Ch 20: Kakashi's Luck

(The Ordinary Ninja ch20)

"Sir, we encountered the Copy Cat ninja, what should we do?" Asked one of the bounty ninjas whom Mamoru "kindly" asked to join his little game of hunting.

"Kakashi of the Sharingan? Why are you still alive, then?" I asked the ninja, who was carrying two swords on his back. He was "Fang," a bounty ninja who was unfortunately weaker than me.

'Well, that's what he thinks,' I nearly couldn't hold in my laughter.

It was true that I was better than him in kenjutsu. With an average talent in kenjutsu, I had to make a lot of painful mistakes during my learning journey, and as they say: in order to learn, you must first make mistakes. The countless mistakes I made, and the countless improvements I made thanks to those mistakes made my kenjutsu style extremely stable.

'However, what he doesn't know is that I will lose to him if we ever fight seriously.'

Fang had incredible stamina, and in order to make him work under me, I had to completely stomp over his pride.

'And his pride happens to be his kenjutsu.'

I was doubtful at first whether or not to let such a powerful ninja beside me, but life is all about taking risks.

"Sir," Fang began, his blue eyes shining through the mask he was wearing. The mask was in the shape of a wolf, fitting for his code name.

"The Copy Ninja wasn't looking for a fight and after I gave him all the information he needed, he left," Fang explained, but for some reason, I felt something wrong with that sentence.

'Is he lying?'

I frowned. Even though my mask covered every inch of my face apart from my eyes, Fang seemed to sense my frown.

"Sir, this is the proof of my encounter with the Copy Ninja," Fang took out the corpse of a dog from a scroll. The dog had Konoha's forehead protector wrapped around its neck, and it was wearing the signature blue vest that all of Kakashi's ninja dogs had.

I recognized that dog, it's name was Shiba.

"And this contains the information I shared to the Copy Ninja, please take a look," Fang said, bowing as he handed over to me a small scroll.

'I don't sense any lies.'

As a support ninja, I had to have good chakra sensing abilities, and I can sense lies using the technique. It wasn't perfect because a ninja can evade it by distorting their chakra flow, but it worked just fine for now.

'Fang is as relaxed as he can be right now, there's no way for him to lie.'

Meanwhile, I looked at the person behind Fang. It was a person with a similar attire to Red Blade, the bounty ninja I killed yesterday, except the color of his clothes are gray.

'Red Blade's partner, Grey Wind. Like the former, he's a cannon fodder.'

Red Blade chose his code name because of his technique that envelops his weapons in fire-affinity chakra, making them turn red depending on the chakra intensity. On the other hand, Grey Wind chose his code name because he had a technique that creates a haze on a certain area using the wind nature transformation.

If Fang was like a still pond, then Grey Wind was like a buzzing fly. He was kneeling on the ground, but he was fidgeting so much that he might as well dance.

'Heh, he wants to kill me.'

With how much malice was radiating from his body, I would cut my tongue if Grey Wind didn't wish to end my life.

Thinking nothing of it, I opened the scroll that Fang gave to me. Grey Wind didn't matter to me aside from being a meat shield to throw at the "Evil Spirit" after we find him.

"So," I chuckled after seeing the scroll's contents. "Basically, you told Kakashi that the 'Evil Spirit' was roaming nearby? Why, what's the point?"

'Surely Kakashi Hatake won't fall for that bullshit, right?'

.

.

.

"Roaming around my ass," Kakashi muttered under his breath.

He was forced to make a tough choice because Fang made a dirty move.

"Threatening my ninja dogs like that… sigh," Kakashi rubbed his forehead.

'Shiba was killed, but thankfully, I managed to save the other dogs at the price of letting that bounty hunter go,' Kakashi lamented with a dark look.

"Well, well, well. If it isn't Kakashi-san."

FOOSH!

After throwing a kunai with an explosive tag at the origin of the voice, Kakashi jumped back to avoid the explosion.

'He escaped,' Kakashi frowned after sensing no one inside the explosion.

"Show yourself!"
