Chapter 6 I will find him

"She is my wife your highness!"

Well, the story was going as planned. I forced a sigh back and put a straight face while Lee s eyes slightly widened at Jacob. "When did you get married?"

"Yesterday, Your Highness."

He shook his head in disbelief and laughed. "Are you serious? I just saw you yesterday and you didn t say a word."

"I didn t want to bother Your Majesty with my personal matters."

Lee tilted his head as he studied me. "Who is she? Is she someone I know?"

"No, that is not possible Your Majesty. She is an Omega."

One of the elderly men, inhaled sharply. "An Omega? Are you sure she isn't a rogue?"

Jacob forced a smile. "She isn't. We have been together for a year now and I haven t noticed anything of that nature."

"Wonderful! Congratulations, Jacob." Lee smiled and shifted his gaze over to me.

"What's your name?"

"Cathy, Your Highness."

He nodded, stood up from his desk and went over to stand by the fire.

"And how did the two of you meet, Cathy?"

I felt like I was in the middle of a job interview. Why was he so persistently curious?

"I was being chased by a couple of hunters. Jacob was passing by at the time and he saved me just in time. I would be dead if it wasn t for him."

Alpha Lee chuckled. "What a typical love story. Why were you being chased, Cathy?"

I shrugged. "I lived in the forest after I lost my parents due to the war. I spoiled someone s hunt and it didn t make that person very happy."

Lee crossed his arms against his chest and with a raised brow, he asked, "Is that so?"

He continued to look at me with his burning gaze and I shifted uncomfortably in my shoes. Jacob cleared his throat.

"I was hoping you would let her stay here, Your Majesty. I promise she won t be any trouble," Jacob pleaded.

Not removing his eyes from me, Lee asked, "Of course, anything else?"

"A job?" I quickly interjected.

After thinking for a while, he nodded.

"If you wish, you could be my personal maid. Interested?"

"It would be an honor, Your Highness."

A smirk played on his face and he finally looked over to Jacob.

"Take her to the head maid to be trained for her new duties."

"Yes, Your Majesty."

We both bowed and left his office. Walking down the corridor, Jacob let out a sigh and shook his head at me.

"Why did you do that, Cathy?"

"I have to find out more information about my mother, Jacob. What better way than taking a job here in the castle? As a bonus, I will be his personal maid. I wasn t counting on that."

"Just be careful, please. He is dangerous."

I smiled up at him and rubbed the crease between his thick eyebrows. Giggling, I said playfully, "You re going to get wrinkles from worrying so much, husband."

He smiled back. "And whose fault is that, wife?"

"Your own tales." I shrugged a shoulder and he let out a soft, awkward laugh.

* * *

"You are going to be the Alpha's maid?" The man around thirty stopped instructing the servants and gaped at me when I entered the kitchen, heading towards him. The kitchen was bigger than any apartment house in the humans' world. But instead of using gas stoves, the cooks here were making fires in between bricks and soil-made stoves.

The temperature was something really high. I wondered how they survive in such a hot place. It was torture for me already.

Not being concerned enough, with a simple bow, I nodded. "Yeah. My name is Cathy." I would be his assassin soon if he had dared to hide my mother and played the nasty game.

"Did Alpha really choose you?" The man couldn't believe me and the decision his Alpha made. I didn't understand why they were being like this but I wouldn't care.

"He did." I replied bravely, straightening my composure. None should be nervous in front of their foe. It would be ridiculous to be nervous, actually.

"Come with me." The man said and escorted me to the room beside the kitchen. It was the place where I could see only glasses, goblets, bowls, plates, and spoons — all the serving items.

"Let me show you Alpha's stuff." He said, grabbing a ceramic plate and bowl from the cabinet that had beautiful engraved designs on it. "It's his plate and spoons." He took a spoon and placed it over the plate before taking a goblet and glass in his hands. "You must keep yourself reminding this for now since I know, you will soon learn about other stuff."

"Learn about more kitchen stuffs?" I asked, knowing there would be much more duties as a maid.

He shook his head. "No, being the Alpha's personal maid doesn't mean you have to cook or wash his clothes. It's different. I don't want to scare you." He let out a soft chuckle.

I might look like a soft girl, but I wasn't. Inside me, I had built a wall that couldn't be broken at all. "I am not scared. What are the duties?"

The man started saying and I noted. "You have to be with him. You will look after his needs. You will choose the right clothes that suit him for the day. You will inform the cooks of the foods he will be eating and assure that it will satisfy his taste. You need to be concerned about everything — his health and mind."

"It's like being his slave." It was actually the same like being his slave. Handling master's health and mind was never a maid's duty. A maid's duty was always limited to serving.

"Well, it's like that." He had agreed. "And did I tell you when he will be sleeping, you can't leave him alone?"

My eyes widened shortly. "I can't?" To act normal, a person needs a little sleep at least. How could he be so cruel?

"You have to take care of him even if he is asleep."

Clenching my jaw, I almost gasped. "What about my sleep?"

"You can sleep if he orders you to." He sighed, this time was probably concerned about me even though we weren't familiar. This man felt like a gentleman.

"Wow!" My life would be stirring by him, the enemy of mine. "From when should I start?" I cleared my throat, jerking out of my bitter thoughts. I needed to concentrate and be focused on my mission.

"The former maid is here but she is soon to be promoted. So, I think you can start after wearing this." He squatted down and opened the drawer of the cabinet, taking pieces of clothes out of it.

When he handed me the robes, I scanned them carefully. "Is it a frock?" The black robe in my hand looked more like a short round frock. The apron was black, and there was a laced headband, also white tights.

"I am a man. I don't have any idea. But the maid should be wearing this." said the politest man I had seen after leaving the humans' world.

"Alright. Where is the washroom?" I tilted my head. I was sure he won't tell me to change in this room.

"Follow me." He walked down the saltbox beside the castle through a massive hallway. Before taking steps inside, I read the board that implied it as a servant quarter. Kicking the nearest door of the living room open, he looked at me. "It's your room. You are not allowed to live with Jacob until there is no official statement of your wedding."

"Also, don't make him mad. Displeasing him can lead you to something very hazardous." He added. "My name is Harris, by the way."

"I will remember that. Thank you." I faked a smile and bowed once again.

He smiled back and patted my shoulder. "Cathy, after you are done, take the juice to him. He will like mango juice now."

"Where is he right now?" I didn't have any idea about this castle, and about him as well. It would be tough for me to find him in this large place.

Mr. Harris shrugged a shoulder. "No one knows. You have to find that out."

Letting out a soft breath, I stopped myself from arguing. "I will find him. No problem."

"I like your courage." saying this much, he took his leave.
