Chapter 18

“Archie, honey?”

“Shh, Gael, I’m driving.”

Almost at least. “Yeah, you might want to go a little faster.”

“No.”

“Perhaps I should drive.” Despite Archie not looking at him, Gael could tell he was wearing his impassive face.

“We can’t risk it. What if you start bleeding or collapse?”

True, but if they went at this pace, Gael would be dead before they were halfway to Adriel. If she even were by the Upper South Circle.

Archie hit the brakes, and Gael slammed his palms on the glovebox to slow the momentum. Wide hazel eyes turned his way. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, sure, but you shouldn’t stop on the freeway.”

“But how’s your head?”

“I’m fine, Arch.” Perhaps not fine, but he wasn’t bleeding.

“You can’t call me that.”

“Babe, please drive, unless you want us to switch.” Gael glanced in the rearview mirror, not seeing any lights, but standing still on a freeway was dangerous. He’d be fine, but Archie was…fragile. Not that he’d tell him so.
