Ch 21: Mangekyou Sharingan

(The Ordinary Ninja ch21)

"It's been a while, Kakashi-san," the person hidden in the shadows said as he walked out. His long hair was hidden inside his cloak, and his eyes glow a crimson red.

"Itachi," Kakashi narrowed his eyes. "What are you doing here?"

"I was hired by a client to kill you," Itachi bluntly said, but as soon as he finished talking, eight shurikens were already in his hands and aimed at Kakashi, who was lifting his forehead protector.

"Well then, let me show you the force behind Konoha's Copy Ninja," Kakashi frowned as he talked, and after seeing the shuriken in Itachi's hands, he didn't delay and threw a few of his own shuriken.

Itachi did the same, and soon after, all of the shuriken they threw fell on the ground.

'Itachi is known for his shuriken jutsu, fire-release ninjutsu, and most importantly,' Kakashi blinked as he was about to look into Itachi's eyes.

'His genjutsu is his deadliest weapon.'

"Lightning Release: Lightning Hounds!" Kakashi yelled out, forming a few hand seals instantly and releasing bolts of lightning from his palm. The bolts of lightning turned into hounds that went after Itachi, but Itachi remained unfazed.

"Quite impressive," Itachi said, and as the lightning hounds bit his neck and limbs, Kakashi sighed. "Explode," Kakashi lazily said.

"It seems you already know," Itachi said, amused as he placed his back against Kakashi's back.

"Yes, but it's a waste to not complete the ninjutsu," Kakashi replied… However, the one who spoke wasn't "Kakashi" who was standing back to back with Itachi, but rather Kakashi who was standing on a thick tree branch above Itachi.

"As expected from Kakashi-san," Itachi praised flatly.

"I don't want to hear that from you," Kakashi scoffed, seeing what happened to the shadow clone who became victim to Itachi's genjutsu.

'The clone tried everything it knew to break out, but nothing worked. Not even after using the Sharingan. I should be more careful, thankfully I chose not to look into Itachi's eyes just then.'

"It doesn't matter, you will still die today, Kakashi of the Sharingan," Itachi said, taking Kakashi by surprise as he manifested behind the shocked, silver haired ninja.

"How?!"

'I couldn't sense him, even the Sharingan failed me!"

Kakashi was about to retaliate, but a sword was already piercing his stomach.

"That sword… wasn't it Mamoru's sword?" Kakashi coughed up blood.

"Yes, yes it is," Itachi nodded, not once sparing a glance at the sword as he eyed any sort of deceit in Kakashi.

"Why… do you have it?" Kakashi couldn't help but be disappointed. Not of Mamoru, but of Itachi. He thought that the two wouldn't separate after turning rogue because they were sworn brothers, but he was wrong if his guess was correct.

'Greed is a human's first emotion, maybe that's true,' Kakashi sighed. Naturally, he knew how the Sharingan gets stronger, and he guessed that Itachi killed Mamoru to become stronger.

"How and why I have it doesn't concern you, Copy Ninja," Itachi spoke in an even tone.

'Huh, not sharing information, then? Whatever, but I've been meaning to ask...'

"Itachi, is the rogue ninja, Evil Spirit, actually Mamoru? Did you hunt him down? Is that why you're here?" Kakashi asked through a fit of bloody coughs.

While tracing down the Evil Spirit's tracks, he found something odd.

'I couldn't find any of the Evil Spirit's tracks, it's like he didn't exist in the first place,' but that was what made Kakashi suspect Mamoru even more.

"I could be 80% wrong about Mamoru, but I still wanted to know if Mamoru is actually—"

"Mamoru is dead. Danzo killed him," Itachi cut off Kakashi and roughly took out the blade from the man's stomach.

"Cough!"

Kakashi coughed up blood, but there was a smirk on his face.

"I understand now why you have Mamoru's sword… I'm...," Kakashi couldn't finish his sentence before he passed out on the ground.

'I'm proud of you for not abandoning your friends,' was Kakashi's last thought.

"No, you don't," Itachi said, looking up at the blue sky. "You don't understand anything at all," Itachi sighed. Truth be told, unless Kakashi had the Mangekyou Sharingan, he was no match for Itachi's genjutsu, the Tsukoyomi.

As the world crumbled like a broken glass vase, Itachi looked at Kakashi who was passed out on the ground.

"Too bad, you don't have eyes like mine," Itachi closed his eyes, deactivating his Mangekyou Sharingan. "If you did, this battle wouldn't have ended before it began," Itachi said before walking away.

After all, a non-Uchiha couldn't possibly awaken the Mangekyou Sharingan, right?
