He slid into the driver’s seat, tapped his pinkie, and cursed. There was no time for finger tapping now, so he started the car and tapped while driving. It wasn’t how it was supposed to be done, but he figured the universe would understand if he slipped in the routine this one time.

Driving wasn’t something he was used to. Luckily there wasn’t much traffic in the early morning hours, and after a while, the fear for Gael’s life overtook the fear of crashing the car. He pushed down the gas pedal as far as it would go and kept both hands on the steering wheel as the world swished by. He didn’t stop, not even when the ghost hand wanted him to find something.

The rain drummed against the windshield, making it impossible to see what was in front of him, but Archie didn’t care. He kept to his side of the road and hoped no one, animal or person, would decide to cross it.
