Chapter 24
Laura woke up feeling very weak and tired, she has been overworking herself and coupled with yesterday she feels very tired.
She tried to look for her phone on the bed and check the time but the door opened and Avan came in with a cup of coffee and some toast
"how are you here?" Laura asked surprised to see him and wanted to stand up but he quickly dropped the tray and stopped her
"You shouldn't stress yourself" he said so sweetly that Laura couldn't believe her ears.
Throughout their whole years together he never did something like this, he is always away and most times when she is sick Miss Steven is the only one who takes care of her.
"what?" Avan smiled and handed the coffee to her then place some toast in her hand
"I told you am going to be a better person to you now" he said seeing her unimpressed look and Laura smiled instead then start to munch slowly, if he had done something like this for her in the past, she should be touched but now she feels nothing of such
"when did you get here?" she queried as she eat
"Last night, your housekeeper called me, I figured it must be something serious because you don't let anyone inside here" he answered and gave her a napkin
"Hum mm I see"
"Am glad she called me and not Chris, at least there is someone that acknowledge our long time relationship" Laura raised her eyes at him lowly and dropped the cup in her hand
"How lucky you are then, to be the first person to come here" she said jokingly
"Also I called Clara to inform her already that you wouldn't be coming to the company today"
"Oh! About that, I plan to call her to take care of things for me" she said wanting to stand up to look for her phone and Avan bought out her phone from his pocket and gave it to her
"Thanks" she said before typing to message Clara
"You seems to want to monitor this yourself, why are you not doing that anymore?"
"Because its no more necessary" she answered still concentrating on her phone
"You don't want to see him? Isn't that the reason why you were like that yesterday" Avan stare deeply at her as he wait for her reply, he really hope that it wasn't the reason why or what he actually fear is already happening, Laura is the type to fall for a man easily
"No, I just received a bad news yesterday" she lied and dropped her phone then lie down again
"You should go quick, I will get some more rest"
"Okay then, I will come back when am done tonight" he said then picked the tray and stood up to leave
"Ah! That reminds me, he called you last night and I picked it up. I hope you don't mind?" Laura stood up sharply hearing his words, she scratch her neck slowly and tried to put on a clear face
"What did he say?"
"Nothing, I told him it's me and he hang up" Avan answered
"Oh!" she mouthed and lie down back. Avan left and closed the door gently behind him
"What were you excepting?" Laura thought to herself and covered her head, she feels sorry for herself.
How could she allow herself to get attached to him so quickly? And to think that he doesn't care after acting like that with her.
The feelings she is having right now feels different from what she felt for Avan at least then, Avan liked her first although she doesn't feel anything for him anymore…
…Avan dropped the dishes and cleaned it up then arranged everything and came out of the kitchen, he picked his suit which he left on the chair last night and went out of the house.
As he entered his car to start it, he paused to check a message he just received from Clara
"did something work out?" the message read but he ignore it.
When he received her nanny's message last night, he was having a blast with his friends but for some reasons he felt bothered about how she left during their lunch together and decide to go there because he knew that for her to let him into sunflower house then something is definitely wrong
When he arrived, the security guard let him in for the first time and it wasn't that hard finding Laura's room because he could see the door designed with her favourite color and he entered
She wasn't looking very okay and he had to nurse her all night, she held onto him and cried in his arms that he felt himself developing a soft spot for her, a feeling he never had before or maybe its just because its the first time he will see her crying like that but then when Chris called her number he felt jealous
When he picked the call, he acted like Laura is in a room with him and she is in the shower so Chris hang up the call but he didn't tell Laura the truth, he feels somehow afraid that she might really be falling for him..
A call from Clara bought him out of his thought and picked up the call
"When are you getting here? Mr Chris is here" she yelled at him
"Am on my way" he responded before hanging up and drove away to the company

Chris was a quite surprised when Clara told him Laura wont be coming for the meeting, he couldn't sleep last night after hearing those words from Avan.
He wanted to call back but afraid of what he will hear if he do, how can she be with her ex-boyfriend all alone at night in a room? He wanted to get an explanation from her and that's why he had waited till now but he was disappointed that she is not coming but when he heard that Avan will be there he felt relieved at least that means they were not together
He waited for about thirty minutes before Avan arrived with his members and everyone settled down, one of them from Mime stood up to start the presentation
"Before we start, can I ask what an outsider is doing here?" Avan said referring to Chris, having him there wont affect their plans
"Am here on behalf of Laura"
"But she already let Clara handle things instead so why don't you leave"
"That is not for you to decide" he retorted
"Of course I can decide that, she made the call right in my presence, we slept together last night you see" he said provocatively, Chris looked at him not beliving his words but remembering last night it couldn't be a lie
"So what? We had an agreement and am to take care of some business deals including that of your company" he insisted and Avan shrugged. He only wanted to provoke him but he didn't catch the bait
"Mr Chris, Mime has been our business partner for ages and we don't normally do this before renewing contracts with them so…" Clara was saying but he interrupted
"So you are saying we should just sign another contract when the ones from before have all been forged?"
"Forged? What do you mean?" Clara asked tensed, there is no way he will figure that out easily
"I have revised all the contract agreement from before till the last one and I must say the person in charge really did a good job of forging things. The contract given to the company is totally different from the one signed and the reports documents on it is not even adding up at all"
"Do you give him those?" Avan turned to Clara questioningly and she shook her head no
"I gave them to Miss Laura because she never read them" she explained
"Of course, she didn't give them to me herself but I figured out that its not possible for you to pull this off by yourself without help from someone in the company with an easy access to the company's files and the only person that could be is Miss Clara here" Chris said exposing them more.
He really wanted to discuss things with Laura first before telling it to their face but he felt really pissed off by her, he has been busy dealing with things for her and all she does is sleep with her ex-boyfriend. She even allows him pick her phone
"Chris, I think you are mistaken about something here but…"
"President Chris, we are not familiar with each other now are we?" Chris corrected and shut him up then place some documents on the table
"the both of you pretend to have signed a contract after showing Laura a fake document and then make her sign the document of your choice that will make you have access to the materials for making products which you use to your advantage and get the gain for yourselves giving back little to her to act like you are really doing something but of course you were not caught because you only do your business within one branch where you won't be suspected" Chris stood up seeing that the both of them couldn't say anything to defend themselves anymore.
He went towards the laptop that is to be used for the presentation and insert a small flash drive in it then click on a document to show all the evidence of the document forgery
"Not only this but you are even trying buy shares through paper company, also you have a little amount of shares under someone else's name, what should we think of this?"
"Have you been sneaking up on me!" Avan suddenly yelled banging the table angrily
"Are you trying to pull me under?"
"No, but one thing is for sure, and that is we won't be doing any business with your company again and also Miss Clara, I guess you have some explanations to make to your employer" he declared
"I will presume this is the end of today's meeting" he concluded and left the room furious, he wanted to keep everything a secret and find out if he can get more dirty things on him but he just burst out and say everything there is, although one thing is for sure and that is he doesn't love Laura at all
