Chapter 14 Felix’s First Visit To The Supermarket

As Felix and Lilac continued to walk to the supermarket Felix tugged at the neck of the trench coat and asked "Can we go back yet?" Lilac glared at him as she said "We haven't even made it into the supermarket yet." Felix continued to follow her as he mumbled "How do people wear these uncomfortable clothes?" As they stopped in front of a building Lilac glanced at him and said "Stay close to me, it would be bad if we get separated and someone discovered what you are." As Felix followed Lilac into the supermarket and towards the produce, Lilac said "I think Silkie said she needed to buy some eggs." Lilac sighed as she said, "We might have to wait for her to get here before we can buy what she needs." As Lilac turned to Felix she said "Come to think of it do you even have any money?" Lilac stared at him for a moment and noticed that he was staring at someone's basket. Lilac waved her hand in front of him as she asked "What's got you so dazed?" Felix flinched as he said "Sorry… I wasn't paying attention, what did you say?" Lilac glanced at the basket as she said "I asked if you even have any money."

Felix thought for a moment and then asked "What's money?" Lilac glared at him as she angrily said "Your joking right?" Felix stared at her with a blank expression waiting for an answer as she sighed and said "Money… you know… that stuff that lets you get things… it's sort of like trade but with paper and metal coins." As she said this Felix cheerfully said "Oh, so I'm what you'd call broke right?" Lilac glared at him as she asked "Are you trying to piss me off?" Felix flinched as he said, "Did I use the word broke wrong?" Lilac punched him as she said, "You used it right but you said it so cheerfully it pissed me off." Felix smiled as he said, "Then I did learn how to use that phrase." Lilac began to breathe in a rhythm as she said "Calm down… you can't do much to him in public… take deep breathes." As Lilac stood there breathing Felix flinched as he heard Silkie behind him ask "Do you not have a job?" Felix glanced at her as he nervously said "N-no I do… I-it's just um… Not what you'd expect." Silkie stared at him for a moment and then said "Oh… it must be one of those jobs where you volunteer right?"

Felix thought for a moment and then mumbled "Volunteer? I'm pretty sure it's more like… blackmail?" Silkie came closer to him as she said "Doing volunteer work must be rough, you work constantly and don't see a dime worth of pay." Felix stared at her confused as he thought "Dime? Is this one of those phrases people use?" Felix thought for a moment as he asked, "What's a dime?" Silkie stared at him in shock as she asked "Could it be… that you were tricked into working for free since you didn't know what money was?" Felix stared at her confused as he said "Money is that trading thing right?" Silkie stared at him for a moment in silence and then asked "Have you learned anything before coming here?" Felix shook his head as he said "Nope, I knew very little." Lilac nodded as she said, "I can vouch for him… the first time I met him he was run over by a car because he didn't know what it was." Silkie smirked as she asked, "Is that when you took a liking to him?" Lilac blushed as she said "N-no." As Silkie teased Lilac Felix's eye got caught by something on a shelf a bit further away from them. As Felix walked towards the shelf without saying a word Lilac continued to blush while saying "So what if I like a guy who can survive a few stabs, it's just my type… I can't help it!"

Silkie smiled as she said "You know… I hear the new resident is also quite fond of him." Lilac stared at her for a moment as she said "Wait… Daka, seriously!" Silkie nodded as she said, "Vex and her were talking recently and I happened to overhear one of their conversations in the middle of the night, although she wouldn't go into detail about it, it sounded like Felix helped her in quite a memorable way." Lilac glanced over to where Felix was standing as she blushed while asking "What exactly did you do for her?" Lilac stared at where he was standing for a few moments as she angrily said "He did the one thing I told him not to do!" Silkie stared at Lilac as she said "He left a moment ago, didn't you notice?" Lilac glanced around angrily as she said "When we get back to the apartments I'll be sure to get revenge on him for ignoring me." Silkie smiled as she pointed at him standing by a nearby shelf as she said "He didn't go that far." Lilac glared at him as she said "He doesn't even care that he ignored my warning." Silkie began to walk over towards him as she smiled and said "By the way… I don't think he realizes what I mean whenever I say you like him." Lilac stood there for a moment as she said "Really? But he'd have to be a total idiot not to have realized by now right?"

Silkie glanced at her with a smile as she said "We could always ask him directly if you'd like." Lilac stared at her while blushing and nervously saying "N-no… if he still doesn't know then that's fine." Silkie laughed a little as she said "You know… if you keep on acting like this Daka might steal him from you." Lilac began to walk beside her as she blushed while saying "As if I'd let that happen." As Silkie and Lilac stood behind Felix Silkie asked "Did you find something you'd like to try?" Felix continued to stare at an item on the shelf without saying a word as Lilac said "This is the second time he's acted like this, what is he doing?" Silkie stood beside him and stared at his face for a moment and then followed his gaze to a shelf that had tofu on it. As Silkie picked one of the bags up off the shelf Felix's eyes followed it as she said "Oh now I get it." Felix flinched as he nervously looked away from the bag and said "S-sorry I didn't listen to your warning did I?" Lilac stared at him and then glanced at the bag Silkie was holding as she asked, "What exactly did you get from this?" Silkie showed her the bag of tofu as she said "I heard other yokai talking about how fox spirits loved fried tofu… I never would've guessed that it was true." Silkie smiled as she said, "Your attention was completely stolen by a bag of tofu."

As he stood there he heard the voice say "Being swayed by your instincts still? It'll be a long time before you gain another tail." Felix blushed a little as he said "I-I didn't mean to." Lilac continued to stare at the bag as she angrily said "You ignored my warning… for a bag of tofu!" Lilac punched him in his stomach as she said "Count yourself lucky that this is all I can do to you right now." As he was punched the leaf that is usually on his head fell onto the floor and was crumbled up by a passing person who stepped on it." As Felix turned back into a fox he hid inside the trench coat as Lilac stared at the crumpled leaf and nervously asked "W-what do we do?" Silkie stared at the destroyed leaf as she said "That really is unfortunate." Lilac glanced around as she panicked and said "No one seen right?" Silkie picked the trench coat with Felix in it up and set the flat cap on top of it as she said "Well no one seen so we should be able to get him back like this." As Felix peeked his head out from within the trench coat Lilac stared at him and said "You gotta stay hidden." Silkie stared at her for a moment as she then said "But couldn't we just say he's an emotional support animal?"

Lilac took Felix and the clothes from Silkie as she said "That won't work if they ask for proof." Lilac began to walk towards the exit of the store as she said "You just finish shopping, I'll get him back to the apartments and hope no one sees him." As Lilac's rushed out of the store with Felix she thought "Even after I warned him about getting caught… it might be my fault that he gets discovered by these humans." Felix continued to peek out of the trench coat as he thought "I can't believe I got distracted by whatever was in that bag."
