Chapter 11: White Crane Arts (1)

And so, the two of them didn't waste any more time and headed straight to the first floor of the library, which surprised Mo Fan quite a lot: there, instead of the precedent floor, books weren't present at all, countless scrolls filling the bookshelves instead.

...

"Young boy, what do you think about the Shaolin Fist? It's a martial skill that lets you perform really strong punches and-"

"No"

"Then what about this martial skill then? the Heaven Splitting Whip Kick? It's an evolved version of our sect's base technique Whip Kick and-"

"It's too long for a name"

"This then! the Azure Sword Art! It can make your movements with the sword as sinuous as the clouds! I'm sure you'll love i-"

But once again his martial skill suggestion wasn't to Mo Fan's liking "I was interested in it at the start for a bit, but no"

"Just what is it that you want?!!" Rage overwhelmed the old librarian as all of his suggestions were being just discarded as if they were absolute shit "For Buddha's sake, those are already the strongest Ordinary Middle grade martial skills in the entire library! It's been twenty fucking minutes since you started looking for one! Just be happy with one of those!"

"No, I can't" Mo Fan stopped searching through one of the bookshelve to answer to the old man's deliriums "I can't since it's not possible for me to come here everytime I need a new martial skill. So, I need to choose a martial skill that's a complete fighting style that even uses a weapon other than just hands"

"There aren't such martial skill...so...just..." the librarian Zhu was saying, before something came to his mind. And, without uttering other words, he walked to the last shelf in the row.

It was covered in dust just as the scrolls on it. The old librarian quickly started searched for something as he said "I almost forgot this skill even existed"

"Let me just search it for... a... bit" his hands full of wrinkles navigated trough the dust and those old looking scrolls "There it is!"

He quickly brought something out of the shelf, a book "This should be what you are searching for, a martial skill that includes a hand to hand fighting style as well as a weapon style, right?"

Mo Fan looked at the book in the librarian's hand and couldn't help, but wonder why this was a book and not a scroll like everything else was in that floor. But, he didn't ask librarian Zhu about it and instead made another question "Why is this book full of dust? Did anyone ever bothered to open it?"

"Good question, kid. This book has indeed not been touched for countless of years, but it's not because it's weak, but because it takes too long to master and so disciples usually don't want to spend all of their time just to practice a mere Middle Ordinary martial skill. Well, there's another reason as well, meanigless in my opinon, and that is that this martial skill has been created by a woman"

"A woman? And why should that be a problem? I mean my older sister is several times stronger than me, so I don't see where the problem with women is" Mo Fan said, not understanding the reason of the disdain his sect's mates had towards women. Just twenty years before, the High Heaven Pavilion, the Blood Battle Group and the Storm Manor fought a giant and harsh war just for the inheritance of the Ice Empress! How could have the sect's disciples have changed so much in only twenty years? Would today's disciples not fight for the Inheritance of a Peak Immortal Ascension expert if she was a woman?

"To be clearer, that woman was a mortal with one of the worst body conditions ever seen in history..." the old man began, now having all of Mo Fan's attention since this heard something about a bad physical condition like his .

"And you should know how bad a man with those kind of conditions is treated, just imagine women!" He continued, bringing some memories to Mo Fan's mind.

...

His mother, Shu Xiaoqing, wasn't exactly a commoner, but actually one of the many daughters of the Great Yan Dynasty's emperor, Shu Tao.

Her martial talent was terryfing, she could learn a new martial skill with a single glance. Such genius scared her brothers and sisters of her being appointed by their father as the official heir of the dynasty and so they decided to sent someone to cripple her while she was sleeping as she was just too strong to beat when awoken.

From that day, she had been treated worse than a dog, forced to serve all of her brother and sisters as if she was a slave. When she did something they didn't like, they would straight up beat her violently, causing her body to worsen even more during time as she received more and more beatings.

One day, she escaped from the Great Yan Dynasty, arriving to the Great Han Dynasty. She tried to find a job or just something she could live off, but since she was a weak and mortal woman nobody even gave her a look and just as she was about to kill herself, a man convinced her not too, Mo Fan's father.

And just for this fact, she started loving him and after a couple of months, they gave birth to a beautiful child.

...

"Yes, I have a vivid image of it" Mo Fan said to the old librarian, recalling those events that were passed to him by his mother, who wanted her child to know absolutely everything despite him being three at the time.

"But this woman had a superb talent in martial arts and so she managed to create a martial skill of her own, which includes both hand to hand combat style and spear arts, the White Crane Arts" the old librarian continued to explain as he gave the book to the gold haired kid "Here take it, this should have been what you were looking for, right?"

"Yes, thank you, librarian Zhu!" Mo Fan said from the bottom of his heart, bowing down to the old fart as a sign of gratitude.

...to be continued
