Chapter 277: A Gift

It turned out that the Kryptonian's recovery rate was quite impressive.

After a tiring day, Kara got out of bed and went to work the next morning.

Jack personally drove her to the company and didn't leave until he saw Kara enter the elevator.

He was going to look around National City and then go home to make Kara lunch. But an unexpected visitor made him change his plans.

Knock, knock!

While waiting at a traffic light, Jack heard a tapping sound coming from the side. He looked over to see what was going on.

Before he could say anything, the person opened the car door and got in.

"..."

Jack looked at Alex, who was being rude, and then he raised an eyebrow and asked,

"Hey, don't you usually ask before getting into someone else's car?"

Alex glanced at him sideways, chin raised.

"Just drive!"

"Alright, whatever you say, boss."

Jack shrugged helplessly.

What could he do? After all, she was his future sister-in-law, and he had to handle her.

Alex didn't say where she wanted to go; she said nothing at all; she just crossed her arms and looked ahead.

She didn't speak, and Jack didn't bother trying to make conversation. The silence in the car became somewhat weird.

In the end, Alex was the one who broke the silence.

She looked at Jack with anger in her eyes, wanting to say something.

But when she thought about her purpose, she took a deep breath and repressed her anger.

"What's with the changes in my body? What's happening?"

Jack didn't even look at her and casually replied,

"Oh, so that's what you wanted to talk about. Why didn't you say so earlier?"

A slight smile curved Jack's lips, and his eyes couldn't hide the fun, which irritated Alex even more.

"It's just a gene modification serum and not just some advanced technology."

Jack's casual remark left Alex deep in thought.

"A serum that can transform and enhance your cells, turning you from an ordinary human into a Kryptonian. Congratulations, now you can fly."

"That's impossible!"

As an expert in the field of biology, Alex had to say that this wasn't true.

"It's impossible for such a serum to exist. Human genes and cells cannot be artificially changed, let alone transformed into another race. It's not scientifically possible."

"That's why I said technology is a wonderful thing."

Jack glanced at her and smiled mysteriously.

"As for science, how can you be so sure you really understand it? Is Superman enough to explain science?"

Alex couldn't say anything. In fact, Superman was different.

She chose to study biology partly because she wanted to understand how Kryptonians could fly and be invulnerable.

The car fell into silence. Alex sorted out her jumbled thoughts for a while before finally speaking up.

"But why did you do this? Transform me into a Kryptonian? What's your purpose?"

"Purpose?"

Jack raised an eyebrow.

"Don't you like it? You can fly now, jump higher than buildings, withstand bullets, and shoot lasers from your eyes. These are superpowers that ordinary people can only dream of."

"Oh, of course. From now on, you won't have to buy cosmetics anymore. Just bask in the sun, and you'll have eternal youth. It's the dream of many women."

"So, you don't like it?"

Alex didn't respond, just stared at him intently.

"Fine."

Jack sighed and looked ahead, his expression somewhat sad.

"As for my purpose, I hope that after I leave, there will be someone to protect Kara by her side."

"Wait! What did you say? You're leaving?!"

Alex widened her eyes and stared at Jack.

"You just started a relationship with Kara, and now you say you're leaving? She'll be sad!"

She had been watching Kara and naturally knew that she had established a relationship with this man she had known for less than a week.

Even though she didn't want it, Clark and Kara both liked him, so Alex couldn't stop them.

And now, Jack was saying he was going to leave.

As if she had already predicted how sad Kara would be once Jack left, anger flashed in Alex's eyes.

"Not now, can you calm down?"

Jack glanced at her helplessly and continued,

"I also want to stay here and accompany her, but... I can only stay in this universe for three months. When that time comes, I have to leave whether I want to or not."

"Does Kara know?"

Jack glanced at Alex and smiled.

"I'm doing it for Kara, not for you!"

Alex didn't even look at her, rubbing her forehead in frustration.

"Kara has had a difficult life since she was young. She lost her home, her parents, and her only cousin grew up. Finally, she meets a boyfriend, and now he's gonna leave. I've been trying to figure out how to tell her."

Screech!

The car suddenly braked sharply, stopping in the middle of the road.

The cars behind were startled and quickly changed lanes, making a lot of noise with their brakes and angry yelling.

"What's gotten into you?!"

Alex was startled and looked at Jack with confusion, hoping he would explain.

But Jack didn't care about the people in the back. He was deep in thought as he thought about an idea.

If this idea succeeded, Kara should still be happy even if he left.

"You reminded me, Alex."

He looked excited, expressing, "I've got it! I know what Kara needs the most. It might be a bit hard, but it's definitely worth a try."

"What...?"

Alex hadn't realized what Jack meant when the car suddenly sped off again.

At noon, Jack was no longer with Alex, so he made lunch and hurried to the CatCo International Building.

He went up to the top floor without going through security.

As soon as he stepped out of the elevator, he saw Kara chatting with her coworkers while holding a cup of coffee.

As if they had a telepathic connection, Kara looked straight toward the elevator, and when she did, they both looked each other in their eyes.

When Jack walked over, his coworkers moved away to give them room.

They can't deny that the tasty food he had sent before had helped him become famous.

Several people were drawn to the lunch box he was holding.

Kara put her mug down and walked up to him. Before she could say anything, Jack grabbed her in a hug.

"Don't say anything, Kara."

Jack whispered in her ear, "Just let me hold you."

"What's wrong with you?"

There were still coworkers around in the office area, so Kara felt a bit embarrassed.

However, she keenly sensed that Jack seemed to have something on his mind.

"It's nothing. I'm fine, but..."

Jack hesitated for a moment and continued, "Tonight, I want to give you a big gift."

A gift that will make you happy even if I'm gone.
