Allies, Part 2

Though what was more frightening was the fact that the temporary buff I received, was from this child.

WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD THE SYSTEM GIVE THIS LEVEL OF POWER TO A CHILD?!! WHY??

If the child was telling the truth, he had the power of a level 3 hero. And to be a level 3 healer was beyond just rare, back in the beta realm, they only had one of those in the entire world. Nonetheless, he did heal me back there.

To confirm the child's statement, I asked the crowd, "Did anyone witness this child's power?"

The same old man from before, spoke, "I was on the verge of dying yesterday, this kid saved me then."

The old man wore a white shirt, a blue tie, and beige pants. His eyes were blue, and he had a crew cut. The old man was about 5 feet and 7 inches tall and looked as if he trained everyday. He had a french beard that encircled his mouth and a tan complexion that enhanced his facial features. All his hair was white, but he didn't look that old. While noticing his figure properly, I was certain he was around 40 years old.

After looking at the man, I realised that he wasn't as old as I had previously thought. The white hair did catch me off guard though; every time I had a glimpse of him.

I put my hand on my chin while replying, "I see."

While putting my hand on my chin, I noticed that my beard was gone. It wasn't much of a big deal, and I shrugged it away thinking it was necessary for the medical operation. Plus, I hadn't grown my beard that large anyways.

I continued speaking while looking at the crowd, "As I was saying before, heroes are divided into 3 classes; Warriors, Mages, and Healers. However, there are 2 sub classes in each of these categories. A Warrior, may be a Brawler, a person that commits to barehanded combat, or a Weaponiser, who fights using a weapon. As for a Mage, they are divided into Wizards, who use MP during combat and Buffers, who can buff up any stat. Remember, a buffer doesn't fight, he or she only stands on the sidelines and enhances the team. A buffer is the weakest of all, however, without a buffer, the chances of success during a mission substantially decrease."

After listening keenly the girl questioned, "But oppa, what is MP and what is a stat?"

Instead of thinking wrongly, my mind was busy sorting all the information I had retained since the past 20 years. I replied, "Stats show your status. For example, a stat can denote your strength, your intellect, etc. They express your strengths and weaknesses to some extent. Instead of telling you more about it, I'll show you. Say the words, status open."

Everyone in the crowd resonated, "Status open."

The child spoke, "Woah! I can see a screen!" The others were busy sharing their stats with each other.

Meanwhile, a shy girl from the crowd spoke, "M..m..mister...I can't see anything..."

The shy girl was approximately 4 feet and 10 inches. She wore a pink sweater that almost bathed in blood, and really short denim shorts. She had beautiful green eyes and short black hair up till her shoulder. She crumpled her hands together in front of her lips and stood in her position.

I replied, "Well, that's alright. You don't need to be a hero to fight; I myself, fought for decades without the use of the system."

The girl blushed while saying, "O..O..Ok..."

I turned to face the crowd of people. "We shall discuss further matters some place else. It wouldn't be wise to disturb the hospital any further. I'll be buying an apartment in town right this moment; we'll have an apt conversation there."

I searched across town for an apt apartment. No monsters were spotted during this time. Most buildings were damaged, either from the base, or were skimmed from the top. Some buildings had fallen, which were blocking roads and had previously crushed a few humans. A few people were out on the streets, mourning. The old man looked down and prevented his emotions from controlling him. Meanwhile, the shy girl now had tears in her eyes. A few people from the crowd were consoling her, yet I ignored her sentiment, and moved forward.

After about an hour, I found a man willing to sell his apartment. Obviously, the apartment was well furnished. The man wanted to get out of town to escape to a deserted place. Without asking him the reason why, I gave him two gold coins for buying his apartment as he left.

The apartment was on the eighth floor of a 11 storey building. The flat contained three bedrooms, a kitchen and 2 bathrooms. The top floor of the building was run-down but the other floors remained intact.

The house was well furnished, with a 6-seat wooden dining table, a television, and a couch present in front of the television. All of us settled in the house. Some, were seated on the couch, while others sat down on the dining table with me. As for the others, they stood while looking towards me.

I spoke, "You might be new to this, but you've managed to slay monsters. So tell me, how many have you slain and what did they look like."

While seated on a chair, the old man spoke across the table. "We slayed 7 black coloured hounds, 35 small green beings and 12 skeletons."

"And during this entire time, you didn't slay a single ogre?"

"And what's that?" asked the old man.

Before I could explain, a teenager that was standing, spoke up. "Ogres are big bellied green giants with two small tusks."

He paused for a moment and look towards me. "And no. We haven't seen them since the day the portals opened."

The teen was 5 feet 8, and had hair that partially covered his forehead. He wore black glasses, a grey loose shirt and black shorts that covered his knees. He wore orange sandals and a black digital watch.

"Then we better get prepared for what's coming."

Before I could complete speaking, the ground rumbled.
