Chapter 12. Helpless

PROSE MODE

Melody lurked into the Hatchanova residence. Fabian deserved to rot at the bottom of the deepest trench in the abyss and she wasn't going to stand by while her Mom suffered in silence.

She slipped into the building through a window that had been slightly left unfastened on the second floor. She materialized her wand and swirled it three times in an anticlockwise motion.

She was casting a spell to cancel out the ability of any creature or being who wasn't of fairy origin to sense, see or hear her.

Fabian was not in his room. She checked all the other bedrooms. What ticked her off the most was the fact that she had no idea what she was going to do with him.

He was an immortal. It'll take a considerable amount of spell power to even manage to cripple him.

"Oh, did you miss me?"

Her head bobbed to the voice resonating from the stairway, she sucked in a breath, slowly making it to the end of the hallway.

"That bitch won't be home tonight and I'll get lonely, why don't you come to keep me company?"

Melody wasn't a violent person. Although she'd been through so much hardship, toxic relationships and constant isolation, she clung to the belief that there was still joy in the world. Not just the pain and tangible emptiness she'd felt all her life.

But Fabian had succeeded in pushing her to the edge.

Her adrenaline levels spiked up and she shoved him down the stairs with both hands.

Melody sat stiffly at the edge of her seat.

She was on the last train back to the capital, she pressed her head arduously against the window pane, hot tears pumping out of her red eyes and cascading down her soggy cheeks.

The image of her pushing Fabian was set on endless replay in her head. So what? Yes, she pushed him.

He's not even going to die anyway. The fact that he won't even have a compelling injury annoyed her all the more. At most, it'll just leave a throbbing pain at the base of his spine.

She thrust her head in harder. The pain pulsed through the back of her head, sending shocks down her neck. She hated feeling so helpless. So alone.

She'd once felt like this when Uncle Roger had almost had his way with her. She was dead-asleep when he'd returned intoxicated, reluctantly looking for a fresh blood source to sober him up a bit. Stirring in her seat, her thigh caressed a cold surface. Her phone.

Seth.

"Babe. You're still awake? I've missed you so much."

Seth switched on the lamp at his bedside table. His ringtone had tugged him out of a dreamless sleep. A smile had crawled up his half-asleep face when he read the caller ID. He spoke softly but there was no reply on the other end. Just a muffled sob and vague whispering.

"Mel, are you okay?"

"I-I'll be at the train station in about forty-five minutes."

She had practically forced the words out despite the burning sensation she felt at the back of her throat.

"Could you come pick me up?... Please."

***

It was new year's eve. The station terminals were nearly empty, everyone was at home with their family probably still awake so they could welcome in the new year together.

Seth's eyes kept darting to all the blondes stepping out of the last train of the day.

Shortest chapter I've written so far༎ຶ‿༎ຶ
