The Ogre General

As I landed in front of the ogre general, the ground below my feet crumbled into shorter pieces of stone. I looked back and spoke, "Bringing all of you here wasn't a wise choice. Leave now."

The 5 that were left, obeyed my orders without hesitation. Two of them began dragging the corpses of their dead team mates, possibly, to bury them later. I ignored their actions and turned back to face the ogre general.

The ogre general landed a punch on the top of my head. I sunk deep into the ground. The only part visible above ground, was my upper body. My head started to bleed, yet I felt no pain. This punch was just what I needed to get back on track.

I began to walk closer towards the ogre general. I moved my waist and slowly began moving my leg. As my knee scrapped through the ground, I started rising up. Walking through the ground felt like I was walking through water.

The ogre general proceeded, by trying to step on me. When his feet was directly above my head, I plunged high into the sky. I had passed through his leg, creating a hole. I was now in midair, standing right in front of the ogre's face. Before the ogre general felt the pain, I landed a left hook, decapitating his head through sheer force.

The ogre's head fell to the side, and his body stood still for a moment. After a few seconds, his body fell sideways. On the other side of the rift, 20 ogres stood. They had managed to prevent themselves from falling into the wide crack. Looking at the death of their leader, they began running away in fear.

I leapt once more, and covered the distance of the rift. I then proceeded to chase the running ogres. Each and every ogre was unguarded. I jumped on to the shoulder of the ogre that was the slowest. I swung my leg to kick his head. A loud thud was heard. My kick created a dent in the back of the ogre's head. The ogre died on the spot.

By the time this ogre had fallen, his brethren had ran a considerable distance. I chased them once again, to kill the second slowest ogre. I jumped on the shoulder of this ogre as well. Similar to the previous ogre, he was too concentrated on running and hence, died easily. By the time the second ogre fell, most of them had escaped.

Instead of chasing them further, I decided to close the portal. I witnessed the ogres run back to their portal, and walked back up to my apartment. On reaching there, I saw terrified faces. The boy was still calm, but the rest sat on the dinning table, presumably, cursing themselves for not saving their friends.

I walked into the kitchen, and drank the rest of my soda. While walking back to the living room with another bottle in my hand, I spoke,

"You're going to be seeing events like these on a daily basis."

I sat on the couch and continued, "There'll be times when you'd wish you did something else, there'll be times when you'd nearly die. But know, that after whatever you did at the end of the day, you survived. You survived because of the action you took, and that's all that's important."

I gulped down the whole bottle of soda, and sighed. The others didn't dare to speak. They stayed mum for quite some time. I gave them time and allowed them to think about the journey then had progressed on. I walked into one of the three bedrooms and slept.

Meanwhile, the 5 of them were busy burying their friends. It took them about an hour to perform the final rites, after which they walked back up to the apartment. I woke up in about an hour later, and sat down on a chair of the dining table.

"So, where did you bury them?"

The young girl replied in a frail voice, "In the garden of a vacant church."

I stretched while cracking a few bones in my hand. "I suppose now would be a good time for introductions. Each and every one of you, state your names."

I knew that in such a state, acting joyful was impossible. And of all things, this was the worst time to introduce ourselves. We could've scheduled this for later, but without obtaining significant information about one another, we would fail to work together.

The old man who was nearly my age, spoke, "My name's Lee. I came here on a trip. My family died along the way."

The room was silent for a while. Afterwards, the young oppa-calling girl spoke while looking blank. "My name is Yun-Hee. While running away from the monsters, I got separated from my parents."

The teen with the glasses immediately spoke, "My name's Myung-Dae. I was in college when the portals opened. When I walked back home, my house was crushed."

After that, the child spoke, "My name's Min-Jun. I was riding a bicycle outside, and the portals opened. Then I kinda got lost."

The shy girl spoke in the end. "My name is S..S..Sarah. My friends and I had gone to watch a movie, they died as we exited the theatre. Then Uncle Lee saved me."

To end our discussion, I spoke, "Well, some of your names are too complicated. Instead of your original names, from now on, use the names that I give you."

I paused for a second and continued, "From now on, Yun-Hee will be called Lotus. Min-Jun would be called Sharp. And Myung-Dae will be called Right. As for you Lee, you can chose any name you find fit."

Lee replied, "I think Lee would do just fine."

After introducing ourselves, Lotus made a few omelettes with the eggs in the fridge. We ate a few fruits as well, and ended our tedious day. Right slept on the couch and Lee slept in one of the rooms. The two girls slept in another room adjacent to mine, and I kept guard for the night.

A few days later, I would have to enter the ogre's portal. I decided to walk down and observe the situation in the middle of the night.

The names assigned to the members of the group are similar to the meaning of their Korean names.
