Chapter 47: Arrival At The New Home

What is she talking about? Wait, she doesn't even know me?! Did Uncle Ostensio never tell her that I was going to be staying here for 2 years!? My chance at a good first impression may have been shredded into many fine pieces but, I should be able to give a good second impression, right!? You know what they say when something doesn't work. You just have to keep doing it until it does work! It's stupid but, I will follow it!

"As I was saying, nice to meet you. My name is Alex and I will be living with you for the next 2 years."

"Huh? Wait a minute..."

That sounded a bit ominous. What is she going to say now? A few seconds later and, my prediction was correct. I feel obvious hostility coming from in front of me and I am almost certain it is coming from Ray. This is bad. What did I do wrong!?

"Um, is something wrong?-"

"Daddy, why is there someone else here?"

"Oh, right, I forgot to tell you about him."

"You forgot to tell me that someone I don't even know is going to be living in the same house as me for 2 years!"

"I'm sorry! Daddy was very busy worrying about your mother and doing all of his work!"

"I also want mommy to be alright! But, to do this to me when you know how much I don't like talking to strangers..."

What is going on here? Why does she sound so angry all of a sudden? Also, did something happen to my aunt before I got here?

"Um, technically, we are family-"

"Be quiet! We are related but, to me, you are nothing but a stranger! I won't accept anyone else who is going to live here, especially someone like you!"

"But, Ray-"

"Don't call me Ray! Only the people I trust can call me that. You will not talk to me but, if you have to do it, call me Miss Kyra. What did you say your name was again? Oh, right. Call me Miss Kyra and I will call you Mister Alexander, you got it!?"

"Uh, yes, Ma'am!"

"Good. Now, leave me alone!"

I then heard her start running back up the stairs and leave very fast. What was that all about? Does she have major trust issues or something? Also, Ray isn't even her name and is instead a nickname only people she trusts can call her? Well, I guess I can sympathize with her a bit. Actually, I can't really because there is still so much stuff I don't know about.

She is a shining example of what a person's response to me will be like if I act too familiar with them when I just met them. I haven't really thought about the fact that there will be someone who won't accept me. Just saying but, she kind of has a good reason for her actions. Plus, she is a real child, both mentally and physically, unlike me and Luscia.

I spent so much time with Luscia that I thought that every child thought like us and were able to have a civil discussion. Of course, I was stupid and foolish for thinking that way. This might be a problem that I will need to resolve sooner or later as it will be hard to live with someone who clearly hates me for 2 years.

But, I do wonder why she acts that violently to people she doesn't know. Did something happen to her that causes her to harbor such feelings to people who fall in that category, which is basically almost everyone in this city?

"Alex, I am so so sorry about the way my daughter acted. She only lashed out because I didn't tell her about you sooner. If I did then, things might have been different."

"Don't worry, Uncle. It is also partly my fault for tactlessly calling her by a nickname so familiarly when we never met each other before."

"Can I repay you in any way? You can take a bath here and have your lunch."

"Let's see... You can help me by answering any question I might have after I finish eating my lunch."

"Then, that is what I will do. You should get into the bath now so that you can wash your body."

"Alright."

That was how my disastrous entrance into my uncle's house earned the wrath of my cousin, for reasons I will soon be learning about later, after my bath and my lunch as cleaning and food are a much higher priority than answers right now.

"Ah, this is very refreshing~"

"Yup, it really is."

"The bath in this house is so good that it can I consider it as one of the minor reasons why I started working here."

"What? So, let me get this straight, you think that this bath is good enough to be included as one of the reasons you started working here?"

"I do, and I'm tired of pretending it's not."

"Is a reason like that why you are even here?!"

"It's not like it is the only reason! I am came here so that I can serve one of the people I admire the most!"

"No fighting allowed in the bath so, stop and just relax."

"Hmm..."

*Burbling Noises*

Right now, I am in a bath with the knights. Only the male knights are here with me this time. The female guards said that they will take a bath after we are all done. It is pretty nice of them to let us go first even after some of the guards said that they would rather have the females go first.

I guess that it is just the life of being a decent male trying to be a gentleman. We aren't supposed to stay in here for too long as well as lunch is going to be served very soon. But, listening to these guys start talking about random subjects so happily makes me happy as well so, I think I can afford to stay here a bit longer.

That was when my ears were able to catch something from the other side of the door to the bathroom. Since I am the one closest to it, I think I am the only one who is hearing this, albeit only barely.

"Lunch is now served."

"Wow, this looks amazingly delicious already, as always. I will go check on Alex and my guards before this gets cold."

Never mind. I now think that I should be getting out of the bath now so that I can have some delicious, warm food. I stand up and and get a towel and start drying myself quickly and quietly so that no one will notice me.

"Hey, Alex, where are you going? You should relax more in this bath. We just got back from lots of traveling so you should savor this moment."

"No thanks. I have important business to attend to."

I said that as I wrapped the towel around my waist. I then walk out of the door and try to find the place where lunch is being served.

"Uh!"

That was Ray's, no, I mean Kyra's voice just now. Wasn't she trying to actively avoid me? I assumed she would because of the way she talked to me earlier. I should probably get out of here.

"Y-you are n-naked... r-right in f-front of m-me..."

"Hmm?"

I think the towel is covering me just fine. I mean, I guess I am technically naked but, why does that matter right now? Oh right, I can ask her where the dining area is.

"Excuse me, Miss Kyra."

"Hah! Uh, um, what do you want!"

That is a weird response. Why is she acting differently from the way she was earlier?

"I want to know where the dining area is."

"Oh, that. I guess you wouldn't know something like that. You should be able to get there easily but I will tell you where it is. You just have to walk straight from here and turn left. You should reach it soon enough. Also, please ask a servant to give you some clothes now!"

Did she just insult or help me? I heard her start running and push past me.

How am I going to have good relations with her? She really doesn't seem to like me at all and she tried to insult me a few times as well right now. Plus, for some reason, she acted weird around me and started shouting to me about getting some clothes. I don't think a regular angry child would focus on that to insult someone.

I think something else is at play. Oh well, if she wants it as a secret then, I will respect her wishes. I will be able to know about them either way later.
