"Life…what a fickle thing it is…"

He let go of the book, and watches on with a smile as it falls…and falls…and falls, till he couldn't see it anymore.

Then he stands up, his feet firm on the tower of steel and his back straight even as tumultuous winds threaten to topple him…

"Yeah, why take life seriously? We're all gonna die anyway…"

He looks up, staring at the starry sky, before catching a glimpse of the moon, making him smile.

"Hey there, old friend, how are you this fine chilly night?"

"It's been a while since I last talked to you, hasn't it? Too long, in fact."

"You've always been a great friend to me, old friend, always there to hear what I have to say, never rebuking me, never leaving me…well, other than once every fortnight. But even then, when you are invisible to all, I alone could feel you watching over me…"

"Just like you always have…my very first sight was you, half hidden in clouds, obscured by smoke, yet shining dimly, never truly disappearing…"

He flashes one last smirk towards the moon, and the sun he couldn't see.

"So long, old friends!"

And then he falls…

And falls…

And falls…

Till he could no longer be seen, not by moon above, nor by the sun peaking through the horizon…

Indeed, for that day, something strange occurred in the world…

As the sun rose to the sky even as the moon remained firmly rooted above…

As though the both of them were seeing someone off…
