He glared back.

“And you didn’t tell me.”

“When had there been time to talk about the cat?”

“I know, but you’ve been home for hours now. I looked like a fool when she tried to pay me while apologizing for not coming earlier. She talked and talked about how she’d had to take the kitty to the vet and how we’d closed before she could get here. I had no idea you’d found it.”

Archie shrugged and walked with her down to the counter where she’d poured herself a cup of coffee. Her long chocolate-brown hair was fixed in a professional looking updo and her blouse a pleasant army green color that for once didn’t hurt his eyes. “You look lovely.”

She scowled at him.

“When did the power come back on?” He reached for a cup.

“Yesterday evening, shortly before you arrived.”

He hummed and poured some coffee.

“Are we gonna talk about it?” She crossed her arms over her chest.

“About?”
