Kiss From Death

Death itself was a God. A dark God believed to be responsible for all misfortunes, seeks vengeance from its counterpart, the famous Goddess herself, Life. A single but forbidden kiss thousands of years ago between both Gods, the price of that kiss was paid by their favorite creation; mankind. Sea monsters, the dark hole, and other abominations crawled out from their sleep to eat and destroy whatever Life and Death created. While Life remained seated on her high throne obsessing over the attention she was getting from her creation, Death walked the earth fighting monsters, answering the prayers never dedicated to him in secret, and growing his powers to destroy Life and restore what was stolen from him. What he didn't expect was to be attached to a human who aroused his interest and had the same face as his nemesis.

Death stood by a car parked in front of the pizza restaurant waiting for Ha-Yun.

Ha-Yun was done for the day. She was in the backroom changing from her uniform to the clothes she wore from home. She was in a hurry because someone very important was waiting for her. She made him promise to wait. And Gods don't break promises.

Rose came inside the moment she picked up her bag and she planted herself in front of Ha-Yun before she could escape and grinned. Ha-Yun moved left and Rose followed. She stepped right and Rose mimicked, blocking her path again.

Ha-Yun cocked an eyebrow at Rose when she didn't budge.

''What are you doing?''

''Is that your cousin waiting outside for you?''

Ha-Yun mushed her lips together in regret. Sang-tae must have told everyone.

''Y...es?'' Her answer felt like a question which made Rose a little unsure but she waved it off and proceeded to why she cornered Ha-Yun in the backroom.

''Wow! Did he fall from heaven or something? He looks so unreal..and...and...oh my god is he gorgeous!''

Ha-Yun swallowed, ''Yes...he is.'' she quickly sidestepped Rose to leave but Rose was faster to block her again.

''Sorry.'' She apologized when Ha-Yun gave her a disbelieving look. ''I just want to know if he is single. I have a sister who would love to meet with him.''

''Uh...he is not...''

''She has been single since her last breakup in high school.''

''That's so sad, but...''

''I can picture both of them walking side by side going on dates...''

Ha-Yun parted her lips in shock.

''Taking cute selfies, eating together, going to rock concerts, and even seeing the latest movie together in cinemas!'' Rose bounced with her hands clasped together dreamily. ''It would be perfect if we set them up, right?''

Ha-Yun shook her head in disagreement.

But Rose was high on fantasy about her little sister and Ha-Yun's drop-dead cousin giggling to each other under the bright sun and so in love. Ha-Yun was a little bit enraged and she felt like snapping her out from whatever...she was dreaming about.

She wanted to end this! The look on Rose's face...she knew what it was. And it made her so uneasy.

''He is already married!'' She blurted out without thinking twice. But Ha-Yun didn't care as long as that discouraged Rose from setting him up with someone else.

She felt so greedy all of a sudden.

''What?'' Rose was beyond shock.

''With three kids. I am sure setting him up with another person would be a bad idea.''

'Back off. He's mine.'

''Oh.'' Rose then sighed in disappointment. ''Forgive me for even bringing that up...I swear if I had any idea that he is married I wouldn't have...''

''It's alright. I understand. No need to apologize...I'll be going home now. My best friend would be worried if I am not back early, bye!'' She smiled and ran out of the backroom as fast as she could.

Ha-Yun was beyond pleased to see Death waiting for her that she took her time checking how she looked and strolled toward him.

''I knew it!'' Death turned to face her. ''Gods don't break their promise! I am so happy that you waited! Now I can walk home feeling...'' Ha-Yun searched for one big word in her head to describe how safe she always felt when he was with her but gave up when her brain reminded her that she was not vast with big words. So she settled for something simple. ''...like I should go home with my eyes closed and nothing bad will happen to me while you are with me.'' she punctuated with another one of her signature smiles.

Death wanted to believe that she was exaggerating. She couldn't trust him with her safety just like that, right? Is she foolish or just trying to make him feel special? Or just knocking out a few monsters while watching that impressive enough to cling onto him for protection?

Or...is she just too weird?

Death didn't realize that he was smiling when he came close to her. ''Don't ever try that.''

''What?'' She asked.

''Walking home with your eyes closed thinking nothing bad would happen to you.''

''Why?''

Okay, she's just weird... Death was close to concluding.

''When you will always be with me? I can even say hello or blow a kiss to a gathering of monsters if I should see one.''

Death parted his lips an inch in surprise. She just trusted him. His lips curled into a smile. The first human to trust him this much throughout his time as a God. His only true fan. And her smile is just too sincere when in front of him.

'Hold on.'

Death tilted his head a little bit.

'Am I..really...making the same mistake again? Am I going to let myself fall for that same...face once more? Is the pain worth being endured all over again?'

She closed the gap between them and grabbed his hand like she likes to do. ''Let's go.'' And they began to move forward. He never missed noticing how he felt when she held his hands.

After a while, Death decided to ask her this mild but bugging question in him. ''You said...always be with me? What does that mean?'' He gently asked.

Ha-Yun stopped walking to stare at his face. She also didn't understand why she said always be with me. But why is he bothered by that? Will he be leaving her world soon to his? Sometimes she forgets that he is not human like her but a God. And a powerful one. He is only here to get rid of the monsters on the streets and go back to wherever he came from.

''I had a dream some time ago of an angel covered in dark clothes from head to toe and spoiled with beauty always walking me home every night, staying by my side and never leaving me even if it was for a second. I was this precious to him.''

Liar. Death smiled again. She has forgotten once again that he was a God and he could smell a lie if he wanted to. That so-called dream of hers, happened that moment. Her eyes gave away her desperation to keep him by her side.

But why?

He was beyond mystified by this human.

Death suddenly felt like all this was worth it. There is a big difference between both of them even though they looked the same. She was nothing but an insensitive and wicked goddess that took advantage of him but Ha-Yun is...a human. An interesting one that he couldn't figure out in a day! She was able to make him smile while his heart was heavy with burden. Made him realize that he could have fun regardless of who he was. And she stylishly called him an angel wearing dark clothes. She is very interesting to him.

It should be worth it.

''Would you like that dream of yours to come true?''

''Yes!'' She tightened her hold on his hand.

Death fell silent in hopes of torturing her with suspense. And it worked. Badly!

Would he give in to her demands or not?

Ha-Yun might have appeared calm but she was a nervous mess inside.

''Let's see if I can play that angel in your dreams for a while. But I can't guarantee much.''

Ha-Yun felt like fist-bumping the air in happiness! Yes! She would get to see him regularly now! This has been the best day of her life so far that she thought of celebrating it with a drink.

One thing he loved the most and could withstand was darkness. But it felt weird even to him that he admired the way he dressed; white from head to toe.

He was hungry as well as angry.

But his anger could not be ignored than his hunger.

The monster he recently released to wreak havoc on the human world was kneeling before him. And he thought it was ridiculous of him to do since he made it clear that he was not his master or anything close to that. He is just another wronged soul roaming the earth and gathering all sorts of monsters in the process to show his rebellion and anger.

'I would make him pay for what he did to me. The works of his hands should also suffer for his ungodly behavior towards me. They should also partake in my hatred towards that irresponsible god.'

''Did I make a grave mistake in setting you free or you just don't know what you're doing?''

The monster shook his head. ''You did not make a mistake and I know what I'm doing.''

He narrowed his blood moon eyes making them look darker and redder and stepped closer to the monster kneeling before him. The monster did not know why he shivered at the sensation that ran down his spine the moment he took a step closer to him.

The monster sensed a darker aura, the one greater than a monster from this mysterious figure and he wondered who was hiding behind the mask and using them to cause mayhem.

''But I am getting confused...bored if I should say the truth by what you are doing with that ugly flute of yours. What exactly can you do?''

The monster smiled and thought he was being impatient.

''You would know soon. Just let my flute reach a certain number of people then the fun would begin.''

''And when precisely would that happen?'' He asked pinning his blood moon eyes on the monster.

''I have currently tossed my flute in the hands of about ninety people since I began to stalk their streets. I just need the number to go a bit higher...then I'll gather all of them to me and give them a permanent break from this world.'' the monster answered and smirked.

Ha-Yun couldn't sleep. But she has a good reason to not want to fall asleep. One particular God kept occupying a large space of her thoughts! She wondered what he was doing at the moment.

Meanwhile, Death only goes to the roofs of the tall buildings of the human world when he needs to think or he is pursuing a dangerous monster and he doesn't want to be spotted by the monster. He was not even interested in the giant bird-like object that occasionally dominated the sky and flew above him to a place he later learned was an airport after flying with the strange bird in the sky for hours and sometimes a day out of curiosity. No, he did not hunt the sky with his eyes for that tonight. His entire focus was on the phone the human he found very interesting got him today.

He remembered all she taught him about this peculiar device and managed to turn it on. The picture they took together today greeted him on the home screen and he found it nice.

Buzz.

A notification popped up on the screen and he didn't know what else to do than to tap on it. It opened to a message from a number that had a familiar name beside it.

Ha-Yun.

<Congratulations! You just received your first message on new phone! And it's from me! Then a sticker of dancing teddy with halo its head followed the words. < p>

Death read the words again and again before receiving another message.

'This is going to be fun.' Death admitted in him with a smile.

<Now type something back. The message was punctuated with a smiley emoji reddened cheeks. < p>

<You can say anything to me. Feel free!< p>

Death raised an eyebrow at the message that popped under seconds later.

<Anything apart from changing your mind about being the angel in my dream that was covered black head to toe!< p>

Death chuckled slightly when his eyes read those words. He then decided to relax in his sitting position on the roof and wait.

<Do you...need an example of what to type back my messages?< p>

Death read it and waited.

Why was he waiting?

<I can't wait to see your first sticker! Let me know how you are feeling by sending one me!< p>

A...sticker? Death cocked his head to the side.

<Oh! In case you've forgotten. To invoke the keypad to see characters use type words and what you wish say, just tap on oversized rectangular section where a thin blue line keeps blinking so restless!< p>

Death stared at the message and looked at the keypad he had already invoked before she sent the message about using a sticker to let her know how he felt. But he just didn't know what to say but anticipated her next message. He wanted to read what she would say next.

Ha-Yun was lying in an upside-down position on her bed, her slender legs were crossed and facing the brown headboard of her bed. She was close to chopping off all the nails of her fingers as she 'patiently' awaited even a single reply from him. Her front was facing the ceiling and she was at the point of just calling him to hear how he sounded on the phone.

''Is he...asleep?'' She whispered to herself when she got no reply from him. ''Do Gods even sleep?''

She rolled onto her belly, her back facing the ceiling this time, the phone still in her grasp, and glaring at it.

When seconds turned to long minutes and the minutes stretched into hours with yet not a single reply from him, she dozed off.

Morning came and the soft glow from the early sun peaked through her blinders. The alarm rang the fourth time before she forced her sleepy eyes open. She moaned in protest when the alarm began to ring again. She picked off her phone, swiped it to unlock it, and put an end to that noisy alarm to sleep some more. She felt wronged for being forced to wake up this early.

Her heart jumped when she received a message from a number with the name, my angel who wears black. Funny, right?

Her eyes brushed through the last message she sent to him and she flew from the bed, if that was possible, and began to dance around the little space of her room. Her dance moves felt like kung fu and some were goofy and ridiculous.

She even swayed left and right like a princess, thinking her pajamas were a puffy ball gown.

<Oh! In case you've forgotten. To invoke the keypad to see characters use type words and what you wish say, just tap on oversized rectangular section where a thin blue line keeps blinking so restless!< p>

Ha-Yun stopped dancing and smiled at his reply.

<I know. And remembered. I don't usually forget things that easily. Your voice and the way you took your time to explain made it so hard forget.< p>

Ha-Yun fell on her bed and giggled like she had never done before.
