Chapter 3

MAVERICK'S POV:

I watched everyone especially my mom talk about the wedding as if it wasn't just a contract shit. The only reason I agreed was because I lacked the strength to argue with my mother nor did I have any energy to fight with my father. The last thing I wanted was a guilt trip from my parents, especially my mom.

I was tired of always being told never to disappoint the family. No matter how old I became, my mother always had a way of making me do what she wanted. So the least I could do was marry the girl sitting opposite me, to keep my peace.

The girl was very beautiful for sure but she wasn't my type of woman. She looked naive and timid, far from my typical type.

I hadn't even spoken to her since we got to their apartment. I guessed she was okay not talking to me because I was so okay not speaking to her.

And I didn't really care if we spoke to each other or not.

I watched her all along with my corner eyes, how she observed me. Maybe she fell already or so I thought. I just pretended the whole time not to notice all her glares at me. I mean, I blessed her with the honor to enjoy the glorious view.

I loved it because it just reminded me how good-looking I was. Mom was right, no female could ever say no to his son.

I tried to hide the smile molding on my lips.

When she wasn't looking, I glanced at her. She didn't look 20, she looked way older, like she was ready for marriage but in my eyes, she still appeared naive. She sat elegantly I noticed, maybe she was trying to impress me. It made me smile to think she was sitting the way she did to impress me.

Only ridiculous thinking about it, but I was kinda impressed.

I sort of enjoyed the glances I stole at her. Her eyes were beautiful for real, small eyelids that looked like it wouldn't cover her eyeballs. Her lashes were long enough to touch her cheeks when she blinked. Wondered if they were real.

She looked like her mother, even their voices sounded similar.

I'd emptied my plate of salad with no intentions of having more. My phone beeped, it was Maya. A reminder for the meeting with Nike. I didn't forget.

I checked the time, it was already 10:30 am, how time flies. I swallowed slightly gathering the courage to announce my exit. Then I looked at Natalie and weirdly, I got some courage.

"I should be leaving everyone. I have a meeting at 12. I need to get ready" I said releasing the oxygen I'd held in.

" it's only 10 Mav, stay a little longer," Mom said looking at me.

"At least wait for dessert" Natalie's mom begged.

I exhaled sharply rubbing my thighs.

I hated being away from business longer than an hour. I was addicted to my work, my company was my baby. I would leave eventually, I'll just wait a bit. I needed to be at work.

"Come on we should let Mav go, he has work to do" Oh thanks Dad, I love you. I said in my head while I smiled at my father's words.

Mom nodded faking a faint smile, she didn't want me to leave. I looked at Natalie she sat emotionless, I guess she didn't want me to leave either. She could be wanting more of my views. What an adorable wife. I smiled and adjusted my jacket. Also brushing my hair with my fingers, I stood up from my seat.

"See everyone soon. Thanks, Mr. and Mrs. Tores for the breakfast. Mrs. Tores your meatballs taste amazing" I said faking a smile.

"Thank you Maverick" then she smiled.

"I'll see you to the door," Natalie said standing up from her seat too.

I didn't expect that though. "Okay, thank you" I raised a brow.

I started walking towards the door. Natalie followed behind. I wondered if she was going to say goodbye or never come back, or say nothing at all. I didn't seem to expect anything from her.

When we got to the door, I stopped to look at her again.

"Your dress suits you perfectly," I said, my eyes on her waist. Didn't know why I said that. She must have thought I was a pervert judging that I looked at her waist and her breast.

She only smiled and nodded, guess she was too shy to speak directly to me.

Turning the doorknob, I stepped out quickly. I didn't hear her say goodbye or anything, I only heard the jam sound of the door as I walked to my car.

Eric my driver started the car engine once I got inside. While we drove, I thought of Natalie. How less frequent she spoke. Her sly smile when my father spoke to her, her beautiful eyes. My mind shifted to her body. The way that gown held out her round ass. The effect of the gown on her thin waist.

I shook my head. Why was thinking of Natalie? I sure I'm a pervert. For all I knew, she was a young timid girl, I didn't see her fit to admire but I did and thought of her too. I didn't even know why I complimented her dress. Anyways it was only the right thing to do to females; compliment them, especially the young ones. I consoled myself.

Eric drove for 51 minutes before pulling up in the company's parking lot.

Even before the car came to a total halt, I spotted Maya racing towards us as if not wanting to miss a flight or something. She carried files in her hand.

I opened the car door and stepped out before she reached me. She helped carry my bag and we both started walking into the building.

"I've made a reservation at De la Cruz cuisine," She said. I still wondered why she loved that place so much. She planned almost all my meetings with clients there.

"By the way, good morning Maya. You look good" I said smiling at her.

" Sorry sir" She stammered. "Good morning, you look good yourself sir. How was your breakfast appointment?"

" Didn't go so badly but thank you for asking" I smiled at her again.

"You are welcome sir," She said.

"Good morning sir" Rita the receptionist said as we walked past her table. What a clumsy lady. I shook my head. Together we got into the elevator.

The elevator ran silently to the fourth floor where our offices are located.
