Chapter 3 The End Of The Opening Ceremony

As Anna and Leo hid in some bushes Leo scrolled through the shop as he mumbled "This stuff is all so expensive." Leo sighed as he said, "I won't be able to buy anything with just twenty-three points." Anna continued to peer out of the bushes as she said "There should be a few cheap abilities, although they won't be very good." Leo stopped at a cheap superpower on the list and stared at it for a moment as he asked "What kind of power is immovability?" Anna glanced at him as she said "That's the power that costs twenty-five points and will prevent the user from moving even a centimeter unless the force is so powerful that your body won't be able to withstand it." Leo sighed as he said, "So there are tons of useless abilities too." Anna nodded as she said, "Yeah so not many people bother buying that power, as well as a ton of others, although some people have found some impressive ways to use powers like that." Leo closed the menu as he said "Using a defensive skill like this is gonna make it quite difficult to fight criminals." Anna stared at him in annoyance as she said "At least you got a decent power, my power just gives me poisonous spit, luckily I can make it nonlethal, but it's still incredibly difficult to use." Leo crawled out of the bush as he said "Yeah but you've been doing this for a while, surely you have other powers right?" Anna stared at him from within the bush as she nervously said "W-well… not exactly… but I do have a good amount of points."

Leo stared at her excitedly as he said "Then why don't you buy a super good power!" Anna opened up her menu as she said "Well… with only a thousand seven hundred and forty-three points I can't exactly get the really good powers that everyone wants… so I've been saving my points up." Leo paused for a moment and said "Wait… you have over a thousand points?" Anna crawled out from the bush as she said "I've been trying to get some of the really good powers but… they're all too expensive." Leo sighed as he said, "At this rate, my motivation is gonna die." As they stood there they heard a loud explosion in the distance. Anna and Leo both looked at each other for a moment and then began to run towards the sound of the explosion as Anna said "Maybe this will be our lucky break." As they stood at the top of a hill they seen a burning building in the center of a city and a man in a strange suit running through buildings. Leo stared at the man for a moment and then said "M-maybe… we should sit this one out and let other people try to get points from this one." Anna stared at him excitedly as she said "This is perfect, there's bound to be dozens of people in danger down there, so if we go and save them we can get loads of points, all we have to do is avoid that guy and evacuate the people." Anna grabbed Leo's hand and began to lead him towards the city as she said "Come on, let's get down there before the other people get the points."

As they arrived in the now burning and partially destroyed city Leo glanced around and said "I don't think we're ready for this, what if we run into him, besides we don't even have powers that are good for a situation like this." Anna began to run off as she said "Just find people that look like they need help!" As Anna ran off Leo heard people calling for help from a nearby collapsing building and immediately rushed over. Leo quickly ran into the collapsing building as he shouted "Stay where you are, I'll be there in a minute!" As he ran through the building pieces of rubble fell from the roof and bounced off of him causing him to take a small amount of damage and get covered in debris. After searching for a short while Leo found seven people huddling inside of a small space with their exit blocked by a large piece of debris. Leo quickly rushed over to them and began to push the debris causing it to slightly move just enough for the two children among them to be able to escape. Leo continued to try and push the debris as he mumbled "Come on… hold it!" As Leo's grip slipped the rubble fell back in place blocking the other five people. Leo stared at them for a moment as a box icon appeared saying that he had gained two points for saving people had shown up in front of him. Leo stood there for a moment as he said "I'm not able to move it for very long." Leo thought for a moment and then smiled as he said "That ability actually might come in handy now that I think about it."

Leo opened the shop menu and then purchased the immobility superpower and then said "This one activates depending on my will." Leo gripped the debris once more and began to lift it as far as he could as he mumbled "Just… a little… more." Once it was just wide enough for the other five people to crawl out he shouted "Now I just have to hold it without moving from this spot!" As the five people crawled out from where they were trapped at they quickly ran off and out of the building. Once they were gone Leo dropped the debris and let out a sigh of relief as he smiled and said "Man that was exhausting." Leo wiped some sweat off of his head as he muttered "This hero thing ain't exactly easy." As Leo began to exit the building the man in the strange suit dashed through the building tackling him and began to run through walls with Leo in front of him. The man began to laugh as he said "Killing you outa reward me another point." Once outside the man stopped running causing Leo to roll across the street covered in all sorts of injuries and blood. The man stood there scrolling through his menu as he said "With this, I should be even harder to break." As Leo laid there barely breathing Thomas appeared behind the man and said "Seriously? I left you alone for less than an hour and you already got beaten within an inch of your life?" The man quickly turned around and shouted "Another one of you? It must be my lucky day!" Just as the man was about to start charging him Thomas appeared in front of him gripping his head as he said "Stop acting so tough."

The man froze from fear as he said "T-this power… it's not human." As Thomas crushed the man's skull bits of his head landed on the ground around where his body now laid. Thomas stared at Leo for a moment as he said "At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if his thick skin ability rose a level." Thomas stood over him and held his hand out as he said "This is somewhere around the hundredth kid I've had to heal so far." After a few moments, Leo let out a cough and then quickly stood up as he shouted "The crazy man!" Thomas stood there for a moment and then said "Yeah… no." Thomas stared at him for a moment and then said "I dealt with the villain, just go around helping the people so you can get more points." Leo stared at the body of the man as he asked "W-what happened to him?" Thomas glanced at it as he said, "I killed it, since it's not a real person, it doesn't really matter, in fact, he'll come back in about an hour and continue the same cycle… minus throwing you through a few walls of course." As they stood there an alarm went off and then a loud voice shouted, "The opening ceremony is now over, please stand by and prepare to be brought back to your previous location, if you have any serious injuries please see the administrator, the man with the fox tail who was giving the speech an hour ago."

Thomas stared at Leo as he said "Looks like it's finally over." As they all appeared back inside the large building Thomas stood on the stage holding the microphone once more as he said "And that concludes our opening ceremony, as the announcement said, please come to me if you have any serious injuries, and as for the rest of you the actual school part of this starts tomorrow, so you should all head back to your dorms get washed up and prepare for your first day of learning. Thomas held the microphone out in front of him and dropped it as he began to walk away and mumbled "I should've got someone to stand in for me today." As he walked away Leo and Anna followed closely behind him as they both thanked him for helping them during the opening ceremony. Thomas glanced at them for a moment and said "Sure… anyway be sure to get some rest for class tomorrow." As they stopped following him Anna and Leo stared at each other for a moment then Anna said "I believe you were in the same class as me!" Leo stared at her for a moment as he said, "Really? But your a second year?" Anna nodded as she said "Yeah… but they mostly separate the classes by ability, the school isn't entirely experience based but that is often the reason he'll ask fourth years for help."
