Chapter 36 : At the pool

While I was chatting with James, I couldn’t help but be distracted by the thoughts of Dave confessing his love to Della. I didn’t know how she was going to handle it, but I knew for sure that she was in love with me and wouldn’t want to be with Dave.
‘I hope this doesn’t break him,’ I thought as I stared into space.
“Cary, are you even listening at all?” James asked as he noticed I hardly responded to anything he said.
“Oh… Yes,” I responded with a feeble smile.
“No, I don’t think so. You’re so distinct,” he pointed out, making me sigh.
“I… I’m just a bit tired. Can we talk about work later? There’s just so much going on in my head,” I answered, and James nodded.
“Sure. I understand. Flying all the way here from Santa Monica. What do you want to do now? Should we go chill by the swimming pool?”
“Sounds good,” I answered, standing up.
