Chapter 8 - First mission

'First mission huh, I wonder what it'll be. Whatever it is I have to do it.'

Checking the time again and seeing that it was 2 AM, I decided to finally go to sleep. I still go to junior high, mainly because my parents make me, and the fact that I'm still trying to keep a normal image.

I'm in my third year and going to high school soon, as I thought that Hyakkauo Private Academy would be a good place to gather wealth. Another reason is the idea of taking all those rich and arrogant kid's money does make me excited, not nearly as much as this group chat, but I still think it's a good way to spend some time.

"Time ha, I guess if I used my stand it would be impossible to lose. But where's the fun in that, winning is what I do; stand, death note or nothing at all, I'll still win."

Thinking about the death note reminds me of the manga I wrote, and I've decided to publish it. So tomorrow after school I need to go to a publishing house, I should look into them in my free time at school as I do not know the manga industry.

After getting everything ready for tomorrow I went to bed and closed my eyes, drifting off into the land of dreams, mainly focused on one individual.

-3rd POV-

A teenage boy dressed in junior high school clothes just got off a train. He has medium-length hair, a sharp jawline and obsidian-coloured eyes. He would be considered handsome at the moment, even with his not-so-stylish glasses and his unkempt hair. But if he were to fix those problems then he could be a model, especially with his jawline and mesmerising eyes.

This young man was none other than the protagonist of this story and the story of Death Note, Raito Yagami, a genius boy with a somewhat skewed sense of justice. He is on his way to Shueisha, the largest publishing company in Japan. Eventually, he arrived in front of the towering glass building and went through the reception door.

"This is Shueisha Publishing Company, how can I help you today?" The pretty receptionist said in a polite tone, something repeated numerous times.

"I would like to publish a manga." The boy replied flatly, showing his disinterest in her charm. Something many other teenage boys wouldn't be able to do.

"Do you have a copy with you for review, if so then an editor can review it shortly and see if it's eligible for publication." The receptionist replied, again with the same polite tone, but this time a little sceptical.

Understandable seeing as the boy was a junior high student, even if he was talented it's unlikely he could create something good enough for publication. Something she would never openly display on her face though, as that would be disrespectful and could cost her her job.

"Yes, I have a copy of the first volume. Would that be alright?"

"That would be perfect, although they will only review the first chapter as our editors have a very busy schedule. I hope you understand. Please give me your name and sit over then. I'll call your name when an editor is ready for you." She pointed to an area with a couple of chairs, some were already occupied, with the occupants being there for the same reason as the boy. To submit their manga. But the major difference was that most of them were sweating like crazy, and were a lot older, being actual adults.

"My name is Raito Yagami." He said and quickly left for a seat, not showing any signs of nervousness, clearly very confident.

-1st POV-

'It's annoying I had to come to Tokyo just to publish my manga, but these guys are the best so they're the only options to publish this masterpiece.'

I thought whilst reading through my manga for the first time. As I was mid-way through the first volume, and after a couple of other names were called, I was finally called to have my manga reviewed.

I followed another lady to an editor's office, she seemed to be an editor's assistant. As I walked in the editor gave me a dismissive and bored look, then said in a tired and emotionless tone,

"Give me the manga for review, but don't expect anything kid, this isn't something to do for fun."

The assistant left the room, leaving just me and the editor alone. I gave him my manga, ignoring his words as he'd soon be praising me and apologising for his insolence.

"Don't say I didn't warn you kid *sigh*" The man sighed and then opened my manga, finally starting to read it. His broad face quickly changed to intrigue. He quickly finished the first chapter, then started the next, completely forgetting that he was supposed to be reviewing the manga and not just reading it.

Finally, after finishing reading all seven chapters, he set down the book and realised he was supposed to be working.

"This... This is amazing. Sorry for doubting you, kid. This could be published, I don't even see any problems for you to revise. We should work out a contract for publishing it, I would love to put this in the weakly Shonen Leap, it's just seeing as you are a school kid, I don't think you could make the deadline on time. That leaves the monthly Shonen Leap. What do you think, excited?" His tired tone was completely gone, now just glee and anticipation. His expression looked like he just found gold, and let's be honest, this is a lucky day for him, as he gets to publish my manga.

"It's fine to publish it in the weekly Shonen Leap as I've already finished it. It's seven volumes long"

"WHAT! Kid... you amazing."

"My name's not kid, it's Raito Yagami."

"Huh, so you gave the protagonist the same name as yourself. That's somewhat concerning, considering the protagonist's nature."

"I'm just bad at naming things, it's nothing to concern yourself with," I said in a dismissive tone. Whilst naming the main character the same name as my own does have its downsides, I had to keep the story true, even if it's just something as simple as my name.

"Alright kid, I mean Yagami, by the way, do you have a pen name?"

"It's Kira."

"Now I truly do wonder if you are just bad at naming, well whatever, I need to bring this to the editor-in-chief. If you give me your contact information, I'll call you back when we're ready to sign a contract with you.

Even though you're a novice mangaka, we'll likely give you the same royalty rates as renowned mangakas, seeing as the quality is amazing and you've already completed it.

You can leave now, just remember to give your phone number and name to the receptionist so we can get in contact with you. I also just want to say, it'll be a pleasure to be your editor, and I hope if you're unsatisfied you tell me where I can improve"

"Thank you for your time," I said before leaving the room, satisfied with the outcome, even if I had predicted something like that was going to happen.

I went to the reception desk, gave my name and phone number, and then finally left the building.

"*Breath in* *Breath out* That's finally other, god that was boring. I should check the group chat, seeing as I haven't checked it today."

And when I did I saw something that washed away my boredom and brought a massive grin to my face.

[First mission]

[Requirements: Kill The White Whale]

[Only three members are allowed to participate]

[Please select amongst yourselves]

And beneath that was another message with details on what the mission function entails.

[All participating members will be transported to another world to complete this mission. Whilst this is happening every member of the group chat world will be frozen in time. This means no matter how long you take, no time will pass in your original world. Another thing is the participating members will be unable to use the chat function of the group chat. Only being able to access the inventory and nothing else.]

-authors note-

A longer chapter for you. I've put Shonen Jump as Shonen Leap in this world. I'm neither Japanese or a mangaka so I don't really know how that process works, I just did my best using Google and Quora.

The White Whale is the whale from re:zero. Whilst some missions will have a requirement of inviting another member to the group chat, that isn't going to be every mission.

Yue is about to finally be free which I'm excited about, so I might write another chapter, but this isn't a promise.

Another thing is when I put that the MC mainly dreamed about one person, I obviously meant L, but I didn't mean it in a weird way. It's just that I think in some weird way L was Lights only friend, so it's more like him reminiscing his battles with his only friend and rival. But this wil be the last mention, as JoJo is going to be his new rival.
