Chapter 10

It was an hour-long drive to downtown Memphis on the bus and I got off a few stops ahead near an old gas station. I changed into a white dress with roses on the bottom hem. It was a simple off-the-shoulder rose-patterned cotton dress that reached a few inches above the knees. I wore some heels since it made it easier to look older, and grabbed the wallet that Marcus had placed inside.

The name was Beatrix Williams, and her age was 26. It's a little older than I thought it would have been, but it will do. I walked outside with headphones in my ear and my phone in one hand. I knew the owner since he was an associate, so I left my bag on the counter and he put it up as I left.

There were pictures of a new restaurant that I pretended to be interested in as I hurried across the street back to the bus stop. I rode the next bus to downtown and walked around a few blocks pretending to search for something.

I felt a few eyes on me, and some even catcalled but it didn't matter, as I hurried into a coffee shop. It was a simple shop with few people inside, I noticed my target by the window in a hoodie and jeans, as I ordered a warm cup of tea. Once I was finished ordering I walked towards the opposite side to where he sat and waited for my order. I pretended to be on the phone while keeping an eye on him and the waitress who was delivering my order.

Then once given my orders, I walked outside slowly towards the restaurant. I stopped by a shop and got some of their handmade sweets for the little ones. The man that I was following is meant to meet someone at a restaurant nearby so that's where I was headed.

My plan was simply to slip something in his drink that will take a few hours to take effect and I wouldn't be involved during the time of his passing. That way my job would be finished by tomorrow and I can relax for the weekend. I smiled as the waiter left the man walked in. I was sitting diagonally to the left of the door so I was able to see him without turning around. I moved my gaze just as easily and looked at people outside the window. I was about to pull out my phone when someone asked, "Is this seat taken?"

I glanced up, my eyes widened but I controlled myself quickly saying, "No the seat is not taken." He smiled asking, "Did you order yet?" I gave him a small smile before saying, "Yes, I did." He called a waiter over and ordered something as well, I took in a deep breather, my patience was running out.

"Elliot, what are you doing here?" I asked once the waiter had left. He laughed saying, "Relax, I just wanted to check up on you. So how was your day off school?" He asked putting the menu aside. I smiled saying, "Excuse me." I grabbed my phone walking towards the restroom.

Elliot was a friend from school, who has a habit of being annoying. I sighed, I need to use him to my advantage, but how?
