Chapter 008 | Instinct

Blood Yeti.

One of the rarest to encounter species in the whole of the Avalon Mountain Range, was staring at the two young men.

Fang Chen pursed his lips and took a deep breath.

"Run!"

Without waiting for Mo Yan's response, he jumped down from branch to branch to get the hell away from the beast.

There was no more Crown Fruit on the tree and luck was not something they could afford to rely on.

Behind him, Mo Yan also ran. He didn't plan to die here either.

Both of them didn't even look behind to see if the Blood Yeti was following them or not, the sheer fear in their hearts was enough to make them run as if their life depended on it.

Fang Chen, who was experiencing the enhanced physical capabilities for the first time, lost control of his pace by the time he entered the lower parts of the Avalon Wood tree.

-bam!

"Ugh!"

-thud!

Fang Chen's leg had slipped and he fell chest-first on the tree branch and then sideways on the ground.

"Ah…" He gritted his teeth, but couldn't control the urge to cough.

-cough! Cough!

Blood spilled out from the corner of his mouth.

Just as Mo Yan had also landed, pulling up the former, he spoke "Looks like your body still hasn't fully recovered. We can't wait, let's go!"

Fang Chen nodded and then wiping the blood from his mouth with the help of his wrist, he said, "Lead the way!"

"Follow me!"

They both began to run once again.

This time however, both of them had similar pacing and were able to run on par with each other, although Fang Chen was finding it hard to control unwanted body movements.

As they ran, Mo Yan glanced back, "I don't think the Yeti is following us."

Fang Chen shook his head, "No, we can't say for sure unless we're in the open. Yeti are known for their stealth and disguise - if they were human, they would be top tier humans!"

Mo Yan spoke as he continued to run, "How do you know this? You never used to spend time in the library"

Fang Chen dismissed his question, "Don't speak. That's an unnecessary waste of energy."

Mo Yan nodded and both of them continued to run.

They were currently heading in the northern direction.

The Avalon Academy was situated about half a day's distance from their current location, and if they didn't encounter any unnecessary trouble, they might even reach the academy before noon.

About half an hour later of constant sprinting, the forest around them was beginning to get sparse and the land below their feet was turning more rocky.

Not far ahead of them, they could see two huge snow capped mountains.

"That's the entrance!" Mo Yan spoke, "There will be an Avalon Academy Guard Post at the entrance. As long as we get there, we will be safe."

Fang Chen nodded.

Just as they had taken a few more steps -

-siu!! Siu!!! Siu!!!

"Ah!" FanG Chen suddenly felt a sharp cut on the side of his right leg. The unexpected hit made him stumble and fall.

Someone had attacked them with arrows!

"Duck!" Mo Yan suddenly shouted once again and as soon as he did, few more arrows flew towards them

-Siu! Siu! Siu!

This time they barely managed to escape and hid behind a big boulder.

"Will they catch up to us?" Mo Yan gritted his teeth and pulled Fang Chen away from the range of incoming arrows.

Fang Chen gritted his teeth, "If it's them, we're in trouble. My leg will be paralysed and I won't be able to run."

"I know, that's why we need to get to the Guard posts on time." Mo Yan looked around, and then handed over the knife, "Here. Keep this with you. I will keep the sword since I am the uninjured one this time."

Fang Chen nodded. "How do we get out?"

Mo Yan shook his head, "The area in front of us is open, we can only have a direct confrontation against the enemy. But we don't know the enemy's strength. Let's bet on our legs and run as fast as we can."

FanG Chen glanced at his leg, "I don't know how far i will be able to go."

Mo Yan nodded, "don't worry, if we can have enough lead, I will carry you on my back."

"...Alright, run on the count of three."

"One. Two. Run!"

-siu! Siu! Siu!

As soon as they stepped out, they were once again bombarded with incoming arrows from behind.

Both of them ran in zin-zag motion to confuse the unknown enemy behind them.

Fang Chen knew it was just a matter of time before the enemies got to them and he couldn't afford to waste any time because of the poison in his leg.

'I need to do something!'

Just then, his body instinctively moved and he flexed his neck muscles to lean his head to the side.

And just when he did this, an arrow passed by his ear, surprising him!

"Woah!"

"Did I just dodge that!?"

He looked at Mo Yan, but the latter hadn't noticed it, he was still running.

Just then, he suddenly has another weird feeling and instinctively, he pulls Mo Yan.

Just like the previous time, another arrow passed by them!

Mo Yan, who had now noticed the anomaly was also surprised, "how did you do that!?"

"I don't know…" Fang Chen replied.

-Siu!

"Ugh!"

An arrow hit Fang Chen's shoulder, stumbling his steps once again.

But it didn't distract him, because his mind was still occupied by how he had stopped two incoming arrows back to back?!

"I can do that again, but how?"

He whispered to himself once again. And then tried to concentrate again and again.

Just then, he moved his hand and instantly caught an arrow that was about to hit Mo Yan!

'Holy shit!'

'How is this evening happening?!'

Neither of the young men had an answer but this gave them hope.

If Fang Chen could help them avoid enough arrows before they reached the guard post, they would be able to escape alive from this spot.

-siu!

Another arrow came, and Fang Chen instantly caught and threw it.

His timing was getting better at every moment.

And when he did this the next time and stopped an arrow which was about to hit Mo Yan's neck, an idea clicked in his head.

Then, just when his instincts revealed the incoming arrow, he easily caught it and without wasting even a single moment, he immediately turned around and threw the arrow back at the enemies!

The enemies, who were trying hard to hit the two targets, were too shocked to react when they saw Fang Chen catch the arrow and send it back at them!

'Holy Shit!'

-siu!

-Khiach!

They were only lucky because the arrow didn't come back at them but had hit one of the trees about ten meters away.

The assassins glanced at each other and then as if reading each other's mind they put another arrow in their bows and both targeted the same person: Fang Chen!

-Siu!

-siu!

In the next instant, both of them released the arrows.

Ahead of them, Fang Chen, who had now turned around, was assessing what he had seen when he had turned around to throw the arrows.

"Two Assassins."

"4 o'clock and 7 o'clock"

Suddenly he frowned and turned around.

Two arrows appeared in front of him, and came to a halt right in front of his eyes. He had once again stopped them.

Then, without wasting any moment, he sent the arrows back to the assassins one by one!

"Aah!" The first arrow hit right between the eyebrows of one of the assassins, instantly killing him.

The second arrow hit a tree, because the other assassins had dodged it since he had more time to understand the situation.

"One dead." FanG Chen spoke.

He had just killed another human for the first time in his life.

He felt nothing.

Maybe it was because of the current situation.

By now, he had already turned around and was running ahead with Mo Yan.

"How many were there?" Fang Chen asked. He had seen three assassins by now, two of which are dead.

"Five."

"So two haven't shown themselves!"

-BOOM!

Suddenly, the land beneath their feet shook.

And a huge hole appeared in front of them, making them skid their feet to somehow stop themselves from falling into the pit.

As the dust slowly began to settle, Fang Chen suddenly frowned.

He then looked to his side, away from Mo Yan and noticed an assassin, completely clad in black robes, jumping from a boulder and slashing the sword at him.

Fang Chen rolled to the side, barely escaping the incoming slash.

-Clang!

The assassin's sword hit the ground.

Fang Chen looked up to see that there was another assassin in the fray who had targeted Mo Yan.

The first assassin recovered but instead of going after Fang Chen once again, the assassins slashed at Mo Yan.

Mo Yan, who was now sandwiched between the two enemies, was unaware of the incoming sword slash!
