Chapter 39- No Room For Objections

"Good evening young miss", Mr. Tang Yu greeted with a bow.

Delilah looked up at him and smiled "Evening Mr. Tang Yu, how was the trip and has my dad been taking care of himself?" asked Delilah with a serious expression.

Mr. Tang Yu knew the question she wanted him to give account to, he chuckled, "Of course young miss, he wouldn't want to see you cry again", he gave a simple answer

Chen Xiao stared speechlessly at his butler who just sold him out.

"Hm! That's good…", she nodded," Dad what are you doing in D city?" she turned her attention to Chen Xiao.

"Can't I visit my daughter you naughty girl…", he ruffled her hair gently.

Chen Xiao led the way to the dinning room where Old madam Chen sat, eating gracefully and elegantly and yet, nonchalantly.

"Mother…", Chen Xiao bowed so did everyone else.

"Sit! All of you", The Old madam's voice left no room for objection, just to obey the order ONLY!

Comically, the people wasted no time to do as they were ordered, it was at that moment a certain meek voice peered out of the silence,

"… And the dog?" questioned Delilah.

Old madam Chen's eyes narrowed, "On the floor!", she said. Delilah's expression soured, she placed the dog in her arms on the floor unwillingly, and she sat with her back straightened.

"Go wash your hands", Old madam Chen commanded, and her strict face was unweaving.

Delilah stood up and left to wash her hands. A while later, she returned with Rigby trailing behind her and sat beside the nervous Annabelle.

Old madam Chen turned to the newcomer and her stern face softened.

"What is your name young lady?" The Old madam asked with a harmless smile.

"A-Annabelle Ning, ma'am", Anna said as she hurriedly lowered her head that it almost hit the table.

" Annabelle, you have such a beautiful name, and you look like the responsible type unlike my granddaughter here", Old madam Chen said with a chuckle, the tone of her voice was soft and graceful.

Delilah who was stuffing her face halted at being referred to, she glanced at the people for a while, she shrugged and continued to eat.

"Annabelle, what are your parent occupations?", Chen Xiao asked.

Annabelle's face flushed in embarrassment," M-My father is a bus d-driver and my mom trades f-f-fish", She said honestly.

After Annabelle's words was a round of silence, even Delilah who was stuffing her face stopped eating.

Chen Xiao took a long look at Annabelle's flushed face. The truth is, he already knew everything about Annabelle before he met her.

He can't just leave his only child in a place he can't monitor her movements, he knew she'll be coming home today with Annabelle which was why he came along to test if Annabelle was true or fake and so far, she has been passing his tests.

He popped his chin on his knuckles and he had a look of contemplation, he took in a deep breath,

"Are your parents educated?", Chen Xiao asked.
