Chapter 14: First Power(1)

Luke went outside and saw the children waiting for him at the door. Luke looked at the children who were staring at him in amazement, he just ignored it and headed downstairs. Luke felt something pressing on his shoulder and whispered.

"You are getting heavier, it seems like you're eating well while I was unconscious."

• Of course, Spencer said that you'll be sad if I didn't eat my food.

'Of course, I'll be sad. I'm going to work you to the bone tomorrow so you can't lose weight or feel hungry, or else I'll feel guilty.'

Luke nodded while stepping down the stairs. He then saw Spencer sitting on a table downstairs while blowing hot soup.

Spencer noticed me and frowned like he just lost his appetite to eat. Luke then frowned while seeing those actions.

'This bastard, he's that mad? But what can I do? It's not like I asked Selena to turn me into a handsome man.'

Luke just sighed and went towards the counter. He saw a lady in her mid-thirties looking at him like he's a ghost. Luke didn't notice it and just said what he wants.

"Please give me a bowl of soup. Ah, please give these children behind me some too."

The children peeked from behind Luke and looked at the soup that is in a large pot while drooling. Luke just stared at the woman looking at him. He then asked in a confused voice.

"Uh, ma'am? Is something wrong?"

"Uh? Ah! The soup! Yes! I'll get it right away."

Luke thought something was wrong but brushed it off. His ears then twitched when he heard the whispers of the people around him.

"Hey, do you think that the brave miss is still unconscious?"

"I hope she is okay, her companions said that she was the one who planned on saving this village from the beginning."

"Yeah, such a good girl. She even sacrificed herself to get rid of that devil."

"Ugh! The times when we're under that damned spell is sickening!"

"Yeah, it feels like we're just watching a play while seeing our bodies move on their own."

"Ugh, that is hell."

"Thank goodness someone with a good heart freed us."

"What's her name again? Jane? Such a pretty name."

Luke turned around and saw a group of people sitting in the corner chattering while eating. He looked left and right and all he hears are topics about 'Jane and how she saved the village'. Luke held his chest like he's having a heart attack.

'What? Savior of the village who? Jane? Me? What about Spencer and the kids? Why only me? This is terrifying.'

Luke felt like he needs to hurry and buy a house far from people and lock himself in there. He then swore he is not going to do anything more eye-catching. He absolutely can't. He feels like he'll have a seizure with all the praises people exclaimed for him.

He then sighed to call himself down. And looked at the woman in front of him who is holding a tray with five bowls in it. Luke then said something once he saw how many bowls are in there.

"Ah, can you please add one more bowl?"

"Ah, sure."

Luke held the tray and the woman returned to him with another bowl of soup. He then nodded and then went ahead to where Spencer is eating.

As he walks to Spencer the whispers become louder. Luke frowned and hurriedly walked towards Spencer and then put the tray down on the table.

Bam!

Spencer looked at Luke like he was rude and scolded him.

"Why did you put the tray down like that? I'm eating you know?"

Luke glared at Spencer and sat in the chair opposite to him. He then shot a question.

"What the hell did you tell the villagers?"

Spencer looked at him with a confused expression and casually answered.

"I just told them what happened, that's all."

"No, what is that I hear earlier? 'Her companions said that Jane planned to save the village from the beginning'? What kind of bullshit is that?"

"Why? Isn't that what you planned to do?"

"Absolutely not!"

"Then what is it that you planned to do?"

"To just save Selena!"

"And what did you do next?"

"...Fought the scrawny dude."

"Then...?"

Luke frowned.

"Okay! I admit I fought the scrawny dude and broke the spell. But that is not enough to call me the Savior of the village! What about you guys? Didn't you also helped?"

"We've already received so many praises this past few weeks. It's quite uncomfortable but the children seemed to like it though."

Luke looked at the children who are eating their soup while nodding their heads. Lily, Nash, Jessa, Josh, and Michael all talked at the same time.

"Every day, the villagers would give me candies. I share some with Nash because he seemed to like it.

• Don't worry, I always clean my teeth after I eat the candies.

"The villagers also handed us flowers! They are very pretty."

"Being praised for saving someone is like having a big achievement.".

"Yeah! I felt good!"

Luke stared blankly at the kids and sighed. He ruffled Lily's hair who is beside him and thought.

'They're just kids.,'

Luke thought that they were still children to know the true horror of being famous and just ate his soup. He secretly passed a bowl of soup under the table and continued to eat the soup after that. He then heard Nash's voice.

• It tastes good.

Luke nodded in satisfaction and continued to eat quietly, he then stopped eating when someone holding a tray of food interrupted them.

Luke looked at the person who interrupted them and saw Selena holding a tray with a bowl of soup in it. She then asked.

"Can I eat with all of you?"

Luke stared at her for a moment before answering.

"Yeah, sure. We don't mind."

"Great."

Selena then sat beside Spencer and across to Luke. She then looked toward Luke who is quietly eating his soup. She then said something that made Luke choke.

"The God of Light wants me to come with you."

"Hmmph! Cough! Cough!"

"Brother?! Here have some water!"

Lily offered Luke a glass of water and Luke immediately gulped it down. He then looked at Selena who is blankly staring at him with wide eyes.

'The God of Light wants his child to come with us?! I already have five talented mages with me and a child loved by God decides to come with us?! Then it will grab the attention of the people wherever I go! Might as well say,

'Hey! I have a really eye-catching group, watch us!'.

Hell no!'

Luke immediately answered with a serious expression.

"No."

Selena frowned while looking at Luke who has a stiff expression in front of her.

"No can do, I have to come with you or the God of Light will nag at me every second."

"Nag at you?"

"Yeah! He really wants me to come with you for some weird reason. Anyway, even though you like it or not, I have to follow you."

Luke frowned and looked at the annoyed look on Selena's face. She then added something.

"Ah, as thanks for the potion and bread you gave me earlier, I added another blessing in your body."

"Hmm? Another blessing?"

"Yeah, I added a healing blessing on your body. From now on whenever you get injured or poisoned your body will automatically heal. But it won't work if your body or limb is entirely cut off. "

Luke looked at Selena with amazement. He then feels that It wouldn't be too bad to add another member to the party. If she's this useful, then might as well take her.

"Okay, you can come with us."

"Really? What changed you?"

"Well, the kids need an older sister figure. Me and Spencer are men so the girls must be lonely."

"Ho."

Spencer looked at me with amazement. He then added on.

"You already accepted the fact that you are a man. Your adaptability is shocking."

"I already decided I'm a man from the day I planned to become one."

"Ho."

Spencer keeps gasping, Luke just frowned at him and felt someone tugging his coat. He looked at them and saw Lily and Jessa looking at him with sparkling eyes.

"Is she our new big sister?"

"She'll come with us?"

Luke nodded and answered.

"Yes, she will come with us."

The girls immediately jumped from their seats and took their bowl of soup with them. They then each sat beside Selena. Selena looked surprised and looked at the girls. Lily and Jessa began talking to her.

"Big sis, what type of food you like?"

"Big sis if we ever go shopping, can you please pick me a dress?"

Selena seemed to be caught off guard and answered them with a flustered face. Luke just stared at them for a moment before looking at his side. He then saw Michael and Josh moved beside him. Luke then asked them.

"Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Big brother, are we going to another village?"

"Hmm? It's not a village but more like a city."

"A city?! Then can we buy some new clothes in there?!"

"Uh, sure? Why did you ask?"

Michael and Josh looked at each other and nodded they then looked at Luke with sparkling eyes.

"We want to buy a coat like yours!"

"Yes! I want to be awesome and cool like you!"

Luke looked at them with surprise and peeked at Spencer. He saw him looking at Selena and him with an unhappy expression. Luke felt kinda bad for him. He then answered the kids.

"There are no coats like this for kids. You should all grow up first and then I'll buy you one. For now, you should ask your older brother Spencer to pick you some good and cool-looking clothes. I bet he could pick a good one for you."

"Really?"

"Yes."

Michael and Josh then jumped from their seats and sat beside Spencer. Spencer looked shocked and looked at Luke. Luke just gave him a thumbs up. Spencer ignored it and paid attention to his siblings.

Luke looked at the two grown men and women paying attention to the kids chattering and sighed.

'Finally, some peace. Maybe I should dump the kids to Spencer and Selena like this in the future. They both seemed to like it when the children are paying attention to them.'

He then continued to eat his unfinished soup. A few minutes later, they all finished eating their food and stood up. Luke then heard Nash's voice.

• If I grow up. Will you buy me clothes too?

Luke then whispered.

"Yes, yes I'll buy you whatever you want."

Nash fell silent and Luke felt him sitting on his shoulders. The group returned their bowls and are prepared to leave.

The group is now in front of the village entrance, the fog was gone and the village looked brighter than before.

They seemed to be still under construction but the atmosphere is good. The villagers gathered around and the person who seemed to be the mayor shakes hands with us.

"Thank you for saving us, We will never forget your kindness. And of course, you too Saint Selena."

Selena frowned slightly at the word 'saint' but managed to pull off a holy-looking smile. The villagers almost teared up but managed to hold it in. The mayor then said something in a sad voice.

"It's a shame that we didn't properly send miss Jane off. I didn't know that as soon as she woke up she will immediately leave."

Spencer and Selena made an excuse earlier to the villagers explaining Jane's absence. It was that Jane immediately left the village after waking up to receive treatment in the nearby city.

"Ah yes, Jane needed some treatment so she needed to go early."

"Is that so? Well, there is nothing we could do then."

Luke just blankly stared at the scene and finally turns around, the group followed behind him and started to walk away.

They heard the villagers' goodbyes but they didn't look back... Except for the kids of course. The kids waved at the villagers while walking away, after that they all stick beside Luke and held the end of his long coat. Selena then started to speak

"We're going to Ceb City next? It is located in the Northeast part of the kingdom. It'll take at least two days by carriage. Should I call a carriage?"

"No need."

"What?"

"We'll run."

Selena looked at Luke with wide eyes and saw the children looking excited. Spencer just sighed and shakes his head. Selena asked in a confused voice.

"Run? That will take us much more time to get there if we run!"

"It's not impossible. These kids are mid-grade mages."

"W-what? Mid-grade?"

"Yes, and Spencer is a highest-grade mage."

"Oh, my lord!"

Selena looked at the kids and Spencer with wide eyes while holding her chest. But Luke is not done yet.

"Besides, we have Nash here."

"Nash?"

"That's me. Nash Clodwal."

A voice of a three-year-old could be heard and Selena felt like her eyes are going to pop out of her eye sockets. She saw a black fluffy looking being looking at her from Luke's shoulder. Selena's jaw dropped while stammering.

"I-is that what I think it is...?"

Luke is about to answer but the children were faster. Michael, Josh, Lily, and Jessa said unbelievable things to Selena with happy faces.

"He's our brother!"

"He is a powerful younger brother."

"He always plays with us and likes candy!"

"He is also one of the people who saved the village!"

Selena looked at the happy children and thought.

'My God, what did I signed myself up into? This is crazy...'

Selena saw Nash turn invisible again and sighed. She then looked at Luke, who leads the group.

'He's crazy too. Leading a bunch of powerful kids but he himself is not powerful. I couldn't even feel a lick of mana from him.'

Selena looked at Luke's back and heard him said something.

"Let's go."

Selena felt a powerful spell being cast on her body and her body became lighter. She then saw the kids, Spencer, and Luke kick off the ground and started to run at a terrifying speed. Selena frowned and followed behind them.
