A Car ~ 24

CHAPTER 24

The working day sped by with my new phone. I was practically glued to it, but I did as I was asked so I couldn't get in trouble.

Our manager let us leave work an hour earlier because of the times changing and how dark it was getting for us to walk home in.

It made a difference being able to see what was around me when I walked that same path I had walked atleast fifty times.

"Its nice of your boss to let you leave at sunset instead of dark" I said thoughtfully as I looked at all the trees and plants and the beach too.

"Yeah, she is a bit lenient on me 'cuz she knows don't have a car" Amelia looked down at her feet as she kicked around a small rock.

I watched the stone go back and fourth between her shoes as we walked, up until we turned the corner to her culdesac and the rock skipped into the road and camouflaged itself with its fellow, grey companions.

What she said made me think about cars.

I made it my mission to save up my money from working at the café and buy Amelia a car, afterall, she is letting me live in her house and eat her food and sleep in her bed.

After we had gotten home and settled I went on my new phone and checked my balance. (we had hooked my new credit card up to my phone) and I set my budget before google searching cars for sale.

I had to pick a good one...

When I finally found the right car under my budget I had to go and pick it up. (I still had my drivers licence from before the coma).

I checked the bus times and sped for the front door when Amelia called. "where are you off to?" She yelled from the kitchen.

"Just for wander along the beaches." I yelled back. I felt bad for lying but she'd love it.

I ran down the street and hoped on the quickest bus to where I needed to get to.

The bus journey was a 5 minute long drive and as soon as I stepped off, I saw it. The beauty I had been saving up for. A reasonably large Range Rover™ in the colour bluey - grey.

I handed the cash to the man on the front lawn with the car and he chucked me the keys.

It surged a wave of power through me, holding the keys.

I drove home, back to Amelia. I hoped she would like the car. I knew she didn't like a showy car but not a crappy one either.

I honked the horn outside of our house and she peeked around the door.

"So? What do you think?" I said nervously poking my head out of the window.

Her mouth was agape. I hopped down and out and walked face to face with Amelia. I pulled her hands and held them in front of us.

"It's for you!" I smiled. Amelia started stuttering.

"Thank you!!" She burst into tears and squeezes me in her embrace.

"Take it for a spin before dark, ill make dinner." I said softly staring into her eyes glittered with tears.

Amelia grabbed the keys and ran into the car, before I knew it, I was making dinner. (Amelia had gotten her drivers licence years before. She just could afford the car)

Half an hour later, Amelia bursts in.

"Thank you Damien! How did you afford it? How much do I owe you!?" she fired questions at me, left, right and centre.

"calm down!" I laughed.

"You don't owe me anything and I payed for it out of some of my savings from before my coma." I smiled at her.

"You... You didn't have to d-" I cut Amelia off.

"I did have to! You've been so kind to me and let me into your home." we hugged and ate dinner.
