The New Red Pt. 3

Y/N: Again!

Debra screamed in frustration as she charged right back into the obstacle course only to be thrown right back out.

Debra: What the hell?!

She charged back in before, once again, getting beat. You sighed while Tim just chuckled.

Tim: She does know there's like 8 areas right?

Debra sat up as you turned off the course. You and Tim both approached her as it returned under the floor. She blew a stray strain of hair out of her face in frustration.

Debra: This sucks. Why is it so hard?

Tim shrugged.

Tim: Cause the bad guys don't care?

Y/N: You'll get it down eventually. Trust me it takes some time. Let's just move on to sparing.

Debra followed you two to the mat and sat on the bench while you and Tim showed her some basic moves.

Y/N: Then you can either hook your arm around his neck or his arm. If he has a gun or any other weapon, go for the arm.

Tim: Also remember to check their footing. Could cost you.

You let Tim go and allowed Debra to try. She quickly did the move and knocked Tim down.

Debra: I did it!

You smiled. She had been working her hardest for the past few days. With you and Tim over looking her training, she had made leaps and bounds. Except on the course. That was still a long ways to go.

Y/N: Ok, that'll be all for today. The rest of the afternoon is off.

Tim smiled as he grabbed his towel and rushed up the stairs, probably to get back to his work, while Debra walked over to you.

Debra: Why doesn't he ever spend time with Stephanie?

Y/N: He does. He just gets caught up in his work.

Debra looked around and whistled.

Debra: Sooooo, how are things with you and Helena? You guys haven't had a date in a while.

Y/N: She's doing some work in Metropolis. Besides that we're as close as ever.

Debra: Have you guys ever, you know?

You raised a brow.

Y/N: I don't think I do.

Debra: Well, have you guys....

She made an o with one hand and used her index finger to simulate OHYOUGETITNOW!

Y/N: U-uh. I don't know what to say about that really!

Debra: It's a simple yes or no question.

Y/N: N-no. We haven't done that yet.

Debra: You both have been dating for 5 months.

Y/N: So?

Debra: Are you still a virgin?

Y/N: NO I'M NOT A VIRGIN!

Stephanie: Uh....

You both turned to see Stephanie standing there with a very disturbed face.

Stephanie: What did I just walk in on?

Y/N/Debra: Nothing!

Stephanie: Alright then.

She walked towards you.

Stephanie: Do you have time to talk?

You nodded and the two of you just stood their in silence before turning to Debra who was just looking at you both.

Debra: Oh. Alone. I'll just be, upstairs, reading, or something.

She stood there for a bit longer before skipping away up the stairs. You turned back to Stephanie who was frowning.

Stephanie: Maybe we should go somewhere else. I just remembered Bruce has the place bugged.

Y/N: Why does he have the cave bugged? Actually you know what? Forget I asked.-------You ended up in the same diner you and Helena went to on your "first" date. It was debatable since you argued you weren't dating at the time but Helena insists. Anyway, back to the story.

Y/N: So what's on your mind kiddo?

Stephanie snorted.

Stephanie: Shouldn't I be calling you kiddo? I am older than you by a couple decades.

Y/N: Potato whatever.

Stephanie: That's not the right saying for this.

Y/N: I think you missed the "whatever" part.

Stephanie laughed.

Y/N: For real though, what's up? You seemed like something's bothering you.

Stephanie sighed as she stured her drink around.

Stephanie: It's, Tim. I know this might sound weird but me and him have been, I guess, going through a rough patch. He just seemed so distant and I asked him about it and we started fighting.

You raised an eyebrow at this. They seemed just fine the other day. You don't even recall there being a fight.

Y/N: That's rough. What happened?

Stephanie: Well it all started when I asked if he wanted to go out. He said he was working on something but then I found out that he was talking to "Miss Martian" about something. I ask him what it was and he just got all defensive. Of course my head ran through some possibilities but I trust him and I never accused him of anything. He got really mad and kicked me out of his room. He's been keeping his distance ever since.

Ok. What do you say in this situation? Honestly you never had to help a girl with boyfriend problems before. This was difficult. Before you could offer advice she continued.

Stephanie: Then after he came by to tell you Debra wanted to talk the other day he said we were getting close but the way he said it he sounded jealous. I asked him what it was about and we ended up fighting because he thinks I'm  "falling for you" or whatever. It's so stupid.

You tried to speak up but she kept going.

Stephanie: Like I'm the one who would cheat! I never said anything but he was implying it so hard it actually, it made me cry. I ran to my room and cried. That's why I didn't want to talk that day. I don't know what to do.

You were now silent. You were now in a tough situation where what you say can either save or break this relationship. You had to think fast. Suddenly, you had an idea. You stopped a waitress.

Y/N: Hey, can we get two orders of waffles?

Stephanie looked at you confused. You told her to wait.

Y/N: Trust me. It's something Booster of all people taught me.

The waitress came back with two plates of Belgium Waffles and set them in front of you and Stephanie.

Stephanie: So, what's the point of these.

Y/N: Well you see Steph my dear, a relationship is a lot like a waffle.

She started to laugh as you smiled.

Stephanie: Please explain. I'm dying to hear this.

You grabbed a butter knife and pointed it at the waffle.

Y/N: A waffle, much like a relationship, is difficult to take whole. Some people can do it all at once sure but most just need to break it down. You can see the knife as you. Like the metaphorical you.

You cut it in half.

Y/N: When you split the waffle up in two, you have two halves of a whole. This can be seen as the two people in the relationship. You both have two parts. Yourself and the relationship. You are your own person but you also have the relationship with you.

You looked at the waffle.

Y/N: You can either choose to accept that you have two slices you need to eat at once or you can....

You cut the two pieces into four.

Y/N: Break it down again to better digest it. There's nothing wrong with it. Sometimes you just need a break to breath and think. See things from a new angle.

Stephanie looked at the waffle with amazement. She looked at you then back at the waffle.

Stephanie: I hate you for making sense with a damn waffle metaphor.

She held her head in her hands as she laughed slightly. You just smiled as you took a bite out of your waffle.

Y/N: Glad that makes sense cause it took me a few times.

Stephanie: No no no I get it. Sometimes you just need to cut it up into small digestible bites. I've been seeing everything at face value.

Y/N: Wait, no. I was saying you have your own stuff and Tim has his. You both need to be able to do your own thing.

Stephanie: That's what you were saying? I thought it was saying I needed to step back.

Y/N: No, I mean that to. Just trust him. Trust is important. Take a step back and trust him. Take a break maybe. Nothing permanent just long enough for things to calm down.

She gave it some thought before groaning.

Stephanie: I thought you made sense. Should I really break up with him?

Y/N: I'm not saying yes or no to that. That's up to you.

Stephanie looked at the table and nodded.

Stephanie: Ok then. I'm going to break up with him. Just for some time. Long enough to figure things out.

Y/N: And I will fully support you. I'm not choosing sides but I support you.

She smiled but just then a bright light shined into the diner. Both of you looked to find people running down the street.

Y/N: Looks like we should check that out.

Stephanie: Definitely should. Let's go.

The two of you slammed down the money on the table then rushed out to action.
