Kiss From Death

Death itself was a God. A dark God believed to be responsible for all misfortunes, seeks vengeance from its counterpart, the famous Goddess herself, Life. A single but forbidden kiss thousands of years ago between both Gods, the price of that kiss was paid by their favorite creation; mankind. Sea monsters, the dark hole, and other abominations crawled out from their sleep to eat and destroy whatever Life and Death created. While Life remained seated on her high throne obsessing over the attention she was getting from her creation, Death walked the earth fighting monsters, answering the prayers never dedicated to him in secret, and growing his powers to destroy Life and restore what was stolen from him. What he didn't expect was to be attached to a human who aroused his interest and had the same face as his nemesis.

She opened her wardrobe and pulled out a dress she believed would be perfect for today. In her purple bathrobe and a white towel wrapped high around her wet hair, she moved towards her tiny window to draw the curtains when her eyes fell on a familiar figure standing outside of her house. The figure brought a strange yet pleasant feeling to her and a lovely smile spread across her face.

" Would you like that dream of yours to come true?"

The smile grew bigger as she remembered him saying to her just yesterday.

"Let's see if I can play that angel in your dreams for a while. But I can't guarantee much."

She was ready in less than six minutes because someone was waiting for her outside. She grabbed her bag, picked up a ring from her small dresser table, and wore it with a mischievous grin on her face because she had something in mind and left.

Outside of her house, and a few feet away from Death, she cleared her throat multiple times that it began to hurt, straightened her clothes, and took in a deep breath before approaching the stunning God.

She smiled, "Someone didn't sleep all night because of a new phone." and teased.

Death was a bit confused before his mind did a quick flashback to all that happened yesterday. But he still didn't get what she meant by he couldn't sleep all night because of a new phone.

Ha-Yun noticed the slight confusion on his gorgeous face.

"You are here super early so I imagined your new phone kept you up all night, am I right?" She flashed him another blinding smile. The smile Death is beginning to like on her face. He acknowledged his mind recalling the point when she dragged him to a Samsung phone store and got him a new phone. The time she kept on disturbing him with numerous texts that he didn't at all find annoying. And how cute she...

He paused.

"Do you like it?"

His he...did he just...was he just inches away from thinking she was cute? His eyes hurriedly fell on her face and stared at the human smiling before him. Why is it so easy for her to smile when she is with him? He wondered.

"What?"

Ha-Yun blushed.

"The phone I got for you yesterday. Do you like it? And..." She cleared her throat once more and bit at her lips. "You now know how to reply and send people text messages very well. Hmmm, you are a fast learner and a God! A smart one."

Death didn't know what to say but give her a simple and positive reply to all her questions; yes.

Ha-Yun pushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear and looked at him once again.

"So...what are you doing here so early? Do you need something? Or...are there any monsters around this area that need to be disciplined?"

She knew why he was here. To walk her to work. But she wanted to be sure that he was here for that and meant what he said to her last night.

She wants to hear him say that to her again. The feeling, she imagined, would be good and make her feel special like before.

Death's magnetic eyes scanned her neighborhood and shrugged. "Who knows, there might be monsters lurking around and I should be on guard at all times."

Death noticed how slowly her smile dropped and was replaced with disappointment.

"So...you came here, to my house, very early in the morning to catch..." She swallowed back the remaining words with her eyes cast low to the ground. For a moment she felt embarrassed. Why does she always hope for more than what it is? Should she just tell him goodbye and leave before things get any weirder?

"But then, someone said she could blow a kiss to a gang of monsters when I'm with her and I was curious to see how that goes. So will it be a bad idea to walk with you to wherever you are heading right now and see if we'll be lucky to see a monster and..."

Ha-Yun pushed her lips forward and popped it smiling and grinning from ear to ear. Even the Almighty God, Death was amused by her act. Gradually, this human is becoming more intriguing to him each day. As usual, she was bold enough again to grab his hands and tugged him gently to her side, surprising Death once again, and began to walk down the road with Death beside her.

Once again the beautiful sun shone brightly on a small park dedicated to kindergartens and kids around their age group too. It was still very early for the park to be open for kids to come to play in it...but that didn't stop the two colored eyes, noseless figure with a wooden flute from lurking around, observing the swings and slides of the playground. He looked for the perfect place to put his flute so that the children that would come and play here would easily find it and toss it among themselves.

He grinned as the hat covering most of his hideous face shielded the sun from his face. After doing a rigorous examination of the park, he finally found the perfect spot to hide his flute and he was one hundred and one percent sure that a reckless kid would find it and the fun would begin. He just needs a few more victims before he shows what he can do to the one that freed him from his imprisonment not too long ago...and they would all fear him. He sat beside a single slide just at the back of the small park and anticipated the opening of the park.

When they arrived at Mr. Shin's pizza place, Death's hands were finally freed from her firm grip and Ha-Yun was grinning with joy inside her. She wanted to high-five the clouds if it were possible to show just how happy she was. And she couldn't stop the smile that formed on her face. She wanted to get closer to this mysterious God and be his friend if it were possible.

Or...

Even more than that.

"Unfortunately we didn't encounter any monster on our way here, If not I would have..." She closed her eyes, carried herself on her tiptoe, and leaned forward with her lips pushed forward just at the same time Death turned his neck to stare down at her due to the slight difference in their heights.

He stilled. When he came so close to her lips. The whole environment even the whole world seemed to be on hold. He took in a sharp breath at the sudden closeness.

"...blew a kiss to them like this." She completed, smiled, lowered herself back to her previous position, and opened her eyes to find Death staring at her deeply. Like he was in a trance.

Their eyes moved in Sync as they tried to understand each other. Ha-Yun is confused about why he hasn't taken his eyes off her and Death...

Well, he was forced to remember yet another painful memory by that single action of hers. Though this was her second time being that playful, this was very close. So close he thought their lips would touch. Like it did last time with her many years ago.

What would happen this time?

He took a precautionary step back with his eyes still glued on her. The dark brown hair on this human glitched to a haunting light blue hair. For another brief second again, he saw her in her.

Has she come to deceive him once more?

Are they just the same person still bent on making a fool out of him again?

Or is she using this human to get to him...

"Are you okay?"

Her soft voice brought him out of his fears and doubts and the pains of his past and the haunting light blue hair dissolved back to their usual dark brown color.

She is no longer her anymore. He noticed and he released his firm hold on his breaths slowly.

"Why?" He whispered that Ha-Yun had to listen very well to catch it.

"What?" She asked, looking even more bothered.

Death realized what he was about to do again and snapped out of it before it was too late. He wasn't going to make her feel insecure about her looks anymore just because of his problems!

He gave her a tight smile and shook his head that it was nothing.

"Are you sure? Because you looked frightened just by staring at me."

"Yes, I'm fine. And I'm sorry...for staring at you...like that." He apologized.

"I take no offense in that. You must have just been startled by me. Or did..." She gasped and looked left and right and also checked behind her. "Was there a monster behind me?" She held onto her heart for some dramatic effect and faked like she couldn't breathe.

Death only chuckled and assured her there was none.

"I think you will be safe here and I better get going now."

"Wait!" She grabbed him by his hands and stopped him from leaving. Death turned to see what was the problem.

Ha-Yun took off the ring on her finger, sighed, and schooled her face to look like she'd just realized that she made a huge mistake. Death noticed the fake look of distress on her face and decided to ask her what the issue was.

Ha-Yun squirmed with internal happiness when he fell for it.

"Oh no. I must have lost my brains for a second and wore this ring when it's against the employee's dress code in this place." She whined.

Death frowned in bewilderment. "There is a dress code for... employees?"

Ha-Yun nodded with a cute pout. Death began to ponder hard on that.

"Oh no, what should I do now? Mr. Shin could fire me for violating the dress code because of this ring." She whined further.

"Well...you could just dispose of it or something and get a new ring?" Death suggested and Ha-Yun's lips tore apart in shock.

"Do you know how expensive rings are now? I can't just toss it away and buy another one overnight." She said.

"Then...what do you think..."

"I have an idea." She smirked with eyes beaming with joy at succeeding with her plan. She gently reached out for one of his gloved hands and placed the ring gently on his palms. Death watched with curiosity as the ring slept on his palms.

"There, take it. You can keep it safe for me and bring it back right here at night. I will text you the moment I am done for the day and will be waiting to receive you here and see you again."

The thought of him not coming back to her again bugged her that she had to create or give him a reason to come back to her.

"You mean with the ring, right?"

"What? Oh. Yes, with the ring!" She cleared her throat. "Of course, with the ring, sure."

Death didn't know why he agreed to keep the ring for her but a part of him guessed maybe he just wanted to see that smile on her face once he did.

In the mansion that looks more like a haunted house, Lucy sat lazily on a chair drinking something very expensive but she was looking very bored. And thoughts of where the person her bestie has been looking for a long time now could be were giving her a throbbing headache. Her phone began to ring upstairs in her bedroom, she rolled her eyes dragged herself to stand on her red heels, and climbed the long stairs that led to her well-furnished master bedroom.

She picked up the phone and answered on the fifth ring after dropping on her queen-sized bed with a sigh.

"Hello," She answered not minding how down her voice sounded.

"Lucy?" Came a very high-pitched voice.

Lucy rolled off her giant bed when she realized who it was.

"Daki?" Her Japanese friend who relocated to Korea ten years ago.

"You thought I might be dead somewhere in Seoul that's why you didn't bother looking or asking about me, right?"

Lucy smiled at her pettiness. "Why would I bother when I know I could come straight down to hell to meet you."

"Cla-ssic."

And they both laughed.

"Are you still living in that haunted house of yours?"

"It's the most inviting of all the houses I have all across the world, dear."

"Good. Could you drop by tomorrow night at one hotel I'd rather text you the address than tell you on the phone for a little get-together. I miss you so much and I'm planning on throwing a party small enough for a hundred other rich people or more. There would also be crates of expensive wines, the type you like, shipped from Paris."

Lucy's eyes lit up at the mention of wines and being expensive. She could take anything cheap in the world but her wine must be very expensive.

She sighed, "Any dress code or we should come as we are?"

"Well, feel free to come as you are but everyone's wearing white or black. What'd you say?"

Lucy bit her lower lip when she remembered she had nothing in her closet that was white or black. She is a big fan of red. But a quick shopping with her credit card for anything white or black wouldn't hurt.

"You will see me in my glory. Just make sure you don't send me the wrong address."

"Just send it to you. And thanks for agreeing to come. Now, let's talk about other things. Do you still have that cat..."

Lucy fell back on the bed with a vivid picture of the sports car she would take to rock that small get-together party while Daki mumbled on about how pathetic it is for the devil herself to have a pet.
