Chapter 6

Xavier changed a total of one hundred and eighty degrees. Now he has transformed into a 'good boy' who is so friendly and smiling, who never even yells or is rude to the employees in his office.

Dimitri had almost forgotten that this thug used to never hesitate to hurt others, emotional, rude, unruly, and always doing his way, arrogant and the dominant type whose words were always absolute without being refuted.

"If you have no important business, you better go!" said Xavier annoyed as he waved his hand as a sign to drive Dimitri away. "For God's sake! I'm not in the mood to reply to your ramblings."

Xavier is still grumpy. But Dimitri responded casually.

That rude attitude didn't necessarily make the smile fade on Dimitri's face. He sat in the empty chair in front of the table, not at all bothered by the many things strewn around him.

"Did you just hit the jackpot?" Xavier asked curtly when he realized his cousin's smiling face. "You smile like crazy."

For a moment Xavier forgot his worries about Rachel when he realized his cousin Dimitri looked so happy.

"My love story is starting to move," Dimitri said with a wide grin.

Ah, that's what it looks like. Xavier knows more or less, that for the past two years his cousin has been eyeing a woman.

Xavier never found out who the woman was because Dimitri kept it a secret from him.

Dimitri once said Xavier is sometimes like a curse. Every woman he was after and introduced to him, always ended up aground because, in the end, the woman fell for Xavier's charm.

Therefore, for this special woman, Dimitri never told her, let alone introduced her to Xavier.

"You're lucky. Not like me, bad luck."

Dimitri's eyebrows shot up high. "Nathalie?"

"Of course not her." Xavier's face turned flat. "You know well what kind of relationship I have with that woman."

Nathalie is Xavier's future wife. A beautiful model on the rise. The perfect and ideal woman, soft-spoken, kind, and polite.

Dimitri understands Xavier's current situation, but marriage plans are in sight. Xavier can't just leave Nathalie for a woman who maybe he just met.

Marriage isn't only about two people united in a sacred bond, but there are two families united in it. Therefore, the relationship towards marriage certainly cannot be underestimated.

"X, I want to give you some advice." Dimitri's expression turned serious.

"Next month you will marry Nathalie. Any woman who can mess up your heart and mind like this, I think, it's too late to change your mind. You can't possibly cancel your wedding which is in sight, grandpa could have a heart attack If it happens."

"To hell with marriage! I don't care." Xavier's expression looked frustrated.

"X ...."

"I don't care, Dim."

Then the cell phone in his pocket rang. Xavier lazily reached for the flat object, then threw it on the table when he saw Nathalie's name printed on the screen of his cellphone.

"What a coincidence," joked Dimitri as he glanced at Xavier's cell phone, which didn't stop vibrating.

Xavier just let it go, not intending to just pick it up. But the phone still didn't stop ringing and vibrating.

Dimitri glanced at Xavier and the phone in turn. Nathalie doesn't seem to give up either, because it looks like the phone won't stop ringing as long as Xavier doesn't pick it up.

Xavier rubbed his face roughly, then finally picked up the call.

"What's calling me?" said Xavier without the slightest small talk to the future wife.

Rachel got off the taxi she was riding after arriving in the yard.

Her slender fingers stretched out to push the iron gate until it made a fairly loud sound because it was old and rusty.

Rachel immediately went into the room, then threw her bag and sat on the bed.

For a long time, she thought about the big event that happened today, namely her meeting with Xavier.

Her two hands squeezed the sheet tightly, and once again she felt a burning sensation in her chest.

"Mr. Alexandre is back in Germany because he wants to get married next month."

The words of one of her office mates replayed in her mind.

Rachel let her tears fall again. If in the past the reason she cried for him almost every night was because of a great longing, then this time her tears had to be wasted again because of the pain that cut her like a sharp knife.

"How can you say you're still the same Xavier when you already have another woman in your life, you bastard!"

Tears were rolling down her cheeks. Her heart screamed to voice how painful it was when someone she had loved all this time, was nothing more than a jerk who she didn't deserve to wait for.

The ten years Rachel spent waiting for Xavier was in vain. Indeed, waiting for the uncertain one often leads to disappointment.

Rachel laughed at her stupidity. Feeling just slapped by reality.

How is it possible, that losing contact with a partner does necessarily make the man aloof for up to ten years?

Maybe she can do it, but not necessarily with Xavier.

Moreover, he is a Xavier Alexandre. A young executive with the sparkling success that makes women line up and even scramble to become his life partner.

"You think everything will stay the same?" Rachel rubbed her wet cheek roughly. "No. Nothing will ever be the same again."

There was anger and disappointment in Rachel's eyes. The woman got up, then opened the cupboard door and took something from there.

With wide steps, she came out of the room holding tightly the lighter that she had taken, and the old hat which was the only object full of memories and very valuable, that Xavier left for her.

Arriving in the backyard, she lifted the hat into the air. Rachel's hands trembled as she brought the lighter closer to her historic hat with Xavier. Flames shone in her eyes as soon as she brought the lighter closer.

'Anyway, I promise to be a good boy now. Diligently study seriously, so that you can graduate quickly and continue to work. Let me quickly marry you, baby.'

Rachel laughed while keep crying. Still, remember how easily Xavier make a promise to marry her as soon as he graduated from college and started working.

The reality? It's all nothing more than bullshit.

It's true, what can be held from a man is proof, not just a promise.

"Everything you say is bullshit," she hissed sharply. "You're just like this hat now, nothing more than trash."

With great disappointment in her heart, she directs the fire to touch and begins to burn the hat of a million memories with Xavier.

She took the hat off as the fire started to devour little by little until it fell into the trash can. Without regret, she let the object until it was almost used up and turned into dust.

Just leave it. Let the hat burn and perish, hoping that the feeling in her heart will go away without a trace along with all the memories that have made it hard for her to forget him.

"I hope you are happy with whoever's your choice, X."

Rachel stared blankly at the remaining pieces of the hat.

"And from now on, everything changes," she muttered, then she shook her head slowly. "There is only me and you, no more us."
