Chapter 53 : Routine

It was the Friday evening when Izuku warped into Rumi's apartment. Looking around using quirk sight, she was still out chasing down some villains who had a storage quirk. She should be getting back soon so Izuku opened the fridge to prepare dinner. Pulling out his ingredients he was going to prepare carrot omelets, roasted carrots and potatoes, and a rare beef steak he was marinating along with some rice. After the raid on Deika City, this had been a routine the two of them came up with. Every weekend Izuku would stay over at her place and make a dinner that contained more than just carrots. The class had been a bit suspicious of his activities outside of UA with light teasing of his possible relationship. Mina was more pushy about it but backed off after not getting a reaction out of him.

Miruko had just gotten out of the police station after booking the mugger and made her way home bounding over buildings. As she got closer to her apartment, the smell of roasting carrots caught her attention. Her eyes widened and she started jumping faster.

'Izu's home?! Right, the weekend!'

Miruko arrived home and took in the smell of tonight's dinner. Walking in she was met with Midoriya with his back turned facing the stove. He turned around to greet Miruko.

"Hey Rumi, welcome back."

Rumi walked up to him and kissed him on the cheek wrapped her hands around his waist and took a look at the food.

"I love you too. Go on and get ready foods about done."

Rumi lets go and disappears into her room with a slight pep in her step. Back in the kitchen, Izuku placed his attention back onto the cooking meal while the table was set using telekinesis.

Rumi walks out of her room in a big t-shirt and some shorts to the table set with a warm and delicious dinner. She sits down at the table as Izuku does the same. The two of them clasp their hands together.

"Itedakimasu."

"... So what's the situation with the guy with the storage quirk?"

"He was robbing a jewellery store and ran out while the seller was distracted by a customer."

"Jewellery store? Any reason why the shop attracted you?"

"Very funny, if anyone would be looking into jewellery it should be you."

"What makes you think I haven't?"

This makes Rumi flushes up a bit as she takes another bite of the steak.

"A-anyway what did you do in UA?"

"Training mostly. A few days ago I let the class fight clones of the villains I fought. Not anyone they couldn't beat though."

"Did the class complete their objective?"

"No, they didn't. Their objective was to find my location in a city that was actively destroyed by villains."

"Who did you send after them for that to happen?"

"I didn't send anyone just put people in their way. The strongest which they fought was Chimera."

"Who's Chimera? I don't remember you fighting anyone like him."

"He was one of the villains who wanted to attack Nabu Island. He was the wolfman in the trench coat."

"What's so special about him?"

"His quirk Chimera mutated him into a combination of multiple animals even fictional ones. The form you usually see him in is his base form and already pretty powerful being able to shoot air blasts with a punch."

"You should bring him out to train tomorrow. It has been a while since I fought with anyone else strong other than you."

"You can fight against the quirk but I wouldn't use the clone of him."

"Why not?"

"While double makes clones of people I have measured they come out pretty fragile as a single bone break will make them pop and disintegrate."

"Oh. You should let me fight some of the groups sometimes."

"Sure let's do it tomorrow."

The two of them continued to talk as they ate their dinner. After finishing the two of them washed the dishes together and laid on the couch to see what was on. Flicking through the channels they land back on the movie rerun channel. It was showing the movie coming up which was titled OldBoy. Intrigued by the title they waited for the film to begin.

(A/N : Spoilers for the beginning of OldBoy)

The movie opens with a dark silhouette of a man with the sun behind him holding a piece of cloth while suspenseful music is playing.

"What? What do you want?"

The camera cuts to behind the obscured man showing that he was holding onto the tie of a man clutching a small white dog. The two of them looked like they were on top of a building.

"I... want... to tell... you... my story."

"W-who are you?"

The camera slowly zoomed in on the man's face.

"My... name is-"

The scene cuts to a man sitting on a bench clearly drunk.

"Oh Dae-su"

What follows is a montage of said man causing trouble in the police station in his drunken state. Izuku and Rumi were quite intrigued as this was obviously the obscured man from the beginning dangling someone by their tie.

"What the hell happened to him?"

"Maybe he got involved with some bad people?"

"Maybe."

The montage ended with Dae-su being picked up by what looks like his friend. The friend apologised facing the camera assumably the police. The camera cuts to Dae-su using a payphone speaking to his daughter wishing her a happy birthday and that he was coming home soon. He tells his friend to get on the phone and he picks up telling the daughter that their dad will be coming home soon and a happy birthday. By the time the friend turned around Dae-su was gone as the camera panned up above him and the title card faded in.

"He got kidnapped?"

"Maybe he just wandered off."

After the title it transitions into a small flap at the bottom of the door was opened by a foot as a tray of food was placed down in front of it. Dae-su quickly pulled the tray into the room pushed his head into the opening and began to speak desperately to the person giving him his food. He was asked how long he was supposed to be there but the person didn't speak. Eventually, Dae-su gets angry and grabs onto the leg of the guard before being kicked in the head making him recede back into the room and the flap is closed. The camera cuts to the inside as Dae-su is kicking and screaming to be let out. A narrator began speaking contemplating on if they had told him that he would stay for 15 years would it have been easier or more excruciating to endure?

Izuku and Rumi ruminated on that thought. On one hand, they would have some peace knowing it would end and on the other, every day could be the day you got to leave.

The montage continues showing the conditions Dae-su had to deal with and how he coped with it. Eventually, it got too much for him when he found out that his wife was murdered and that he was the main suspect. He broke a glass and slashed his wrists. His unconscious body was dragged out and he woke up back in the room with his arms bandaged and his hair cut. This told him that he was being watched and he had no easy escape. Time passes as he unenthusiastically bit down on his meal. The same meal he had had for every day he had spent there.

A thought came to Dae-su's head. If he is being kept alive here there must be someone who put him here. So he began to search through his life writing down whoever he may have wronged in the past. After a few years, he started to tattoo tally marks on his arm for every year he was in that room. A few more years pass and one day he gets an extra chopstick with his meal so he gets to work. Slowly scraping against the wall to dig his way out. A new sense of hope was imbued into him as he vowed to find whoever did this to him and find out why they did it. Dae-su drew a man on the wall and started to punch the wall to train his body while he was slowly making his way out. Eventually, Dae-su made a hole to the outside just large enough to fit his hand through. He felt the wind outside as a few raindrops hit his hand. He pulled his hand back and began to frantically lick the raindrops. Suddenly gas flooded the room as Dae-su quickly covered the hole with his bed and laid down on it.

The gas makes him fall asleep and a woman comes into the room and sits beside his bed. Ringing a bell over Dae-su's head she hypnotised him to be in a large field of grass but as he tried to get up he felt like he was being restricted by something. Pushing a bit harder he finds himself in a suitcase on a rooftop. He was now wearing a black suit but his pockets had nothing. Walking around he sees a man holding a small white dog at the edge of the roof in tears. He runs up to the man making him turn around and slip but he is caught by his tie.

The movie continues with Dae-su's discovering the truth behind his imprisonment as Izuku and Rumi are at the edge of their seats wondering what Dae-su did to deserve his torment. By the end of the film Izuku and Rumi were left wondering about the final fate of Dae-su and if he truly was able to forget.

Deciding that was enough for today they then switched the channel to find something a lot more light-hearted. Eventually, they settled on a channel showing how things are made. Some of the episodes were a bit weird as the narration was more comedic than usual but they figured out that the comedic version was a different show with a slightly different title than the normal version called How It's Actually Made.

"They then fall into a sorting chute saying This is my hole it's made for me."

They found the joke immature yet amusing but eventually, it ended and they were back to the show that was showing how things are made. After a few hours, Izuku and Rumi fell asleep on the couch cuddling as usual.
