Emily now understood that what had felt like a cold war between them was nothing more than their lukewarm relationship being brought out into the open. She wondered if he was truly angry at her, or was he starting to hate her?

If she didn't act now, the distance between them would surely keep widening.

Upon hearing her question, he finally lifted his gaze from the screen. "Me? Angry at you? What's there to be angry about? Wasn't it you who lied about having a cervical infection when it actually was a miscarriage? First off, I wouldn't want to get entangled with the former in bed, and as for the latter, I would never force you to keep it if you didn't want kids. Both incidences also don't concern me, so I have no reason to be angry at you. If anything, I feel that you think too highly of yourself, Emily dear," his words were scalding and loaded with sarcasm.

Emily didn't raise her head. The dim light obscured her expression but one could see that she had her fists clenched.
