Chapter 16 – Don’t Trust Someone Trying to Kill You

The hero sauntered into the middle, three figures joined him from the other direction. Grace was back in her colourful attire.

"How did you beat me to the tower?" Silk asked curiously. "I just have to know," he directed the question to Grace and the hero.

"You weren't that quick." The hero smirked.

"I'm slow, that wasn't expected. I teleported for gods sake," he muttered under his breath. "How are we doing this? One at a time or four on one?" Silk smiled to try and get underneath the others skins. You could see from their faces that it worked.

"We aren't stupid," Isaac said, he looked older which was surprising as Silk didn't. "It's obviously four on one."

Silk tried to recall memories of Isaac but couldn't remember anything about him in the war. None of his three friends had done anything in the war. "I can't remember you in the war, what happened?"

"Fought on a different front." Chloe chirped in.

"Interesting," Silk had no time to ponder the matter as Isaac outstretched his hand which he knew to be a bad sign in any fight. "Dammit," Silk grunted, he had lost the initiative. He dived to the side and where he was appeared a wooden stake from the floor. The attack did not stop, he scrambled on all fours to keep moving and avoid the attack.

He felt another dangerous presence, Grace appeared trying to clutch his face. He remembered Grace from his memories, she was dangerous, one touch and you were dead. He tried to redirect her with his gloved hands, she grabbed on to him. This had become too dangerous, his left glove started radiating a unbelievable heat, Grace broke from the grapple for her own safety, he took the opportunity to kick he away.

The hero took this opportunity to trap Silk, glass tore from the skyscraper windows and surrounded Silk like a cage. The glass suddenly shattered and all the shards surrounded Silk ready to impale him. He was in a dilemma but he didn't get his name from not escaping things like this.

Silk stamped his foot onto the ground sending magical energy down into it. An old-style clock face appeared on the floor, it was made from magical energy. The clock went backwards and the hero suddenly looked strained, the glass remade itself into windows and were placed where they came from like time was going backwards. The hero was sweating buckets trying to prevent this.

Silk looked more closely at Chloe, she seemed to be giving magical energy to his opponents but she had her eyes closed in deep focus. Silk knew that if she fed them her energy this fight might not go in his favour, he hadn't seen a technique like it so he didn't know how effective it was but he presumed the worst.

Silk burst forwards with extraordinary speed which he had hid earlier, he brutally punched Chloe, the fist penetrated through her stomach. Silk then turned and concentrated magic energy at his hands, it shot out like a bullet straight for the hero's head. It didn't penetrate the head which surprised him.

The hero took out a sword from thin air and charged at Silk, he flicked off the blood from his hand at the hero's eyes. It was surprisingly effective as the hero as temporarily blinded. Silk dodged. Another stake rose from the ground scraping Silk's arm, it didn't penetrate the suit. Silk looked to see Isaac's furious face, he didn't take Chloe's death well.

He saw Grace running at him again, Silk could sense that whatever magic he used would not beat the hero's defence. Silk used Grace by positioning himself behind her and grabbing her arm he used it to slap the hero's face. The hero dropped dead, he was dead instantly.

Silk tossed Grace away to the side. A spear of air hit him straight in the chest, this made Silk furious, he had become rusty. He turned to look at Isaac with a piercing stare but was surprised to see him with a human shield. It was bronze. He sped close to Isaac past a bombardment of magical projectiles, the magic defied physics and was confusing Silk as he thought it impossible.

The 'time' magic had just been him projecting images at the hero and suggesting through this undoing the magic, the rest was just for effect and hide the secret. It was just an illusion.

Isaac seemed to be able to redirect his magic which was thought impossible.

Silk reached Isaac and Bronze and tried to get around her to Isaac but he was just blocking him with her.

"Just kill me. I don't want to be in your way." She said resolutely. There was a fierce determination in her eyes.

Silk didn't even consider the options, "as you wish." He brutally punched through her and grabbed Isaac's head. Bronze's body was mutilated by the extreme force. He used all his force and slammed Isaac's head against the floor. He didn't die from one hit. Isaac had some magical force protecting him. Silk lifted his head and slammed it back on the ground, it took five more attempt before he was comfortable that Isaac was dead.

Silk turned to look at Grace. "Run," he beamed. Grace took this opportunity and went out the way she had come in.

Silk heard the cocking of a gun behind his head. He readied to click his fingers instinctively.

"I wouldn't do that if I was you dear brother."

"Emma?" Before he got an answer the butt of the gun hit the back of his head. This was the weak spot and he instantly fell unconscious.

Silk woke a tiny bit upset. One thing he disliked the most was being knocked unconscious, it was always unpleasant. The room was dark but if you looked closer there were multiple engravings in the floor.

"Do you know what this is?" a voice from behind said.

Silk tried to turn but couldn't, he was tied down. "Who are you?" Silk asked furiously.

The woman circled in front of him so he could see her. It was Maya. "We came here because of this, we even struck up an uneasy deal with the humans for this. You were always secondary."

Another older woman came from the other side, she had a thick Texan accent, "we needed this disposed of for humans and demons alike. The demons of London had become too much of a threat."

"What about Emma? Is she fine?" Silk asked calmed down but his voice showed deep concern for his sister.

"Don't worry. Your sister has always been well kept, she was our secret weapon against you after all."

"Good, you can promise she will stay well protected." Silk asked.

"Yes," the woman replied.

"Silk, we need you," Maya interjected. "This is a magical machine and we need you to disable it."

"I can see that but why should I do such a thing?"

"Easy," Maya waved her hand and two men cam into the room carrying Lucy. She was shoved onto the floor."

Lucy looked up and saw Silk, "Bronze, where is she?" She asked frantically.

Silk didn't look her in the eyes. "In a better place."

"You didn't. You disappear for a week and end up killing her. I thought you were a legend," she spat out.

"I had no choice." Silk raised his voice.

"You did. Whenever you don that suit you kill, everything else comes second. I shouldn't have ever given you that suit. You are nothing but a monster."

"Shut up," Silk shouted. He suddenly realised he was thinking how to shut Lucy up permanently. A new wave of emotion took him over, it was disgust. He was disgusted with himself, in that moment he promised himself he would not use magic to kill anyone else. Magic deserved more respect than this.

"I can't believe the hero lied to me, there were five opponents not four," Silk changed the subject.

"That's in the past." Maya walked over to Lucy, "she will die if you don't do what we want."

"Fine," Silk agreed but felt slightly annoyed that it was all going by Maya's terms. "Do you know what this thing is?"

"Yes, we need you to destroy or at least disable this thing with no adverse effects." Maya said.

"It will be quite hard. They have used magic amplification which means if it is just torn apart the whole thing will blow up just like my suit would. Worse than nuclear weaponry." Silk stated like it was fact even though he was talking rubbish.

Maya and the older woman looked at Silk a bit more worried than before. Silk let a small smile come to his lips. Now Maya didn't have complete control of the situation.

"You can do it though. Right." Maya tried to say confidently but let out a small stammer.

"Yes," Silk confirmed. "You will have to free my hand though and tell me what exactly this machine is so I at least know what this thing is."

"It's a time machine." The old woman stated showing no emotion.

Silk was stunned but regained his composure after a while. "Okay, I had better get started then," he tried to smile but it was obviously fake.

The two men that had led Lucy in undid Silk's bindings.
