Mortal Soul

Inna is a woman who had a mission. To kill the gods, that was her mission. She had spent the last millenia trying to accomplish this task. Inna is no typical moral, no. She's directly connected to the void. A void-child, if you will. Not many know what that means, but those who do, well, they're scared. Ever wonder what happens when one does accomplish their goal? Because Inna did. She killed almost all of the gods that had somehow pissed her off. She had expected the multiverse to implode, or maybe for everything to stop. Clearly, it didn't. What happens when an adventure ends, and the evil gods are dead? Well, Inna sure as hell doesn't know. Update: 1/7/2023-Writing schedule is chaotic, because work sucks. I also don't know in which direction this novel will entirely go, so it may come across more like a slice of life, though there may be a bit more action scenes than one normally has in those types of stories. PSA: there are large LGBTQ themes in this book, and will run throughout the whole book. If that angers you, then read something else. *Cover is not mine, say something if you want it removed.*

What are you talking about?

Inna's eyes fluttered open, and sitting there on what seemed to be an invisible chair was the hovering form of Persephone. She was reading a newspaper of some kind.

"My my my, The Great Eldritch One sleeps. If I told anyone that, they would never believe me."

Inna snorted and got up from her bed. She was uncaring as Persephone emitted a loud shriek. Inna was only wearing her undergarments. Persephone covered her eyes as Inna instantly summoned her clothes.

Inna chuckled softly. She enjoyed toying with the angel of love. Previously Cupid had the title but, after Inna helped unseat him, it became Persephone's title.

"So, what do you have for me, Persephone?" Inna was slightly curious as to how she returned so quickly.

Persephone pulled the bag off her shoulder and tossed it onto the bed. "Everything you asked for is right there. As for the information.... I'll shadow you today and answer all your questions. That'll suffice, yes?"

Inna smiled "Of course, that's more than enough." Inna paused as shadowy hands grasped for the bag and drug it into the shadows. "How did you get all of this so quickly, anyways?"

Persephone shrugged in response as she stood up. "I have my ways. None of which will lead back to you. No cause for concern."

Inna nodded. "Put your wings away. You don't need to shadow me, just change your outfit to fit the Era and walk with me."

Persephone was confused, but she did as she was asked. When she was finished dressing down, Persephone was dressed in a flowing white robe with gold accents. A flower crown sat atop her head, and a bow was strapped to her back. Inna recognized it as Cupid's bow, but she knew it was hidden from mortal sight.

In contrast, Inna was in a pair of dark blue holey jeans with a pair of fishnet leggings beneath. She wore a sports bra under a mesh see-through shirt alongside her signature black sunglasses.

Inna smiled. "There. We look much better; let's get going."

As they exited the room, Ember was sitting in the main room drinking something that smelled sweet. She was inwardly surprised to find the new guest.

Inna nodded in her direction and headed on her way. Inna was the first to ask her a question. "So, what happened to Cupid?"

"Oh, he was given over to Luci for punishment. That would not have been an easy task without you." She said flatly.

Inna looked thoughtful. "No, I suppose it would not have been easy. Taking titles from Angels is as difficult as killing a god." She chuckled softly.

Persephone nodded. "Yes. I was glad to recieve your suggestion about an alliance. Though, I wasn't certain I could trust you."

"Ah, I wanted to pay you back for the Tower of Babel incident...and the ordeal with Lust.." Inna seemed a bit embarrassed.

Persephone chuckled softly. "Yes, well, this favor will make us even in my eyes."

Inna nodded. "How is Lucifer these days?"

"Oh, he's doing pretty good lately. He's more than happy to punish the souls that "God" asked him to. Honestly, he's the best Angel for the job" Persephone's eyes seemed to look upwards unconsciously.

"Ah, "God" it's kind of strange for a higher being to just call itself "God" as if that's his name, despite multiple pantheons existing, and other gods visint him, but hey, who am I to judge." Inna chuckled softly.

The two of them continued walking and calmly chatting with each other, almost as if they were old friends. Such was the nature of immortals.

.....

You see, within the higher plane, each pantheon or religion has it's own space it occupies. Heaven/Hell are not generic terms. For instance, the Greek pantheon would have Erebus, and Olympus, Christian pantheon would have Heaven and Hell etc.

There does exist a neutral space for unaffiliated angels, self created gods, friendly eldritch entities, etc. It was previously considered a place of unimaginable chaos, a world of it's own, but it has since become a haven for almost anyone looking for refuge.

There is also the opposite, a neutral space of Hell. This iteration does not house souls, instead they are automatically cleansed and placed back in the cirlce of life: reincarnation.

Instead, Neutral Hell houses evil unaligned gods, Titans, Eldritch Entities deemed calamitous, and the Sins. The Sins are various ancient and nigh immortal demons who run the neutral Hell. Previously they were believed to be immortal entities, but that was disproven when Inna killed and absorbed Lust.

Gods can be killed, and so there must be a place for them to go upon death: The Void. It is a place where higher entities reside, sleeping eternally. Getting there is almost impossible for higher beings. Only one being has free access to the realm, and that's Inna. No one else has ever been there, or if they have, they haven't returned.

There are a myriad of different realms outside the higher plane. They surround and mirror the mortal plane. To name a few, there's Eilheim: Land of the Elves, The Dreamscape: Land of Omnipresent dreams and The Graveyard: Land of the Waking Dead, etc. These realms are many in number, and some continue to be created out of necessity.

.....

Persephone looked at Inna who hadn't asked very many difficult questions yet. She had mainly asked about old acquaintances, former friends etc.

Inna had learned a lot from her chats with Persephone. She knew that her former reign of terror against the gods had left an impact on them, and that they would either avoid her at all costs, or try to eliminate her. She had been asking about acquaintances because she was curious, nothing more. She had a whole day to ask Persephone about things; 'so why rush' was what she thought.

So far, Inna had learned that Lucifer was still going strong in his job, Lust was dead and the other Sins didn't seem to mind at all, as they greedily took his holdings following his demise. She learned that Xaliel (Pronounced: Zal-EEL), the exiled king, had left NH (Neutral Heaven) to return to his home, Neilsa (Pronounced: Niel-sa): Realm of the City of Nephilim. Her old friend Morgana, Goddess of Magic had become a prominent figure in NH politics. Perhaps worst of all, she learned that the governing body of NH had repossessed her home.

Persephone abruptly cut off Inna's thoughts by saying something that shocked her. "Oh, and the Eternity was looking for you recently, said he had something you asked him for awhile back. I don't know where he is now though." She took a sip of her mediocre soda.

A bright smile flashed across Inna's face before she quickly masked it with her typical nonchalance. "Oh? Thank you for the heads up."

"Mhmm. No problem. So what is it you want to do for the rest of the day?"

"Just check this campus out for now. I'll decide on my next course of action tonight." Inna stood up and began heading on her way.

She soon arrived at a classroom that had the words "Monster Taming" on a sign above the door. She smirked as she reminisced on a friend she once had. Her name was Yulierre and she was obsessed with taming monstrous cats.

A commotion in the room awoke her from her pleasant memories. When she peaked inside, she burst out laughing. Ember was chasing a small black cat around the classroom. It was leading her under desks, over chairs. Inna laughed even harder when the cat knocked over a beaker of liquid and spilled it on her. When the laughing subsided, she calmly approached and picked the cat up, calmly putting him back in the cage.

"I'll take this class. Where's the sign up sheet?" She said with a brightness and smile that did not match her usual tone. She was passed the sign up sheet, signed it and left.

Persephone looked over at Inna as they were leaving and said in a warm tone. "You look more radiant when you laugh and smile. It suits you."

Inna choked on air for a moment. "Perhaps, but I'm no God."

"Heyy!! Wait up." It was Ember calling out to them and Inna turned and waited for her to catch up.

"Sorry Ember, Didn't realize you wanted to follow us."

"No-No, it's fine I should've said something. What are you two up to, and who's this?" She motioned with her hand to Persephone.

"Oh, that's Persephone. Persephone, this is Ember." The two did polite greetings before Inna answered her other question.

"We weren't doing much, just wandering around right now. Why, do you have something in mind?"

Ember smirked slightly. "I do, actually, follow me."
