Chapter 33
Clara stare at her before bursting into tears and Laura tried to pacify her to talk but she will not and instead, continue to weep.
Laura stood up and went in to the bathroom then she came back with a wet towel, seeing that her temperature is high she assumed she is not feeling too well and place the towel on her forehead then helped her lay down back comfortably and help her pull off her clothes leaving her with just her underwear then Laura start to wipe her body with another towel slowly.
After that, she took the towel away and returned with some cereal and drugs she found in the drawer and helped her up again then feed her some food. She put the food away when she has eaten a greater part of it and place the drug in front of her but Clara rejected them
"You need to take some drugs so you can be better" Laura said but she still refused
"Will you like to go to the hospital instead" she asked but Clara still refused and held onto her stomach which made Laura looked at her suspiciously
"Are you pregnant?" She asked slowly and Clara nodded positively
"Oh my God!" Laura exclaimed in shocked. She could never imagine that Clara will be pregnant of all people because she never said she has a boyfriend or anyone she is in a relationship with so how come with this pregnancy.
"When?" She queried
"About a month now" she answered weakly
"What about the father?" She questioned and Clara keep silent
"Is he trying to deny the baby?' Laura asked with raised brows
"Laura" Clara called gently and held her hands. Laura nodded for her to go on and she sighed heavily before continuing
"About the father…" She started but stop again sobbing
"Tell me, I will seek justice for you" she said reassuring her.
"I.. am really..sorry" she said again and breakdown into tears which made Laura feel sorry for her. She knows how innocent Clara is and is sure some jerk must have taken advantage of her.
"It's Avan" she dropped the bombshell but Laura didn't get what she meant
"Avan? Where does he work and who exactly is he?" She press on but Clara shakes her head slowly
"Avan?" She repeated not wanting to believe what she just heard.
"Yes, that Avan" Clara added and Laura slap her hand away then stood up from the bed in disbelief
"That's not possible" she said shaking her head and trying to imagine Avan with Clara.
There is nothing that seems suspicious about the two of them and they never talk to each other much when they are together but Laura knows that Avan is not to be trusted even though she trusts Clara
"Did he force you?" She asked but Clara shakes her head to tell her no.
"How long has this been going on?" She asked her voice a bit shaky
"He bought me to the company" she told her and Laura felt scattered.
Her words make her head dizzy as she tries to fathom her head around the truth that has just been revealed to her and then she feels greatly disappointed.
"Laura, am very sorry. I never meant to hurt you but can you please leave Avan, he is trying to break up with me because of you" Clara said and Laura looked at her with scorn
"What?"
"I don't want to have fatherless child" Clara said again and Laura felt like slapping the hell out of her but controlled her anger remembering that she is pregnant and still sick.
Laura walk out of the room and pick up her bag which she dropped in an hurry to attend to her then left the house angrily. She went to her car and zoom off speedily.
Laura continue to drive home not minding that she is going a little bit over the normal speed and Clara's words replayed in her head.
"No wonder her password is Avan's birthday, ex boyfriend my foot" Laura thought and smirked.
If the both of them has been together since the time Clara start working with her and she never noticed then she has been a big fool all along.
Tears roller down her eyes and Laura wipe it away angrily, she was such a big fool. All Clara told her about her relationship is an ex who she really loves and she never imagined that it's the same person she was in a relationship with, she trust Clara
She thought back on some things and is still in disbelief about it. How could Clara of all people and to say that she trusted her and let her in on a lot of things in the company, the both of them must have had a good laugh behind her mocking her for her stupidity.
Laura's phone start to ring and she picked it up without checking to see who it is.
"Yes" she said trying to not show that she is crying
"What's wrong?" Chris asked, he could figure out that there is something wrong with her voice in an instant.
"Chris? Am not fine" she blurted out to him and sniffed
"Where are you?" Chris asked worried
"Am almost home" she told him and he promised to meet her home immediately then hang up the call
Laura soon pull up at the house and as she entered the house, Chris also entered and she ran to him immediately looking like a child that has been cheated out of her candy. Chris hugged her and pat her calmly wondering what could have upset her so much
"Who upset you my dear wife?" He questioned and cleaned her face then kissed the tears off her face.
"Clar.. Clara is pregnant with his child" she told him
"Oh!" Chris let out.
He has thought of how to tell her about the both of them in a way that it wouldn't hurt her much but couldn't not when she trusts Clara so much and he assumed it will be better to keep it from her since she would find out about it on her own but didn't except she will get to know about it like this
"How did you know that? Did he tell you?" He questioned further
"No Clara did" she answered and Chris held her more closely.
"Am sorry" he could only say that because he doesn't know what to say to her
"You are with me now okay, so no need to cry. You were just too kind" he said
"That's all you are going to say" she shouted at him more annoyed
"You are crying over your ex to your husband" Chris pointed out.
"Seriously? Are you saying that to me right now" she said and push him away from her
"Am sorry, what will you like me to do to him? Should I wreck his company or Beat him up?" He said and pull her back into his arms
"That's better" she mouthed and hugged him back. They remained like that for a minute then Laura thought of something and pull out of the hug
"Why didn't you sound sound surprised when I told you Clara is pregnant with Avan's child" she asked suddenly realized that he wasn't in the slight bit surprised at all
"What do you mean?"
"Instead of being surprised or asking me what I mean you asked if Avan told me or not" she said and Chris hesitated to talk
"I didn't know how to tell you" he responded in a low voice
"So you knew about it" she said disappointed written all over face and she fling his hands away from her
"I can't believe you" she said and walk out of the door while Chris ran after her to stop her
"I wanted to tell you but you will not believe me without proof" he tried to defend but Laura wasn't listening and got into her car angrily then zoom off again.
"Wait.." Chris said and also got into his car to follow her.
