And oddly enough, no sex in the world was good enough to make him tolerate that. Not even really fantastic sex.

“Do you really want me to think you did that out of the goodness of your own heart?” Edmund said.

“I don’t really care what you think. Are we going to argue about this all day? Because if that’s your plan, tell me now. I’ll brave the sun rather than have to sit and listen to you whinge at me until it sets.”

He saw the argument poised on Edmund’s tongue. It was flattering, in a small way, to know Edmund thought this worthy of a fight. But not even that was worth feeling like the unwanted third wheel.
