Chapter 48 Wait for me

“Me? Smoking,? God forbid, I told you I was busy with my assignment, but now am done, you can have me all to yourself. Paul said.

“Now that you’re leaving”

“Yes, talk about leaving, let me go and park my stuffs”

“No need, I’ve done that already”, his mom said.

“Really thank you mom, you’re the best.”

“By the way why is your room so scattered? It didn’t look like you were alone last night?”

“What? Mom no… just stop it, are you trying to accuse me of something”?

“No, just go and get ready,” she said.

“Thank you mom” he said and hurried inside before she change her mind.

Getting inside he saw his dad sitting down with a newspaper on his hand but he drops it as soon as he saw Paul.

“Dad what?”. He ask his dad because he was just looking at him without saying anything.

“You need to be very careful you know”

“I know dad” he replied and walk straight to his room to get he bags”

Are you not eating?” his mom ask seeing him ready to go without food.

No mom thanks, I will eat when I arrive.

“Ok, let’s go” she wants to go with him to the airport but her husband stopped her.

“Honey don’t worry I will take him, remember you need to meet up with Sharon’s mother today”.

“Oh thank you dear I almost forgot,” she hugged Paul and they say their goodbyes.

Father and son hit the road to the airport but there was silence between them for half of the journey.

“You know you can talk to me son” the father was the first to break the silence.

“I don’t have anything to talk about dad”

“Last night, she was here last night”

“I know” Paul reply not minding his father.

“I want you to stop seeing her”

“Why?” Paul find himself yelling.

“Look I understand you are in love with this girl, but you are going to marry Sharon as soon as you get back from writing your final exam.”

“Dad this is not right, you guys can not force me to marry someone I don’t love”

“Look sometimes love only is not enough”

“Enough to do what dad? Paul ask angry.

“I don’t see anything wrong with Sharon if you ask me” his dad said.

“For me is Christy or no one else” Paul keeps yelling.

“Paul this is business, we need to keep the family legacy going.”

“I should throw away my happiness because of family legacy?” Paul ask not knowing if what his dad is saying makes any sense.

“Look I want you to go and study hard, when you come back we will continue this conversation.”

“No dad, it is either you are for me or against me.” Paul said turning away from his father.

“I know you will get to understand what am saying one day. We are here now”

Paul got up, took his bags and head to the airport to wait for his flight hour.

“Heyy.. guy you are late,” Patrick and James where waiting for him.

“Did you guys sleep here? Paul ask them with a straight face.

“Are we supposed to sleep here? And why is your face always like this?” James ask.

“Maybe he didn’t want to go back to school because of the babies” Patrick said and both James and Patrick laugh at Paul.

“Whatever, say what you want, is too early to pick a fight with you” Paul said and walk to sit in a separate sit.

“Come on, little thing and you are angry”, James said going to sit with Paul.

“Look I don’t want you guys fighting anymore, remember we have a common enemy in school, so you guys should behave”. James told Paul.

“Tell that to Patrick” Paul said.

Christy got home and was lucky to have escape because of Bridget who never runs out of liars to tell her mother.

“What did Paul gave you?” Bridget ask Christy as soon as their mother was out of the house.

“Nothing,” she said remembering what Paul told her never to allow Bridget get to her stuffs again.

“How many times will I tell you never to come back with nothing? Am working really hard here to cover up your ass and you come back telling me nothing.

Please do something because am not taking nothing as an answer.

“Ok, I will give you something but not now, I need to call him and let him know about this” Christy said.

“Please hurry up, I need to go back to school next tomorrow and I need money for shopping, I can’t go back to school looking the same.”

“I’ve heard you just wait tomorrow I will give you something”, Christy was trying to buy time so she will know what is in that envelope before Bridget.

“Ok, am going out, take care of the house, don’t go anywhere until I come back,” Bridget said and left the house.

Christy rush to her room to get the envelope.

What is in this envelope that Paul don’t want me to open before him?

She took it out and the first thing she saw was a picture of them both.

“Wow.. when did he take this picture? She turned the back and saw a write up that reads “My best friend for ever” and she smiles holding it close to her heart.

She looked and saw another picture and is just Paul that is in it, she turned it again to see if there is something and yes he wrote on it “I love you Christy”

“I love you too Paul.”

She looked and saw yet another one and this time it was only Christy in it.

“Wow.. Paul when did you take all this picture?” She ask the pictures.

She turned this one and saw.

“Will you marry me?”

“Yes Paul, yes, I will marry you.”

She picked up the phone and called him.

“Hello Christy how are you” Paul ask over the phone.

“Am fine Paul and yes I will marry you”

“Thank you so much, you’ve made me happy, just wait for me ok”

“Yes, I will wait for you, I love you Paul”.

“I love you more” Paul said and Patrick together with James start laughing.

“This guy has gone crazy,” Patrick said.

“Leave him alone and look for yours”. James said still laughing at Paul.

“Laugh all you want, she loves me and I love her too, there is nothing you guys can do about it. And yes we are going to get married when am done with this exam and takes over the company.” Paul said.

“Come are you serious? James ask surprised. “ I thought you are just dating this girl, why the rush to get married?”

“Ask him”  Patrick said, “his mate’s are talking of flying the world, he is here talking of getting married.

“I can fly the world with her”, Paul said.”

James and Patrick just looked at him and shook their heads. “ leave this guy alone his gone crazy since he met that girl” Patrick said.

“Yea, your right, but my problem is how to bring him back to his senses”. James reply.

“You don’t have to, just let him die” Patrick said and they walk away leaving Paul standing there looking at them.

Christy looked inside the envelope again and saw a huge sum of money.

“Wow. Thank you Paul, this will carry me till you come back. But what is this? She pick up a card inside the envelope and a little peace of paper with a code on it. It read, “ this Is my card and my  pin if the money I gave you is not enough, you can always withdraw from my account”

No Paul, I can’t do that, you have done enough for me already, it will be very ungrateful for me to use this card, no I will keep it safe for you, when you come back I will give it back,” she put the card and the piece of paper in a safe place and lock it away.

She put the money and everything Paul has gave her in a safe place and took out only the money she wants to give to Bridget, and she went about her house chores with smile all over her face.

“When Paul comes back, my life will be much better, I will go to school and probability get married to him and all this suffering will end.”

Bridget came back and was demanding the money with full force.

“Take,” Christy hand her the money.

“Wow.. so fast? This Paul is an ATM machine, why didn’t we get to know him earlier? I would have been rich by now,” she took the money and hurry up to her room to get her things in order.

“Don’t worry, I will soon leave this house when Paul comes back, let me see how he is going to continue been your ATM machine” Christy said murmuring.

“Yes, I now have an iphone and lots of money, this is the best Christmas I have ever had” Bridget said happily parking up her luggage, preparing to go back to school.
