Chapter 3: Price to pay for a life

"Ruby!!"

"Ruby please don't do this to us!"

"Don't you dare close your eyes!"

It had been hours since Ruby was kidnapped, she was scared.

She had just woken up and she was in a dark room, tied to a chair. Her head was bleeding from the hit she took earlier when she was hit on her head.

With the way things looked she was not going to survive this. To the left of her was rusty tools on a table and dried blood. In fact their looked to be dried blood all over the walls as well.

Ruby turned her head towards the ground as she heard the door knob turn. She was afraid, feeling like she was going to die any minute.

The door opened and footsteps approached Ruby at a medium pace.

" Well, well look who's finally awake. Have a nice rest sleeping beauty?" A feminine voice rang out, sending chills down my spine.

I didn't look up at the women. She must not have liked that.

My face snapped to the right as searing pain through my face, my headache got worse from that, as I let out a groan of pain. She harshly grabbed my chin and tilted my head up.

Her hot breath fanned on my face. This women was too close for comfort. Her face was only a few inches away from my own face.

She had light hair and dark eyes, on her left cheek near her eye was a beauty mark. She had a scar on her bottom lip as well. I didn't know her...

'Who is this... This... JERK!?' Ruby thinks as her glares at the women who kidnapped her from her own home.

Ruby:" Who the heck of you!"

???:" Hmpf. What a rude little girl. Didn't your parents ever teach you to respect your elders?" The still unknown female asked. This jerk really thinks I would respect her?

Ruby:" Well to bad old lady. Respect is earned not given. If you want my respect then tough luck, you aren't getting it!" She backed away from me with her hair covering her eyes.

Ruby:" Oh no... I think I messed up...'

???:" I wasn't planning on hurting you right away but I changed my mind. Let's hope you survive this, little bitch." The way she said that sent shivers down my spine. She walked a few feet to the left of me, picking up a tool and tape from the table that was there.

I started pulling against my ropes, trying to get then loose, only making them tighter in the process. I could feel my blood run cold as she picked up a rusted machete. The handle was covered in blood, both dry and wet, it was used on someone just a few minutes ago it looks like...

I tried backing up as she approached me but found out that my ankles are tied to the chair as well. My hands are to tightly bound to even move them, to the point that I could barely feel them.

The women grabbed my shoulder with her free hand, placing some tape over my mouth. I close my eyes, knowing that this was going to be a long day.

I only hope that I will make it out alive.

I let out a muffled scream of pain, as I could my stitches breaking as the women punched my gut. I could feel blood coming up my throat, dripping out from the loose sides of the tape.

I knew she was just getting started though. I send a wave of aura through the ground trying to find Raven or at least Summers aura... Nothing... They probably don't even know I was kidnapped, they must've thought I died in the fire.

I- I don't feel so good. My vision is become blurry. I shake my head as my eyes cleared up a bit. I felt my rage spike as I felt a burning sensation in my abdomen, a bit above my navel, and my eyes felt warm, not burning just warm, before it stopped it was happening in faint flashes.

The women grabbed Ruby's face once more, but this time with a different goal.

She raised her rusted knife to the left side of Ruby's face, pressing it down against her skin, as Ruby's eyes widen in fear. The tip of the knife was dangerously close to Ruby's eye, one slight movement forward would cause the knife to go straight into her eye.

But that didn't end of happening as the knife was harshly pressed into the skin of her left cheek before it was jolted down causing a jagged like wound, the pain felt worse then when Ruby was punch in the gut, and you could tell due the the muffled anguished cries that came from Ruby.

The women repeated the process once more of the left side of Ruby's cheek before causing one on the right side of Ruby's face. Before stabbing Ruby in the gut. The knife grazing her uterus and lungs. A scream ripped trough the silver eyed girl's mouth, loosening up the tape.

Blood was rushing quickly out of the wound the girl had just gotten as well as the wounds she had received in the past few days. She was crying in pain as it felt like the pain was just getting worse.

The women seemed done with the knife, as she had dropped it back on the table, before walking back to Ruby.

She harshly gripped onto Ruby's arm, which was, might I remind you, tied tightly to the chair, even the slightest movement would hurt Ruby.

Her grip moved down to Ruby's forearm, before her grip became tighter, the women's grip was quickly become tighter every second.

Before suddenly...

Snap!

Ruby's scream was heard through the tape coving her mouth and echoing through out the building, along with a sickening feminine laugh, together they made shivers run up everyone's spine.

They were heard outside of the building but it was not loud enough to alert anybody... Probably...

Ruby had passed out from the pain she had received, the chair Ruby was in had fell over, of course taking Ruby with it.

The women huffed before moving to kick Ruby.

Just as the kick connected though, a alarm sounded through out the building as the women's face turned to one of annoyance.

How dare they interrupt her fun time.

As the women rushed out of the room the sound of things being thrown and destroyed was sounding though the building as if it were on repeat.

Ruby's vision was once again becoming hazy and and felt dizzy. She began coughing as she rested her head on the floor. She could hear the sounds faintly, screams, people begging for help, gunfire, and... Screams of rage? From multiple people? That was impressive because Ruby could hear the screams of rage quite loudly over the ringing in her ears.

Soon enough a man came running through the door and straight at Ruby. He yanked up Ruby's chair causing pain to shoot through her body.

He raised a knife to her chest right above Ruby's heart. Fearfully staring at the door. As if someone was after him.

Ruby began coughing more as she tried to catch her breath but because of the tape over her mouth, holding back most of the blood in her mouth and her grazed lungs were not helping one bit, she couldn't get enough oxygen in her lungs.

It was causing Ruby to starting having a bit of trouble staying awake as well. Her lungs felt like they were burning due to not having enough oxygen and due her injuries and how tight the ropes are she was positive she wouldn't even survive. Ruby was hoping that her family was coming to get her but she had no such luck before so why would she have it now?

Her hearing was slowly being filled with a ringing noise. Ruby's left eye being forced closed due to blood from her injury she got at her , now burnt down, house.

Ruby:' So...t-tired...' The girl thought as she had tears welling up in her eyes.

The girl was so out of it that she didn't notice the five figures running into the room.

She faintly heard a bang over the ringing in her ears. Ruby couldn't lift her head though she felt to weak, to tired, and dizzy.

She felt the ropes constricting her body come off. Her body falls of the chair, she would have fell on the ground if it weren't for someone catching Ruby and placing her on the floor.

She felt the tape being removed as someone turned her to her side, letting the blood flow out of her mouth and onto the, now red, ground. It wasn't much but it allowed Ruby to breathe again.

Though she was mostly coughing up the blood that came up her throat. Soon she stopped coughing but that didn't stop the tears coming flowing down her face.

The ringing didn't stop, it only became louder. Soon Ruby passes out from blood loss.

"Ruby!" Yelled a male with red hair and what seemed to be black bull horns and blood covering his body minus his head. He checked her pulse. " Shit! Her pulse is slowing down!" He said as her took the tape off her mouth turning her to her side so she can cough it all out with blood getting on the male's clothes, but the male couldn't care less as he was already covered in blood.

???:" Don't you dare close your eyes!" A female with black hair and red eyes yelled as Ruby's eyes closed . She had place skin that made everything pop out but was covered in blood. She was kneeling on the other side of Ruby.

Black haired female:" {Error} Quick freeze her wounds!" The female yelled to another female with white hair and blue...no red eyes who was drenched in blood.

The white haired female nodded before pulling out a rapier and froze Ruby's wounds that were on her abdomen.

White haired female:" The ice won't last for long. It is melting at a extreme rate and I am low on ice dust." Making the black haired girl's eyes widen.

???:" Move! We got to get her to a hospital goddammit!" A women said as she picked up Ruby, revealing that it was Raven, whom was drenched in blood like the other three. " Tell your mother's that I will be taking Ruby to a hospital in hell." Raven said as she used her sword to open a portal.

White haired male:" Quick let's hurry!" The second male of the group said as he rushed out with the others (Minus Raven and Ruby) followed. The white haired male was also drenched in blood like Raven and the others.

Raven took one more glance at Ruby before stepping through the portal.

Raven ended up in front of a hospital. She rushed into the hospital, bursting through the doors causing attention to be drawn to the women carrying a bloody, unconscious, child. The women that was COVERED in head to toe in BLOOD. It made it even more dangerous that this was a 5 star devil general that was covered in blood.

Raven:" I need some help here!" Doctors immediately took Ruby from Raven's bloody hands and placed her on a Gurnee and rushed her to the emergency room while Raven followed for as long as she was allowed to. When she was stopped the realization of what happened finally hit her. She waited outside the emergency room, still soaked in blood from head to toe.

Her kid was in there. Her youngest kid was in there most likely on the verge of death.

Raven has not felt like this since one of her other daughters was in a similar position to Ruby . It was at times like this that she wished she could use her maiden powers to heal. Yet sadly she can't.

Soon the rest of Raven's and Ruby's family came through the door before spotting Raven. They hurried over to Raven, with Summer naturally being in the lead. The others that were with her were no longer covered in blood, signaling that they washed up before coming here.

Once summer got to Raven she put a hand on Raven's face. Not caring if she got blood on it. Summer slightly paled knowing that some of that blood was Ruby's. Shaking her head slightly, Summer wanted to know the extent of Ruby's injuries.

Though by the looks of Raven and her other kid's faces... It wasn't good.

Summer:" Do you know anything about Ruby's injuries, Raven?" Raven didn't answer as her eyes were glazed over in fear.

Knowing that she most likely won't get any answers from her first wife, she turned to her kids.

Summer:" Adam, Bleiss, Weiss, Winter, Whitley, what are your analysis of Ruby's injuries?" She knew that at least one of them saw what Ruby's injuries looked like at least.

Winter, who looked like a carbon copy of her mother, stepped up first.

Winter:" I don't know the extent of Ruby's injuries. I was too busy dealing with what was left of the group that kidnapped Ruby." What Winter said was true, she was taking care of the people who kidnapped her sister, ( Whom she never met before), Winter was pissed that they took her younger sister, (Ruby), and was taking her anger out on them.

Whitley, who looked like a smaller male version of Winter, stepped up. " Her old injuries were opened up and bleeding heavily and she was also bleeding from her head, Ruby was stabbed in the gut by a rusted knife well, due to the angle of the knife it seemed to have damaged her uterus and lungs, I am unsure how damaged she though I didn't get enough time to check that before Weiss froze the wound. She also had two cuts to the left of her face and one to the right of her face, each going from her cheek to her jawbone all of them caused by the same rusted knife and a broken arm." Whitley made sure that his parents got every word that he said.

Summer's eyes tear up slightly before gently shaking her head, trying to remain positive. Turning her head towards Raven she sees Willow talking to her.

Willow:" How about you go home and wash up? We'll contact you if they say something about Ruby." Willow says as Raven nods.

Slashing her katana, Raven makes a portal before stepping through it.

Willow sighs a little before leaning against the wall and staring at the glowing 'In Surgery' sign above the door, knowing that Ruby was going to be in surgery for a while with the injuries she gained.

Willow hopes that Ruby will be okay, she knows that Raven and Summer care about Ruby a lot, Willow hopes to be a big part in Ruby's life as well. Though right now she was just concerned about Ruby surviving.

Willow pushed off the wall before heading towards Summer and the kids. They were unnaturally silent.

Willow knew that with the kid's silence the wounds that Ruby had were just as they said, that Ruby was going to have a slim chance to live.

Sitting down next to Summer and the kids, she pulled them into a hug, trying to at least comfort them a little bit.

The surgery was most likely going to take hours, and their was fear in their hearts that something was going to happen.

Raven was gone for about 30 minutes before she came back, her hair still wet and dressed in new clothes. She now adapted a worried face.

Raven:" Anything yet?" The ravenette questions as she sits down with her wifes and her kids.

Adam:" No. Nothing yet, the surgery is not going to be done for another few hours if nothing goes wrong." Adam says as he runs his hand through his hair.

Weiss:" Don't you fucking dare jinx us." Weiss says as she puts her rapier to the neck of her older brother.

Adam:" That is just a myth Weiss" Adam says as he tries to move Weiss's rapier away from his neck, afraid that one wrong move and his little sister would slit his throat.

Suddenly a doctor rushed out of the operating room.

Doctor:" We need more doctors STAT. She losing a lot of blood!" The doctor yelled before she rushed back into the operating room with other doctors soon following close behind.

Summer's breathing picked up as she put her hands over her ears. Raven and Willow quickly went to help summer, while Winter, Bleiss, Weiss, and Whitley glared at Adam.

Weiss tightened her grip on her rapier and stalked towards Adam with her now red eyes gleamed with anger.

Weiss:" Adam..." Weiss said calmly before her red eyes widen in rage, " I AM GOING TO SHOVE MY RAPIER UP YOUR ASS" Adam gulped before he got dragged away by a pissed of Weiss as Bless grinned and Whitley had a terrified face as he hid behind Winter who also looked terrified.

They all noted that Weiss was definitely going to the top overprotective older sibling.

Raven and Willow finally managed to calm Summer down as someone entered the hospital with papers, they were heading towards the three adults with a angered look on their face.

The sound of their footsteps alerted the three teens and the three adults. Raven soon gained a serious expression as the person stopped in front of Raven.

Raven:" Vernal, I assume you found out who leaked Ruby's information." Asked the devil general to her most trusted clan member ( That wasn't part of Raven's main family.)

Vernal:" Indeed but you are not going to like it." Vernal responded as the angered look on her face faded a bit seeing the dried tears on the three adult's faces.

Summer stood up as well as Willow. They didn't know that Ruby's information was leaked, nor did they know that Raven sent Vernal to investigate what exactly happened.

"What?" Two voices said as footsteps approached them. This caught everyone's attention.

The two people turned out to be Adam and Weiss, though Adam had Weiss's rapier through his shoulder as Weiss had thrown it at him when she couldn't catch him.

All the teens were now interested about what the adults were talking about. They were all eyes and ears.

Willow:" Who leaked Ruby's Information?" Willow sounded out causing Vernal to continue with what she was about to say before she was cut off.

Vernal:" It was the nurse who was checking up on Ruby yesterday. Apparently she sold out were you guy's lived and wanted to get rid of Ruby as the nurse thought she could get big bucks for selling out information on Ruby to the highest bidder. The doctor was not involved though." Vernal said as she used her Aura to conceal everyone's bloodlust as it could affect the doctors doing Ruby's surgery. " Calm the fuck down, we are all angry but I can't conceal your bloodlust for long and once I can't conceal it anymore you might affect the doctors doing Ruby's surgery!" Vernal yelled at them causing them to realize what they were doing making them quickly stop releasing their bloodlust.

Raven:" I should've known the nurse had done this, she had this fucking greedy look in her eyes." Raven said as she punched the wall closest to her.

Willow:" Enough! Tell me that you have someone chasing the nurse down and capturing her." Willow said making Vernal nod.

" Yes, I told that orange haired and that ice cream girl what happened to Ruby and the two immediately went to hunt the nurse down. I am not sure how they know Ruby though." Vernal said as Willow smiled, it was a small smile but it was terrifying, it was scary for everyone around her including Raven.

Soon everything went silent again a Vernal sat down as well, Raven was family to her and so that means that Raven's family is her family as well. Also she knew they wouldn't mind.

The only thing that they could hear was the clock ticking and other people talking in the background.

Soon a doctor came out of Ruby's operating room, it was the same doctor that come to ask for more doctors. She spotted the Branwen family and walked towards them, the look on the doctor's face made then feel uneasy.

The doctor soon stopped in front of them.

Whitley grew pale as he knew the news wasn't going to be good. " I-I can't. I'm going to be sick." He said as he ran to the gender neutral bathrooms as the other teens followed behind with Winter staying behind.

She can't die. They have to keep trying. Please... Please... I can't lose one of my family members like I almost lost one of my sisters.

I ran into the bathroom ( Which luckily had no one in it.) And ran to the closest toilet before puking up anything that was in my stomach.

I heard the bathroom door open but I didn't move as the after taste of me throwing up was making me puke more.

I feel a two warm hands on my back signaling that it wasn't my sisters and that so it had to be Adam and big sis Vernal. Due to our semblances having something to do with the cold our bodies were naturally cold

Adam:" Hey it'll be okay. Remember Ruby is still human, we are devils. If Ruby is not going to survive then mom will turn her into a devil." He said as he took his hand of my back. Handing me a water bottle. I nod my head in appreciation and I took a sip of water clearing out the after taste of the puke before spitting it out.

Taking a few deep breaths I stand up as Vernal took her hand off my back.

Whitley:" Do any of you have any mints?" I say as I wipe my mouth. Adam shakes his head no.

Vernal:" Here kid. I always have mints on me." I graciously took the mint and tossed it in my mouth. It was peppermint flavored.

We head out of the bathroom and back towards the others as I see that Bleiss was waiting for us outside of the bathroom.

"So do you want the good news or bad news first?" The doctor said in a sad tone.

Winter:" We would like the good news first. Please" Winter said as she knew her mom would stumble over her words.

Doctor:" The good news is that the girl survived her surgery and has a deadly sin." The doctor said as everyone's faces turned to shock. Luckily only the Branwen family heard what the doctor said.

Doctor:" Bad news is that Ruby isn't going to survive the night. One of our rookies cut to deep and made the wound on her lung worse to the point that we were only able to stop the bleeding. Also we weren't able to tell what deadly sin she has." The doctor said before walk away from the shocked family.

We now see the Branwen family in a hospital room with, a now awake, Ruby who seems to be in pain.

Summer:" Ruby I know this may be scary but we are going to turn you into a devil so you can survive." Summer says as she grips Ruby's hand a bit tighter.

Ruby didn't verbally answer as it hurts for her to speak. So Ruby nodded in response.

Ruby was introduced to her siblings when she woke up.

Bleiss:" All the wounds you have now will turn into scars the second you become a devil. You will still look the same but with training you can MAYBE grow taller." Bleiss said teasingly as Ruby grew a tick mark. The first chance she gets she is gonna shove her foot up Bleiss's ass.

Willow:" We are going to start the process now, so you'll be out a while." Ruby nods once more before closing her eyes. Soon darkness overcomes Ruby as she fell back asleep.

Seeing that the sleeping medicine worked, the adults ushered the teens out and were about to begin the process of turning Ruby into a devil.

First they had to use magic to find were the deadly sin was located but unfortunately they couldn't as the sin was most likely still locked.

So they had to pour devil magic into Ruby's heart as their hands close their respective colors.

This wasn't going to be a long process at all.

But soon a dark crimson Aura came from Ruby's body as it seemed to take in the magic and was using the magic to turn Ruby into a devil.

Shocked the three adults didn't move their hands, nor did they stop sending magic to Ruby.

Soon a crimson flash enveloped them.

My head hurts. A lot but I do feel a lot better.

My eyes still feel heavy though. I sit up, noticing that their was no pain in my movement.

I rub my eyes trying to see it that would help at all. Luckily it did.

I opened my eyes and see that I am in the hospital once more. I make eye contact with my mother, Willow, she smiles and I see that everyone else in asleep in the room.

Ruby:" I am guessing that you guys stayed here all night." I smile at my mom who was asleep holding my hand.

Willow:" Yeah, you know you really surprised us." Willow said as she approached me.

I tilt my head, how could I have surprised them.

Willow chuckled and pointed to her head. I stay silent before I rushed my hands to the top of my head. Resting my hands on my head I feel something fluffy, scratch that two fluffy things. I was about to pull on them when Willow caught my hand.

Willow:" They are wolf ears Ruby don't pull on them, you would only hurt yourself." Willow said quietly as to not wake any of the others in the room. " Now try not to panic but you also have a tail." I felt my back, feeling a long fluffy thing. Yep that is a tail alright.

I sigh before leaning back.

I was quiet for a while before a thought hit me.

Ruby:" Hey when can we go home? Did something happen to the house?" Ruby was curious as she the only thing she remembers before getting knocked out was a bright flame.

Willow:" Our house burned down, but don't worry I have someone taking care of our situation and is having a place being made for us already in a different location. I am not going to tell you who he is but I will say one thing... Rat God" Pardon?

Ruby:" R-...Rat god?" I say tilting my head as my tail flicked.

Willow:" Yup Rat God. So the house should be done in about a hour." Willow said accordingly. I let out a confuzzled noise.

I decided not to question it though. But still who is rat god?

Willow:" Let wait until the others wake up before we leave the hospital." I nod before suddenly my stomach rumbled...

I could feel my face become red, that was embarrassing.
