Chapter 009 | Retaliation

Fang Chen instantly moved and before the sword could slash Mo Yan, he grabbed the assassin's arms and pulled him back.

As soon as the assassins turned around due to the sudden jerk, Fang Chen punched his face.

Just then, Fang Chen heard a low whoosh sound and turned around.

In the next moment, he had an arrow in his hand.

One of the long range assassins was still out there, waiting for the right moment.

But this action of his was going to create a bigger loss for the assassins.

Because as soon as Fang Chen caught the arrow, he turned around and stabbed the arrow into the neck of the assassin he had just punched.

And before the latter could react, Fang Chen kicked him into the pit created by the assassins themselves!

Because his vocal cords were destroyed because of the arrow, the assassins couldn't even cry for help as the pit engulfed him.

Now, only two assassins were left. One was fighting against Mo Yan, while the other was still in shock to see what had just happened.

'How can a martial warrior catch my arrows?'

Near the pit, Fang Chen looked back and forth between the two assassins and after a moment of thought, he took out the knife which Mo Yan had given to him earlier and surprisingly attacked the nearby assassin who was focused on Mo Yan until now.

Then, before the assassin could react, Mo Yan ran forwards and swung his sword.

The second assassin was instantly decapitated.

Fang Chen didn't waste any time and instantly ran for the assassin with a bow and arrow.

He had a general idea about the latter's location and had no plan to give him another chance to ambush.

And considering this was the last assassin, it was best if he could catch the latter alive and bring out any possible information about why they were after the two of them.

Fang Chen jumped over the boulders and big rocks and was swiftly coming towards the assassin.

The assassin, who was on top of one of the trees, had long recovered from the shock of the losses of his comrades and was jumping from branch to branch to escape.

But just as it had taken two steps-

-siu!~

-pchuik~

The assassin felt a sudden jerk on his calf and when he looked down, he saw a knife stabbed through it.

"Who the fuck is this guy?"

The assassins gritted his teeth.

He was shocked by their target's precision and instinct.

'This mission is clearly not for us… where is Deacon?'

Their Deacon, the purple-robbed assassin could have easily dealt with the two targets but for some reason, he chose not to.

However, now that they were almost killed, the assassin was hoping for the Deacon to step up and save the day.

Alas it was too late.

Fang Chen had already caught up to him and had even climbed up the tree by swinging himself across branches.

He held the assassin by his throat and took out the sword in the latter's sheath and put it right over his eyes.

"Move and you will lose your eyes." Fang Chen gritted his teeth.

The assassin, shocked by the sudden change, raised his hand in surrender.

"Who are you?" Fang Chen asked.

"As if I will tell you." The assassin smirked and as soon as that happened, his face suddenly began to bloat.

In fact, not only his face, but his whole body had begun to bloat.

Fang Chen stepped back in shock. He didn't know what was happening but his instincts told him to get away from the assassin in front of him.

Without hesitation, he jumped from the branch and as soon as he did, the assassin exploded!

-boom!

The force from the blast slammed Fang Chen right into the tree trunk of a nearby tree.

Fang Chen lost strength for a moment and fell head first on the ground.

"I swear this is the last time I get on a tree." He cursed as he stood up.

Upon raising his head, he found the meat of the assassin lying all over the tree branches, and some of it was even dripping down on the ground.

Even the back of his robes felt wet. He knew that his back was most probably covered in the assassins's blood.

Taking a sigh he stood up.

"Looks like we won't know who they were."

He shook his head and then began to run back in the direction from which he came.

Mo Yan was still out there and he was hoping that the former wasn't injured.

But as he ran, he suddenly found it difficult to run.

"What's happening?"

He frowned and just then remembered the arrow that had stuck his leg earlier.

"The poison."

He gritted his teeth.

As long as he got to Mo Yan, he would be safe.

Just as he had walked out, he tried to move his hand and to his surprise, even his hand had gotten quite stiff.

'Damn.. I forgot I was hit on my shoulders too.'

Fang Chen gritted his teeth and tried to increase his pace. But with every step, it was getting harder to move on.

Although it wasn't still in the worst state so he was sure that he would return. It was only now as he ran back to Mo Yan did he feel how far he had run to.

'Was I really this fast?'

Just yesterday, he couldn't even keep up with Mo Yan and now he had traveled that much distance within a few seconds.

The change was too huge.

'Is this what a Martial Warrior is…?'

He was already reaching superhuman strength at the lowest cultivation realm alone, and this thought couldn't help but make him anticipate the coming realms.

He sighed at this thought.

But the next moment, the smile on his face froze.

It was because of what he was witnessing in front of him.

Mo Yan.

He was lying unconscious.

Fang Chen's heart skipped a beat.

The whole time he had not forgotten about the one goal: To keep Mo Yan alive at any cost.

If Mo Yan dies, the chances of Fang Chen's death would rise exponentially and that was when Fang Chen still had the powerful background screening him from most of his enemies. After the new changes, Fang Chen was alone in this world.

The only friend he had was Mo Yan and the last twenty four hours were enough for him to judge the latter's character.

But now, seeing him lying still on the ground shocked Fang Chen and he subconsciously thought of the first.

Instantly, he forced his legs and ran as fast as he could.

In the next moment, Fang Chen was already beside Mo Yan.

"Mo Yan!" He nudged his unconscious friend, "Mo Yan, get up! What happened?"

He put his fingers on the latter's neck to check pulse.

The pulse was there, although quite dim and slow, but they were there.

Mo Yan was alive.

But this didn't lower Fang Chen's worries. Just then, he noticed that Mo Yan's robes were drenched in blood.

"What the hell happened?" He overturned Mo Yan's body and was shocked to find huge three scars on the latter's body.

"What is this…"

Just then, Mo Yan twitched and slowly opened his eyes.

He tried to speak but instead of a voice, blood came out of his mouth.

-cough! Cough!

"Don't move," Fang Chen said, "I will take you to the Guard Post. let's go!"

It was most likely a sword wound Mo Yan had suffered while fighting against the assassins.

Fang Chen moved his hands and put it behind Mo Yan's head.

Mo Yan, on the other hand, forced himself to speak up, "Un aee"

"What?" Fang Chen frowned while trying to get the latter up, "Don't say anything, you're putting pressure on your wounds."

"Un aee!"

"...I don't know what you're saying"

"Un aee! Un AAE!"

"..." Fang Chen frowned.

Just then, Mo Yan's eyes widened and he pushed away Fang Chen.

"Wha-"

-Grrr!!!!

Fang Chen's words stuck in his throat as he saw a huge shadow appear behind him.

Instantly, he took Mo Yan's sword that was lying beside him and turned around to defend himself.

What greeted his sight turned him speechless.

It was a wolf.

A huge dark wolf with a green glow around its body and blue eyes stood in front of him.

Fang Chen gulped.

He knew which and what the beast in front of him was and the chances of getting out of this place alive were incredibly low.

'A Contracted Beast'

"Un aee…" Mo Yan spoke again.

But this time, Fang Chen understood what the former was saying.

Run Away.

Mo Yan wanted him to escape with his life.

Fang Chen would have run for sure. He wasn't a hero or a great person. He had only one goal: To survive.

But if he chose to run, he would lose Mo Yan. And that would be no different than digging his own grave, and delaying the eventual death.

'If I am gonna die, it's better to die knowing how I died.'

Even if Fang Chen had the strength to defeat the beast in front of him, he knew he wouldn't be able to escape the person who owns this beast.

Just as he thought, someone jumped and landed right on the Wolf's head.

The wolf was almost twice Fang Chen's height and the man who appeared on top of the wolf, was wearing a purple robe, staring down at Fang Chen without showing any emotions.

'So this Contracted Beast is his?'

'Who is this guy?'
