Chapter 37. Grow A Pair

The continuous blaring of the territorial alarms do little to snap me out of my bubble of hesitation. Virginia's corpse is still there -- where it was fifteen minutes ago. That was the last time Dante and I uttered a word.

Dante leans against the tree trunk where Virginia was previously held, looking up to the heavens. The torrential rain has washed away the majority of the blood staining his bare arms and face, his black shirt camouflaging the remaining evidence.

What do I say? I know what he wants to hear. Dante Pelosi is waiting for me to throw in the towel. To give up on him and on our relationship. He's making it easy for me to walk away.

"I don't understand you." I finally whisper, which coerces a reaction from him. His golden eyes snap open, surveying me curiously. "I thought I made myself clear." He murmurs, pointing towards Virginia's body. "I'm a monster. A murderer. You can't deny that."
