Chapter 5 The Spider

At day 5 of training, New York, Rikers Island

A detective and a doctor accompanied by a group of prison guard enter an observation room of a padded cell. In it, a black man can be seen sitting in the corner wearing a straitjacket, absentmindedly looking at the wall while muttering gibberish. Seeing the man state, the detective ask the doctor, "why that man wearing a straitjacket isn't that clothes already phase out from most mental institution?" Hearing that the doctor face became helpless, "our usual sedative ineffective on that man, and yesterday he attacked one of our staff, seriously injuring him."

The detective face turns serious for a second, then nodded, accepting the doctor explanation "Can, you give me the inmate file?" The doctor takes out a folder from his coat and give it to the detective. "let, see" the detective start reading the inmate file. "Justin White, 37-year-old African American male, a petty criminal with a lot of history dealing with the cop. Apprehended last Friday night after assaulting a middle-aged Asian man, Mister Li. Four passersby got involved to help Mr. Li, resulted in one of them getting shot by the suspect, Danny Smith."

"before the incident the suspect joined an organization BL1, a hate group that stem form the BLM movement. The suspect arrested numerous times for the past few years, and each time he released on bail. The MO is always the same, he assaulted innocent people from Asian, Caucasian, and even educated African American like lawyer, doctor, etc. Originally, the suspect will stand trial and sent to a max security prison. But after some examination, the court decide he's to be unfit to stand trial and sent to Rikers Island mental institution."

as the detective and doctor busy talking the prisoner stand up and his body stared to change. A prison guard, noticing the anomaly and shout, "What the heck!" Startled by the shout, the two of them see the prisoner, finding him grows a new appendage. The detective reacted quickly, "quick, sedate him!" The prisoner straitjacket burst open, revealing his transformed body, as he turned into a half man, half spider. He now has 6 arms on each side of his body, and his head now have the characteristic of a spider.

With a deafening shriek, the spider punch the cell door, breaking it from its hinge, sending it flying and hit an officer opening the door, killing him instantly. The detective promptly hits the emergency button, activating an alarm that spreads throughout the island. Hearing that, the inmate and patient on the island goes to panic. The staff on the island quickly put all the panicking masses in their place. While the other officer patrol the island capturing any escaping inmate, with tranquilizer gun.

After wounding more officer that chasing it, the mutated prisoner successfully escape the Rikers Island correctional and mental institutions. By jumping on top of a passing ship to the shore, a search party mounted to look for the escaped prisoner. But nothing fruitful gained, just a new string of murder that suddenly appear in the city. Hearing the news, a secret organization make it moves by placing a tracker to the fleeing man and securing the last victim of the mutated prisoner.

The seventh day of training Upsilon letting me take a rest, so I take the chance to drive to the nearest town Shandaken. In town I quickly drive to their restaurant to eat because I'm sick of MRE. After eating I decide to tour around the town by walking, looking at the quiet town remind me of my hometown. Midway, Florida, unfortunately my old home sold by my parent to pay our tuition. While Liz study in New York, I study engineering in University of Florida.

Now my parent retired and choose to live in Indonesia, leaving both of us in America. As I'm reminiscing about the past without realizing it, I walk to the secluded part of town near the forest. Confused, I look around, wondering how I walk into the forest. So, I decide to go back in to the town, only to be stopped by Upsilon by speaking directly into my mind. [Lad, go in to the woods there a Daemon that moving quickly toward our location!]

Hearing the news, I quickly run deeper into the forest, while transforming, intending to ambush my enemy. After a few minute passes, as a creature resembling a spider appear standing in front of the forest. The spider stand in place while looking around something in the air, after a second it finally finds something in the air and start running deeper into the forest. While hiding under a tree covered in snow, I ask Upsilon to activate the map function using the menu in my headgear. I actually find this feature yesterday while trying out my transformation.

I track the movement of my enemy with it while slowing down my breathing, hiding my presence to strike when my enemy turn it back on me. Before long it appear on my sight the spider Daemon, so I distract him with a pebble by throwing it to the tree at the back of the spider, making snow fall from it. Distracted the spider turn its back on me, taking the chance I leap out of my hiding place and slash my sword across his back making him fall to the ground.

Before he can stand up, I thrust my sword at the fallen spider, but he dodges the attack by rolling to the side. The spider quickly stand up with a flip snarling at me, then he spit a threaded web directly at me. I parry the attack with another slash, but I find my sword stuck to the sticky thread. Seeing my sword stuck to the thread he tugs my sword, sensing the danger I quickly activate the Fire sword card, burning the thread in the process.

As it snarls at me again, I activated the card secondary effect fireball. Sensing the danger, he dodges the attack with great difficulty, grazing its shoulder, badly injuring the area. Before he can recover I rush in for an attack cutting one of his hand in the process. The spider enraged and start spitting out a barrage of concentrated ball of webs, I immediately hid behind a tree, finding its attack as strong as machine gun fire.
