Recruitment Day

A few days passed with Yern hiding in a small house above the doctor's office. There wasn't anything useful he could do with his leg being so messed up. Allen told him today he would meet the other people who might decided to join the soon to be formed gang.

Yern could at least walk by himself, no one would take him seriously if he showed up leaning on Allen. ' What if these people are here to try to collect the bounty on me? Allen probably thought about that too.' Yern thought, still laying in a very uncomfortable bed. Not that his own was any better.

Allen had confirmed the day after the break in that Marrow put a bounty of 500 coins on his head. They wanted him alive, probably so they could beat the location on the money he stole. Then they would kill him.

Hours after Yern woke up, he heard a knock at the door. He was up in a second with a knife in his hand and stared at the door. Instantly he was worried, what if it was bounty hunters? How did they find him? Did someone sell him out?

"It's me, Yern." Tack's voice said from behind the door. Yern didn't move, there could still be someone else there from Marrow. Then another voice came from behind the door.

"Yern, stop being paranoid and come out." Allen said, which made Yern actually start moving this time. There was no way Allen would sell him out.

Opening the door for the first time in a few days, he was blinded by the light for a few seconds. Once he could see there stood the twins and Allen equipped with their weapons. 'Guess its time to go' Yern thought very relieved he wasn't going to be dragged to Marrow. Tack had a wooden bat resting on his shoulder while his brother had a hammer and Allen had a small knife like Yern's " The meeting spot is across from the Marketplace, so no one will come for you there." Allen said, heading down the stairs to the door. This helped calm Yern a little.

Allen was right, no one would make a move at the Marketplace for two reasons. One, there were too many witnesses who would happily tell what they saw to the Peace Enforcers for the right price.

The second reason was the Peace Enforcers themselves, if they saw you would beat you and if they really didn't like it they would throw you in jail for a few days.

They were on Market Street already, so the walk wouldn't take them long. It would be even quicker if it wasn't for Yern's leg.' What am I supposed to say to these people anyway? No way they just follow me because I robbed Marrow.' Yern thought to himself for a while before he finally asked Allen. "So Allen, how am I supposed to convince these people to join us?" to which Allen just stared at him.

"Are you serious?" Allen asked. Seeing Yern was he continued. " They already want to join us. We pick who we want based off what we think we need." Allen explained. The fact that people were willing to join without much reason showed that people were tired of Marrow and the other gang leader.

'So no inspirational speech was needed' That was perfectly fine with Yern since he'd been stressing over it for the past few days. ' What skills would we need? People who can fight of course. We need some way to make coins or we'll fall apart'. He thought.

New gangs forming wasn't a rare thing, but them sticking together rarely happened. The only gang that was newly formed and stayed together that Yern knew of was Jack's. Jack's gang was mostly used as guards for businesses and did jobs that were legal.

They passed the Marketplace and the Peace Enforcer HQ until they reached an alley with enough people in it that Yern didn't try to count them. Before they went into the alley, Allen turned to the three and began to speak.

"Now listen, we can't bring too many people in right now. We're making just barely enough money for ten more people with the money from the clinic."

"I have the money I took from Marrow. We can use that too." Yern said, wondering why he excluded that money.

"No, we need that to expand the clinic or find some other source of income." Allen said.

Yern decided he would let Allen worry about the money side of things and he would worry about what they did in the streets. So they walked into the alley and the people in thier way moved as they saw who it was. Yern heard whispers like "That kid robbed Marrow?" or "I think he's robbed me before" the latter not being whispered at all.

They reached the back of the alley and it seemed like everyone was waiting on them to say something. Allen gave Tack a nod and he started to speak in a commanding voice that you would expect from a full grown man, not a short 16 year old.

"We will pick ten people from those gathered today to join our group. We will pick you based on the skill we think most useful to us so go all out. Get in a line and the first person can start." Tack said and surprisingly they listen. With the people in a line Yern could count them now. There were 26 people in the alley with them. There were guys and girls ranging from 10 to 19. Like Allen said the younger people didn't seem to want to follow Marrow and needed someone too.

The first person in line was a small white girl, probably the youngest person here. She said she was good at counting and doing "equations". Yern didn't know what that meant but Allen told her to come talk to him, so he assumed it was a good thing.

After the small girl was her complete opposite. A tall and well built man who had pushed his way to the front of the line. He said he previously worked as a bodyguard for a merchant and wanted to do the same for them. Yern figured he would need a bodyguard since he was the boss and told him to stand off to the side.

A few more none interesting people came up and presented why they should be picked and all were sent away. The man who Yern had allegedly had robbed came up and tried to attack him until the titan of a man from before knocked him to the ground. 'This guy is a beast! He getting picked for sure.'
