Chapter Four - Meeting Old Faces

Carson

Dropping Sunday back to the doors of the building I offered to walk her to her office but she politely refused and I nodded. "I'll see you back at home I guess." I awkwardly scratched the back of my head and she nodded smiling before turning on her heels and walking into the building smiling and greeting some of her female co workers. She gave a quick look back to smile and a wave before I waved and walked back to my car. Making my way home I made a quick stop to the store to pick up some food for dinner and texted Sunday if she wanted anything specific for dinner and her reply was a simple no but thanks.

I decided not to reply back as there was no need to, what was I supposed to say? "Yeah okay see you at home?" Yeah but no. I laughed at my self pushing the cart up the aisles I picked up some vegetables, Salmon, chicken fillets and other little small bits that we really didn't need.

Making my way to the checkout area I heard an all to well familiar voice. "Carson?"

I turned around to see who it was and to my surprise I was face to face with my ex girlfriend Val. "Valery? What are you doing around this part of town?" I smiled, Valery was my ex from college. It was somewhat of a nightmare.

"Needed to pick up a few certain bits, how have you been keeping?" She smiled pointing to the food and I nodded. "Yeah I've been good, working like always." I chuckled and she smiled that's when her eyes flickered down to my hand. "You- you're married?" She seemed confused and I nodded holding out my left hand for her to stare at the ring. "When?" She asked, I knew Valery like the back of my hand and I knew by looking at her eyes she was trying to hold back the tears. "Three months." I tried to shorten my answers but it wasn't working. Valery blinked a couple times forcing a closed lip smile and laughed a little.

"Congratulations Carson. I hope she makes you happy." Valery spoke quickly before smiling again and walking off, watching her wipe the tears my heart just wanted to go over and hug her, to reassure her like I always used to in College.

Valery and I dated throughout College, we were the popular couple everybody knew about. We were the couple that was always broken up every week, but we managed to stay together till graduation.

My parents met Valery at my Graduation and told me to call if off for good, they didn't like how she dressed or how she talked. They said she had no manners, a bratty attitude and looked like she belongs to a bikers club.

I went against them that year, told them I loved her and that she was the only girl for me, but they wouldn't allow it. Told me if I was to date her I'd be disowned and would make an embarrassment of the family.

Finally I grew tired of fighting with my parents and gave them what they wanted, I broke it off with Valery. Even though my heart was broken my mind said it was the right thing to do.

This is why I'm now married to Sunday, it was an Arranged Marriage with both parents, neither of us wanted this but there was nothing we could do about it. When the day of the wedding rolled around I almost wanted to rip my fathers head off his shoulders for making me go through such a thing.

I had met Sunday once, but it was a brief hello and goodbye as I was late to a work dinner.
