Curiosity kills the Cat

"So what department are you going to apply to?" Amelia asks this question out of curiosity as she takes a bite of the cake and looks at the two people in front of her. This causes the two to pause in their actions as they think about the question raised by Amelia.

"I have been thinking of applying to the Combat Department," said Elijah.

"Oh! that department is under Prof. Lucifer Houston I heard that he became the top student of the academy at the age of 14 years old! Not only that he was a scholarship student sponsored by the Principal!" Amelia seems to be enthusiastic about talking about this professor.

"I heard that he join as a soldier in the front line in the time of subjugation of the Nightmare Wave! When the barricade is starting to fall and everyone at that time was in despair. As their commander at that time was killed in action defending the Sullivan Defense Wall. With no other choice, he took the lead of the soldiers defending the last defense wall. Fighting to their last breath he was like a God of Battlefield like a war god as he charges to the wave of nightmares." Elijah's eyes seem to be shining after speaking as he looks at Amelia's eyes as if he found a comrade. Amelia also felt the same as they set aside their differences and rejoice in each other as they are both fans of Prof. Houston.

"Scholarship?" Alexius suddenly butts in the conversation that destroys the two's flowery atmosphere as they broke from their thoughts.

"You haven't heard about it?" Both ask Amelia and Elijah as they look at Alexius with disbelief as if he lived in a cave.

"You see the Academy only accepts 7 000 students each year these students who entered the academy have undergo a test before they could even enter the Academy Grounds. The reason why there is fierce competition to enter this Academy because-"

"The Goddess of Wisdom's Library."

"Exactly! the Goddess of Wisdom's Library is not open not just to anybody as it is one of the remnants left by the Time of Gods. The only people who can enter this library must have the ID that only is given if you became the top student of the Academy!"

"The scholarship?"

"Don't be too impatient! so here's the thing didn't I told you the Academy only accepts 7 000 students per school year? Well, there are special circumstances that can let you enter the Academy which is the scholarships students. The scholarship students are the ones who have defeated the professors to prove their own abilities. As to prove that they are 'worthy' to enter the Academy you cannot enter the Academy with just some aristocratic background as they only assess your real worth as a person worthy to learn in the Academy." Amelia puffs out some pride after she said that.

'Her research about the Academy didn't waste! It was worth losing 5 days of sleep reading about the Academy's information.'

"I am also going to the Combat Department-- well not because of Prof. Houston-" as she coughs to cover of she said and pretends as if she didn't say those words.

"What about Alexius? Are you also going to the Combat Department?" As she looks at Alexius curious about his answer expecting to nod at the question. He then nods which didn't surprise them as he seems to be destined to enter this department.

"Now that I think about it I didn't felt cold since the moment we have take sit?" As Elijah looks at Amelia his face distorts from being confused into the face of being betrayed.

"You liar!"

"Excuse me! there is a proper reason why I release cold temperature at the train station you should not immediately accuse a person when you haven't listen to their side!" As Amelia spats at Elijah.

"Well then explain it!"

"Fine!"

Amelia as she evens her breath and looks at the both of them then sighs as she explains the reason.

"So your saying is that you cannot control your temperature because your powers are unstable?!" Amelia immediately closes Elijah's mouth as she signals him not to speak louder.

"Why are you shouting?!" She hisses at Elijah's reckless behavior it makes her even more pissed because of his reaction.

Elijah was confused it was unheard of that a spirit can synchronize its powers to its emotion. The power of a spirit depends on what type of element they are born with. As spirits are what we call independent individuals, unlike the other races which rely on the mana that was around the surroundings to conjure magic. They don't rely on the surroundings as they represent nature itself they cannot use another element other than the one they are born with. Spirits are born from natural mana from their surroundings for example Winter Spirits are born from the cold temperatures habitats. The habitats also determined what kind of spirit is born, unlike other races the spirit's characteristics have already been determined before they were even born.

"I just don't understand-It doesn't make any sense?" As Elijah thinks more deeply about what could be the possible thing to happen to make someone's powers unstable? Is there another reason why? Or possible there is a conspiracy happening unknowingly? When that thought passes through his mind it made him shudder from fear. Knowing too much can either kill you one day better close that train of thought.

"It is possible." Alexius' sudden comment making the other two look at him with curiosity as well confusion in their thoughts. He then looks at the other two looking at him some kind of mythical creature of the book. He just ignores their annoying look but he didn't continue.

"What do you mean it is possible?" asked Elijah.

"Yeah, I agree for once on him." Supported by Amelia curious to the answer.

He then looks at them in their eyes as if looking through their deepest secrets that you don't wish other people to know. As his eyes were like an abyss it was endless darkness that no light can even penetrate that would eat everything in its own way. They both held their breathes as if they minimize their presence against him because if they don't they feel that they would be sucked away from his eyes forever.

"Because..." Alexius suddenly opens his mouth what he said next made them a mental note in their mind to never ever do this again.

"You know what they say curiosity kills the cat..." His voice was so low that made them think that time he was a devil incarnate making a deal with them. As he pulls away from them and continues to eat his snack pretending as if he didn't say those words at them.

The two breathe a sigh of relief after he looks away from them as if they escape from a life-crisis event in their lives. As Amelia thinks about what Alexius made her even more curious but at the same time, she felt an unknown force that made her think that something bad is going to happen. As she looks back at Alexius who was sitting opposite of her who was enjoying his snacks.
