Invitation

When we exit the classroom and are about to be caught up in the endless flow of students heading to either the cafeteria or outside to have lunch, both I and Gwen's arms are grabbed, and someone pulls us off to the side.

"Gotcha!" Rogue exclaims after pulling us out, "We're going to eat at a nearby burger joint, but let's leave through the fire exit since fewer students use that."

Without waiting for a reply, she briskly starts walking toward the fire exit. If students want to eat outside the school, they really need to hurry since the lunch break isn't all that long.

Though using the fire exit isn't actually allowed since that's only supposed to be used in case of… you know… fires. Most students don't really seem to care, though.

"Hey, Anna, who did you want us to meet anyway?" Gwen asks, walking behind Rogue.

"Uh, well, you might know them since they go to our school, but just like me, they only come on certain days since we all live at a different boarding school together as well," Rogue explains.

Well, I already suspected it, but it seems like she is taking us to meet with some of the members of Xmen. Probably only the younger members, though. I doubt the older ones like Wolverine or Storm would be there.

As Rogue explained, all of the Xmen members live at Xavier's boarding school, and they split their days between studying there and coming to our school. The brotherhood of mutants seems to do the same, though they are at our school much more often than the Xmen and only skip the occasional day.

It doesn't take us long to reach our destination, and along the way, we just make some small talk as I bring out my special introvert power, the weather deck, to get me through the conversation.

Entering a small but comfy-looking building, I spot Kitty and Kurt sitting at a circular table near the back corner with a few other people. It looks like they already ordered some food, too, as I can see plates filled with fries and burgers on the table.

Noticing us enter, Kitty right away calls out and waves at us to come sit with them.

Walking up to the table, I could probably take a guess at who all the people are based on their looks, but instead, I decided to just wait for their introductions as there are a few that I don't actually recognize.

The first to stand up and greet me is a guy with sunglasses on. He is coming over and shakes my hand. "Hey there, you probably already know me since we're in the same class, but I'm Scott."

"Eh?" I let out an unintentional sound of surprise. Was I really in the same class as him? Isn't he mixing something up?

"What do you mean 'eh.' you do know me, right?" He asks, looking stupified that I didn't seem to recognize him.

"Are you sure you didn't get the wrong person?" I ask him only to be met with a laugh from a red-headed woman sitting at the table.

"Looks like Scott has failed at his class rep duties when his classmate doesn't even know who he is." The redhead says after she is done with her short laughing fit, "Oh, I'm Jean, by the way, nice to meet you."

Ah, it looks like Scott is the class representative in my class. Well, you can't entirely blame me for not knowing him. After all, I'm not the most social person, and all the Xmen look a little different from their counterparts in the movies.

From what I picked out of the old Peter's memories and heard from Kitty and Kurt, who like to gossip, Scott and Jean have been dating for several years already in this universe, and at least on the surface, their relationship seems to be going well.

To be honest, I was not very excited to meet Scott since I hated pretty much every version of him, be it the movies or comics, so I'm hoping the him in this universe is at the very least bearable.

And hey, if he turns out to be a good guy, maybe there is hope that Professor X isn't a delusional, mind-raping, bastard but my expectations on that front are extremely low.

"Ah no, sorry… I was just a bit surprised. Of course, I know that he is in my class," I said, trying to cheer up Scott, who genuinely looked depressed over me not knowing him.

Nobody else at the table seemed to buy my lie, but at least Scott recovered a bit. Well, he appears to be a good guy, but I'm still suspicious.

"Well, nice to meet you. I am Gwendolyn" Gwen introduced herself as the others went quiet.

"My name is Peter" I followed up with my name, but I got the feeling it was unnecessary, and everyone knew who I was since their attention seemed to be on me ever since we entered the building.

There were still two more guys at the table who hadn't spoken up yet and seeing as the attention was on them now, the first of the two introduced himself.

"Yo, I'm Warren, an underclassman of yours," Warren says, giving me a wave while stuffing fries into his mouth.

Warren? I thought that's the name of Angel, but I see no wings attached to him… unless maybe they are hidden under his clothes?

"My name is Rober Drake, but call me Bobby. Nice to meet you," The last person, probably better known as Iceman, says.

Thinking that I should start eating unless I want to go back to class with an empty stomach, I grab some fries while asking, "So I get the feeling we were invited here for some specific reason other than to just chat?"

The boys all share a look and nod to each other before Scott looks straight into my eyes and says, "You are right. There is a purpose to this meeting."

"We are putting together a team and want to invite you to join."

Note: So, not much happened in this chapter, but you know there will be chapters like that sometimes.
