Chapter 5

Eralin forest

Mike and Greg reached the Eralin forest. As a usual Greg is silent, Mike thought. He wish he first mission was with someone who he can talk. But he get trapped with someone who is always remains silent like doll and whenever he talk to him, he feel like he is talking to a rock.

"Greg, What are your thoughts about this mission?" Mike asked him.

"Nothing special." Greg replied.

Mike get annoyed by his uninterested way of speaking. Mike thought, if this mission wasn't his first trial mission he would not like to came with this type of a person. He tries to focus his mind on his mission and thought

Oxton City

Order of knights City quarters

A facility in the Oxton City where young people who got passed the Knight Order Exam trained to become a knight. The facility also serves as storage of important documents in the Order. A room in the dormitory section with number "0987". A person came from the hallway and enter the room. "Mike, chief inspector is calling you." Mike turned around and asked, "Why is he calling me? Sarah"

"I don't known. Instructor Gideon asked me to info you thus." replied Sarah.

"God dammit" Mike mumbled as he left the room.

As he went to the Inspector Office, he see some fellow knight who just graduated as he was and heard speak about some mission. Mike reached a room with name,"CHEIF INSPECTOR". He knocked the door slightly and asked politely, " May I Come, Sir."

"Yes, come in" a loud voice come from the room. Mike entered the room. "Mike Lauringh" A man  sitting in the chair in the room called him. He give him respectful bow. There where three people in the room,. Chief Inspector, Instructor Gideon, and a graduate knight.

"Yes sir" Mike replied.

"This is Greg Heartfile." As Instructor Gideon introduced the graduate boy to him he continued, " Today we called you here for your first mission. Two of you will doing it cooperatively. "As he completed his speak he give them a paper.

"Ok, you can depart today and complete your mission." Speak the Cheif Inspector. They left the room after they bow their head and show respect to two officers.

Mike and Greg return to their respective room for prepare for their mission. As Mike reached his room, he read the mission paper. The mission about to capture a Centurion in Eralin forest which is locat Northeast of the Loton town.

Centurion is a six legged D rank beast which appearance is similiar to battle horse which is used as a common way of  transport. Centurion is mainly used by high rank officials and nobles as their ride. Mike recalled the details of the beast that he learned.

Mike finished his preparation and his room. As he left the dormitory building he saw Greg who finished his preparation also. Mike wave his hand but Greg doesn't respond. Mike introduced himself to him. Greg replied emotionlessly "I am Greg."

Mike tried to start a conversation with him but Greg's uninterested replies made him annoyed. Two of them left the quarters to Eralin forest.

Mike and Greg entered the forest.

Eralin Forest is divided into three section, outer, middle and inner.

Outer section contain beast from F to D ranked , Middle section contain D to B ranked and Inner section contain C to A ranked.

Centurion usually found in the middle section of the Eralin forest. Sometimes they luckily found at the innermost part of the outer section.

The two of them carefully inspected the outer section of the forest. They walked around half a hour in the forest. They encountered various beast but couldn't find the Centurion. Mike tell Greg to rest sometime and countinue their journey. Two of them sit down under a tree. After resting they continue their investigation.

Suddenly the ground began to shake. Two of them became alert and observe the surrounding carefully but they couldn't find the source of it. The earthquake made them unable to move around and two of them fell down to the ground. Suddenly the ground became stable and Mike felt relieved. Some tree around the area fall down due to the shock of the earthquake.  They stand up from the ground and observe the area.

Mike thought what was the cause of the earthquake. As he was observing the surrounding, unexpectedly the ground cracked and a giant serpentine beast came from the crack devoured Greg. Mike was shocked by the death of Greg. His eye fill with the despair of his helplessness that he couldn't protect his friend. After devouring it meal, the beast rushed to Mike with it mouth wide open. But Mike compressed a white light into a sphere in his left hand and shoot it on it face. The beast tries to evade it but the sphere hit it right eye. The power of the sphere was low but it manage to damage it eye. The beast hiss in pain and hit Mike with it tail.

Mike waas thrown away by the hit by the serpentine beast. His body smashed on a tree nearby. The beast cried in agony and tried to attack him again. Mike regain his composure and drawn his sword.

The beast attacked him and he dodged it attack. Mike slashed it body but its hard black scales barely get a slash. The tail of the beast grabbed him and throw his up in the air. The serpent opened it mouth towards Mike who is in the air. Mike channel his mana into his sword and the sword shines brightly which disturbed the beast's vision and it closed it's mouth. Mike throws his shining sword into the injured eye of it. The sword penetrated the eyeball and reached the brain and a big blast occured shattering the half of it's head. Mike fell to the ground and he become unconscious.
