First lifetime

In her first life, she had the same name as she did right now. Ysabelle.

She was born somewhere in the countryside of Southern Europe, where time passes by like the wind. You would never notice how fast the sun rises and how fast it sets. Life is simple and everyone knows everybody.

Here is also where she first met Gabrielle. He's the boy living in the house beside theirs. She and he were raised together and knew each other ever since they were just learning how to walk.

Ysabelle knew Gabrielle like how she knew herself. They were like the mirror of one another. Just one look at him and she'll know what he's feeling. Whether he's hungry, happy, sad, angry, or even embarrassed. She knows him so much, and he's also the same with her.

So it was no surprise to anyone when at the age of 16, Gabrielle and Ysabelle were promised to one another. It was like the most natural thing to happen. They were supposed to get married at 18, however, a war broke out and Gabrielle had to serve their country as a soldier so they had to halt their marriage after he comes back.

The day when Gabrielle had to leave, Ysabelle cried so hard. She made an amulet for him to wear and remember her by.

She can still remember how Gabrielle caresses her face as he wipes the tears falling from her cheeks.

"I'll be back... I promise.... and when I do, I'll give you the best life a man could ever give," he said as he pulls her into a tight hug. As if engraving her into his arms.

"I'll wait for you. No matter how long, just come back alive and well." Ysabelle replied back. Giving back the same affection that Gabrielle gave.

They stayed like that for a few minutes before the soldier that's going to escort Gabrielle to his post, tapped his shoulder to signal them leaving.

As the carriage leaves, Gabrielle was looking at Ysabelle until he couldn't see her shadow any more. She in return tried her hardest to smile so that her crying face wouldn't be the one that Gabrielle would remember. However, the moment that she was sure that he can't see her anymore, she broke down in tears.

I feel so bad whenever I write scenes like this that are essential to the plot, but very painful to my character. I can't help but imagine how sad this would actually feel in real life. Agghh.
