Abyss

"WAAH!" Clay screamed his lungs out as he wiggled his body around on the floor. He continued on screaming occasionally stopping to catch his breath, but immediately going back to screaming right away.

This went on for about five minutes, before he finally realized. "Eh?" He muttered as he slowly opened his eyes. There was no pole, no truck, no disembodied body on the road either, his eyes still working was proof of that.

Instead what greeted him was black. Yes, black, the color black was plastered in front of his face wherever he looked. Everywhere he looked, he was met with nothing but black, other than his own body obviously.

Fortunately it seemed like he was on solid ground. He tapped his hand on the black abyss, confirming that it was indeed safe to stand up. The confused Clay slowly stood up as he marveled at what was in front of him. "W-Where.." he uttered to himself.

He had no idea where he was nor what happened. All he knew was that he was squashed by an electric pole, no one told him that he would get transported into purgatory. The thought that it was a dream did cross his mind, but he immediately shook it off, claiming it was too vivid to be one.

"Ow!" Clay exclaimed in pain as he tried pinching his arm. It hurt like he thought, but that only made him more confused. If it wasn't a dream, then where the hell is he.

Reluctantly, he took a step forward from where he was standing. He didn't forget to tap it with his hand first, so he at least knew it was indeed solid.

Taking a few more steps, he confirmed that it was a little safe. The reluctant Clay continued on walking, trying to find at least something that could tell him where he was. Though he knew the chances of that happening were slim, it won't hurt to try.

He continued on walking for a few more minutes, surprisingly he didn't feel tired. He'd been walking for about a few minutes now, and though he was really weak for his age, his legs weren't wavering.

'Maybe it's because I walk to work everyday' he thought to himself. Though once he was about an hour in to walking, he immediately disregarded that thought. There was definitely some magic working it's way in the shadows. He'd been walking for what seemed to be hours now, but his legs wasn't going to give. up anytime soon, nor was he tired. It felt surprisingly refreshing.

Suddenly out of nowhere a bright light flashed in front of Clay. The light was so bright it made his eyes wince as he immediately turned his head back, "What the!" he exclaimed.

Once the light subsided, the dazed Clay slowly turned towards it. He of course didn't want to get blinded again so he covered his eyes with his hands, only peeking through a little gap between his fingers.

In front of him was a little ball of light, who zipped around the black void. It looked like a firefly, only a little bigger and brighter. Clay watched as the ball of light frantically zoomed around.

"Shit! I'm late!" a small, high pitched voice exclaimed from out of nowhere. The small light then stopped, before flying towards Clay. He could hear something mumble before the light flew towards his face.

Clay watched in awe as the thing floated in front of him. He didn't see it at first, but the light had two little translucent wings on it. It reminded him of that little ball in that one movie about wizards, but instead of gold it was instead a ball of light--

"You! You are one of the Chosen to go to the world of Avalent. A world of swords and magic, a world which-"

Then out of nowhere the thing spoke? He wasn't really listening to what it said, he was too engrossed in how such a small thing could produce sound. 'Is it some type of drone?' he thought.

But with everything that was happening the ball of light talking didn't really stay in his head for that long. Clay faced it as he slowly raised his hand up--

"Umm? Mr. Light? What exactly is this place again?"

Clay asked in a soft tone. Mr. Light wasn't too fond of this as he immediately yelled back at Clay. "It's Lumen! Not Mr. Light! Weren't you listening?!" Lumen exclaimed.

'Is it my fault though?' Clay thought. Any normal person wouldn't be in the proper headspace to talk to a magical floating ball of light, right after they just accepted their death. Most would be looking for Jesus not Lumen.

Lumen flew around, seemingly frustrated by Clay. He continued to zoom around before finally going back in front of Clay. "Listen here mortal. I don't have enough time. I'm gonna run it down to you as quickly as possible. So, listen or else." Lumen said in a stern tone, though his tiny squeaky voice wasn't really that good at intimidating people.
