Chapter 15 – The Offensive

Silk was solemn when he walked over to his friends.

"I couldn't scramble their signal, I didn't have enough magic power. There will be reinforcements." Silk stated.

"We will have to move quickly," said Lucy coming from behind.

"Not quite yet." Silk knelt on his knee and payed his respects. He knew it wasn't their fault but their superiors that they had done this. While they were not faultless Silk didn't believe they deserved this but he hadn't had enough time to make a plan to trap and immobilise them.

"You can't pay your respects in war." Lucy said with a condescending tone.

"Why not?" Silk retorted. "This will have to end," he eyed the tower. Silk flicked his wrist and his threads penetrated into the dead bodies, magic was sent from them and into Silk until he regained his magical energy.

Lucy looked at Silk weirdly and summoned another bag from nowhere. She unzipped it to reveal a pure white suit. "This is yours if you want. I would think it a good idea." Lucy suggested.

"This is what I wore in the twelve-year war." Silk was shaking. Memories, horrible memories that he had buried resurfaced.

"If you don't want the war to happen yet again I would suggest you wear it." Lucy advised further.

"With this suit we can end this quickly." Nick piped in.

"No one was your opponent with that thing. Silk the spider, the devil in white, even the angel of death to others. You were epic with that thing and could end any dispute with a click of your fingers. You can end this quickly." Bronze convinced.

"If it will end this then fine." Silk with shaking hand undressed and put on his white suit. As soon as the suit was on power seemed to course through his veins. There were multiple strengthening enchantments for his body making him physically superior to most things and to maintain this magic amplification circuit, which were made with magic conductive string in particular arrangements. The power to cast a spell and maintain spells were drastically amplified as the suit was perfectly tailored to amplify magic. It was an abomination of power.

He moved forward quickly remembering all the tricks this suit had. The last touch was a top hat. This suit was a more traditional cut to the black and brown suit, the design had not taken priority in it. Silk looked in the bag and saw a rapier inside, he gave it an odd look and pointed at it and it disappeared into his glove, he did this with his now unworn suit.

"Has anyone researched this suit?" Silk asked.

"No, the three of us have kept it aa secret, even from the new recruits like Grace and the self-proclaimed hero." Nick answered.

"We couldn't understand it if we wanted to." Bronze said. She eyed the glove which now held the sword. "Even my sword doesn't compare in sheer complexity."

"What happened to the workshop?" Silk asked Bronze specifically.

"The workshop was real." Nick exclaimed.

"The workshop never took off." Bronze informed. "I could never find anyone to replace you or anyone with enough talent to take on another role." She stopped for a while and then smiled, "may I say how nice it is to see you again boss."

"No, it is not nice or a good thing." Silk retorted.

Bronze took out a set of keys, leaving one for herself. "I made this in case you ever do find people worthy of this right. The keys can cut through to a neutral space I built in space, it is my greatest achievement."

"So be it." Silk was not in a good mood. He but the three keys into his glove, it held a space to put collectables, it was enormous.

"I don't mean to burst your bubble but we need to leave." Lucy said.

"Quite right." Silk focused and a portal appeared, "we can't walk all the way after all."

"A portal, I can't believe I get to use one." Nick said light headed.

They walked through and they appeared at the base of the tower, they were surrounded but that was only natural as this was the new base of operations for the humans. Silk was not surprised but knew that they would react quickly.

He started to slow down time or to be more specific he used the enchantment on his suit to increase the productivity of his body so he could effectively slow down time by ten times the speed, this was not his limit. Silk had used this in the past against a particularly strong opponent using time magic in the past.

Silk watched as guns and magic were readied. He distorted the space around the group of them this took ten seconds which was impractical this was why he had used the previous magic, which was quicker. Space distortion took a lot of energy but the suit could keep up and he had relevant enchantments to do this.

In one second of real time space around the group was split leaving a gap of nothingness, the enemy was split clean in half, it was a blood bath. Some did survive but this was expected of them as they were war veterans.

Nick whistled loudly and the engine of a car roared, it was his taxi. The taxi stormed through the bodies to Nick.

"Show your true might." Nick told the taxi. The taxi quickly morphed, the body grew black fur, heads emerged from where the front was. It grew to three times the height and three heads emerged. Four strong legs dug into the ground.

"This is impressive." Silk said.

"Thank you, he traded all intelligence for power. Cerberus is the only reason I survived the war." Nick beamed. "You go into the tower, we will take the survivors just fine." He assured smiling.

Silk nodded but a revelation came over him. "We only came here to get the taxi."

"We know you want to finish this," Bronze said.

There was a gunshot it whizzed past Silk, he could do nothing, it hit Nick. Nick hit the ground. Cerberus roared.

"We have to finish this now." Lucy barked.

"Your death will not be for nothing," Silk said in respect to Nick while running to the building. Nick turned to see Cerberus ripping apart two survivors at once while being brutally attacked from all sides.

"War is wrong, you can never justify it," Bronze said solemnly but had a wide grin on her face. Silk felt a bit of pity for her, she obviously enjoyed this.

They entered the building to find it empty. It was eerie and had way too many corridors from a normal building. It resembled a maze.

"This is not good. I am sorry to say this but we have to split up." Silk grimaced.

"I'll go right and Lucy will take left, you take middle." Bronze said. "I just hope it isn't one of the other four corridors," she worried.

"Agreed, there is no point worrying about it." Silk pointed out.

He knew that there was no point being cautious with the defensive power he held, he rushed past the first corner but felt something weird. He fell to the ground, he picked himself up and scanned his surroundings but detected nothing suspicious. Silk then outstretched his arm and a web of magical threads surrounded him, they detected nothing weird.

"I'm too busy to deal with this," Silk muttered to himself. He ran forward until he reached some stairs. He grinned and sprinted up them easily. They did not go to the top, it wasn't even one quarter of the way.

He came out onto another corridor, he ran forwards but a shadow sped past him knocking the back of his head. He balanced his head. The shadow stopped and revealed itself, it was the hero.

"Come with me if you can keep up," he bubbled with excitement.

Silk narrowed his eyes, "lead the way."

"I am leading you into an ambush but this is the only way we will have a chance."

"How many of you are there?"

"Four of us. Isaac, Chloe, Grace and me. We were all especially hired to kill you and the demons even agreed to work with humans just for this. You are not well liked." He was almost laughing.

"We had better get moving to my death." Silk deadpanned.

The hero moved forwards, "I can't tell if you are joking or not."

"I'm not, my jokes are excellent and you would definitely know if I was being funny or an idiot." Silk stated. They were running rather fast.

"Yes, it was rumoured that you always acted like an idiot when you were about to win. That can't be true."

"It was, I relied on others underestimating me."

"Why are you telling me this?" They headed up one flight of stairs until they reached a floor with no corridors, it was almost an arena.

"Yes, only an idiot would tell you this." Silk grinned but his eyes had a fierce fire burning in them
