The original John planned to sell clothes, shoes, tabacco, perfume and spices in America because he knows that imported goods are expensive in America. 

He cleaned up his 390k and bought everything to capitalize.

Only left 10,000 pound sterling.

"Damn. What a brave kid. If it goes south, all the money..poof...dont worry kid...ill sell the goods for u. We..no..i will be rich. I swear. I am u now. Of course i wanna be rich. By the way, how did u die? U seem healthy, 21 years old."

FYI John 2023 want to know, the original John 1912 had a nightmare and got too scared and died. Thus, the police lawyer from 2023 possessed the 21 year old runaway groom.

If John want to know, in 1912, the exchange rate between UK Pound Sterling to US Dollar is 1 Pound Sterling is to 4.85USD.

So, 390,000 times 4.85 is equals to 1,891,500usd.

Pity. He only have 8,000 pounds now. In US dollars, thats still 38,800usd. 

In 1912, he can buy anything, except love. (Hahahaha. Love can not be bought. Wink wink.)

John goes outside with a plan of going to the warehouse or whatever Titanic called the place it put its cargo.

He wants to find the warehouse or whatever shitty and sweaty place to collect the goods. Ain't no way he will abandon those and not earn millions of dollars.
