3. New Face, New Idendity

"You look better." Alexander removed the cigarette from his mouth and began to speak.

"What are the mission details?" Paul seemed impatient.

"Listen carefully." Alexander stood up from his chair. After throwing the cigarette butt on the ground, he began to explain the details.

"Before I tell you the details of the mission, there are things I need to say. Paul, everyone will think you're dead. No one will know you're alive. We will handle everything related to this matter. You have only one thing to do. We will change your face." Alexander was looking at Paul with an inquisitive gaze. He seemed confident Paul would agree.

"What? A face transplant?" Paul wasn't expecting such a thing.

"Not a face transplant, more like cosmetic surgery. Don't worry, you'll still be as handsome as before. There won't be major changes to your face. Just a little alteration." Alexander opened the file in his hand and began to read.

"I refuse." Paul had agreed before, but now he was hesitant to continue with the missions.

"Wait. Wait. Think it over a bit more. You are the best man for this job. I know this because I trained you. Please, think again." Alexander was trying to convince him. "Paul, we need to maintain order in our country."

"Details?" Paul wanted to learn the details to make a decision.

"I told you, everything is very secret. If you don't accept, I can't tell you." Alexander wasn't disclosing the details.

"Okay, I accept, but I have conditions. My family's safety must be ensured. Half of the payment for this job will be deposited into my family's bank account." Paul would leave if his conditions were not accepted.

"Don't worry, your family will be under the protection of our state. After you die, the money will be delivered to them." Alexander handed the file to Paul.

"When you say die?" Paul didn't take the file and waited for Alexander to answer.

"You understood correctly, you need to die. Paul Anderson will die, and a new person will be born." Alexander clarified the misunderstanding.

"Okay, will I be able to return to my old life after this mission?" Paul asked the final question on his mind.

"I can't guarantee anything." Alexander was telling the truth. Even the slightest mistake could lead to death.

"Okay, I accept." After thinking for a while, Paul agreed.

"You did the right thing. The military operations you conducted abroad for many years were a test for you. In fact, there were other candidates selected for the mission, but none of them came close to your achievements." Alexander handed the file to Paul.

Paul took the file and began to read. After skimming for a few minutes, he read the important parts.

"You want me to become a gangster?" Paul wasn't expecting such a mission.

"No, we don't want you to be a regular gangster." After a brief pause, he continued. "Your mission is to combat illegal crime organizations. These illegal organizations have strong financial resources behind them. We tried to cut off their funding but failed. They earn the money legally."

After taking a deep breath, he continued to explain.

"In our opinion, if we control these organizations, we can reduce illegal activities here." Alexander was giving Paul time to speak.

"Actually, it makes sense. Even if we eliminate these illegal organizations, new ones will emerge. But if we control these organizations, new ones can't sprout. The organizations will be constrained. Illegal activities can't be eradicated, but we can determine who to commit crimes against. For instance, a fraudster can be defrauded. A thief can be robbed. So, you want me to be Robin Hood." Paul liked this idea.

"Yes, my student, you understood everything correctly. The names in the file I gave you were taken from the CIA. Although these people are very secretive, they are not high-ranking criminals. They are lower-level." Alexander had prepared that file.

"So why is it so hard to get information from within these organizations? It shouldn't be that difficult for you to place a spy." Paul lit a cigarette.

"Do you think it's easy to rise in the underworld? We got an opportunity, and now the name we'll use to seize it is you." Alexander also lit a cigarette.

"So, when do we start?" Paul leaned back in his chair.

"We have about a month. In one month, I will give you the necessary training. You will undergo surgery now. We will start training tomorrow." Alexander opened one of the closed doors inside the warehouse. There were a few people inside. They were wearing doctor's coats.

Paul didn't expect things to develop this quickly. He followed Alexander. Inside, there were most of the things he had seen in a hospital. There were also many different machines he hadn't seen in a hospital.

_______________ Hours later

The doctors had finished the surgery. Paul was still asleep due to the anesthesia.

Alexander entered with a gun in his hand.

The doctors were scared when they saw the gun in Alexander's hand. These doctors were specially brought here. Each had committed serious crimes and had been imprisoned. They all had the common point of being alone. Alexander had specifically chosen them. He had promised each of them freedom.

"We did our job. Now keep your word." Dominic, one of the doctors, wanted to get out of here as soon as possible. He had been in prison for almost 10 years.

"When he wakes up, I will keep my word. I don't want any problems." After speaking, Alexander closed the door.

________________ Hours later

Paul woke up.

After the doctors conducted the check-ups, they found no problems. The surgery had been planned for a long time. Secret government technologies were used. This method of facial transplantation had been applied to a few agents before, so there were no issues.

Dominic went to the closed door and started knocking on it.

About a minute later, the door opened. Alexander entered with his gun. He inspected the surroundings and found nothing amiss. When he looked at Paul, he saw that he was awake.

"He woke up and there are no problems. Now keep your word." Dominic had run out of patience.

"Okay, follow me." Alexander closed the door after all the doctors had exited. He got into the car with the four doctors.

"Where are we going?" Hank, one of the doctors, was afraid of going back to prison.

"Don't worry, I will take you to a suitable place and set you free." Alexander looked outside. They were driving on a forest road.

About 20 minutes later, they arrived at another area. Alexander got out of the car.

"What kind of place is this?" Thomas couldn't find a reason for them to come to such a place.

When everyone got out of the car, Alexander took his gun in hand. He aimed the gun at the doctors and started shooting. When the magazine was empty, all the doctors were lying on the ground, covered in blood.

Alexander went next to them and checked their pulses.

Dominic grabbed the wrist of the hand checking his pulse. "Why?"

"I kept my word. You wanted freedom, and I gave you freedom." Alexander smiled as he stood up. He made sure everyone was dead. After sending the coordinates of their location to another number, he returned to the warehouse.

Paul had still not fully recovered. Alexander brought him clothes.

After the effects of the anesthesia wore off, Paul put on the clothes. He looked in the mirror Alexander had brought. His face was covered in bandages.

Alexander handed him a newspaper.

When Paul looked at the newspaper, he found what he was looking for. 'Captain Paul Anderson dies in a car accident.'

"From now on, your name is Logan Caldwell."

The bandages were changed at intervals for 30 days. During this period, he received the necessary training.
