Chapter 5

Startled, Kamiko sprang back up to her feet leaving the note at the ground next to her shoes. Her grandmother whom she hasn't seen yet in her visit here came up next to her and put one of her arms around her shoulder as the older woman bent and received the letter. Kamiko was exceedingly confused by the fact that her grandma to put her at a abrupt standstill.

As she got back into the room with her family, her grandmother seemed to quickly attempt to hide the letter somewhat sneakily, though Kamiko still noticed every movement that she had made. Her vision seemed to change, she didn't know exactly how, more vivid maybe? Or maybe it was just clearness that had adjusted. Either way it all seemed strange and paranormal to her. She had taken out the contact she had in the second that she got upstairs to the bathroom next to her room. For the first time since her younger age, she could see perfectly. Disbelievingly, she had returned to her bedroom and unfolded her laptop while sitting down at her desk next to the now-dimming window. She searched "eye tests" images and continued to be amazed. Running down the stairs she yelled, "Grandpa, grandma, guess what?"

The male grunted and turned from the desk that he was working at next to a the colorful and disorganized shelf. "Oh hey, Kami-chan, what's up?" He questioned.

She was about to tell him, but realized that her grandma wasn't near by again. This whole thing with her was awfully confusing for Kamiko and she decided to hold off until she found her.

"Oh, nothing, never mind... Do you know where grandmother is?" He seemed somewhat flustered by this inquiry and thought for a moment before replying to her.

"Well you know, I'm not really sure. I thought that she said something about-" He had stopped himself in the middle of his statement the continued, "about going to the store, we were running low on our supply of rice and wanted to get some to make a nice dinner to celebrate your safe arrival tonight." It seemed almost like a question, though. As if it was information that which was new to him and he was forcing himself to believe it and go through reciting it. Kamiko was weirded out and didn't think that it would help her at all if she stuck around so was ready to go on outside. "Oh, well that's okay, I guess. I'll be on my way, now. I'd like to get a good look at the town before sunset settles in too much."

"No! Uhh, you're grandmother said not to let you go outside... I think." Okay now Kamiko was really spooked.

She acted as if she didn't hear him and went out with a greater speed than she had originally planned on. She got out the doors and everything that was once light went dark. The second she reopened her eyes she hoped for it to disappear but everything was still the same as it was moments ago. Everything that had any sort of color had inverted to the opposite of the beauty it had shown her, and into a hellish abyss of mystery. Not knowing what to do, she ran down the long, dark street with tears evidentially coming up in her eyes. She continued with her eyes closed from fear of what they may see on her way to an unknown and possibly menacing creatures that she may subconsciously bring her eyes upon.
